In the blink of an eye, Maple World descended into chaos.
Try as the Explorers might, nothing could stop the all-consuming flames of war from engulfing everything. At the height of the fighting, Sayram, Lira, Kalix, Draken, and I steeled ourselves for a major battle at *** Stronghold. Once we began, there would be no turning back. Sayram did his best to keep the mood light, but we all knew this fight may be our last.

It wasn't until long after the smoke had finally cleared, that Sayram put his hand on my shoulder and told me the bitter truth. The world stood silent. *** was gone. Half the stronghold had vanished. The casualties were countless. Lira, Kalix, and Draken were missing, with no bodies to confirm our fears.

They'd known what this fight might cost them, but I couldn't reconcile this fact with my feelings. It was all too much. I realized that a single fish had no hope of swimming upstream. When I asked to leave, Sayram sent me on my way on the back of his Griffey, Stormclaw.

It's been a long time since I returned to El Nath. yet, my magic research remains fruitless and the brilliant white drifts have done nothing to ease my heavy heart. All I could do is make symbolic graves for the allies I never got the chance to bury... I wonder if Sayram is safe.

Sayram rode into El Nath on Stormclaw. His skin was hatched with a multitude of scars, but his spirit remained unbroken. He said ***'s weapon, ***, was coming for the decisive battle. With so many Explorers injured or dead, victory seemed unconceivable. I protested his going, knowing full well there was no point in doing so.

Sayram shook his head and asked me to enchant his shield. He planned to face *** alone. In his eyes I saw the steely resolve of a man who would not be defeated. So I cast my best spells, while Stormclaw channeled its spirit into the shield. I also gave him the necklace that had saved my life at *** Stronghold. He thanked me and parted with a promise to return.

Some time later, news of Sayram's victory reached El Nath. I waited and waited, but Sayram did not return. One day as I was toiling away at my experiments, I heard the beating of wings outside. Throwing down my research, I hurried outside to find Stormclaw alone. All I could do was stand there with my arms wrapped around his neck, and my face buried in his plumage.

Stormclaw dropped my necklace into my hands and departed for Minar Forest with Sayram's shield in tow. The war wasn't over yet. I can no longer allow myself to be carried away by the current when he gave his life to protect us all. The river is rapid, but I will swim with all my might nonetheless.
I'll pass my learnings on to Alcaster. Then, I must be going.
