Kaiser is a Nova Warrior released during the MapleStory: Tempest[4] Update.
As the legendary savior of the Nova race who reincarnates across the ages, Kaiser uses the power of the dragons to decimate the battlefield.
Decades ago on Grandis, Kaiser was the protector of the Nova and defended Heliseum from Magnus, his former comrade and an exiled Nova who pledged loyalty to Gerand Darmoor. After sacrificing himself to buy enough time for his people to escape, Kaiser was reincarnated into a young Nova boy named Kyle in present day. With Magnus closing in on Pantheon, Kaiser struggles to repel the Specter army with the help of Angelic Buster, who, unbeknownst to him, is his childhood friend, Tear. After successfully driving Magnus' forces back, Kaiser is sent by the Nova to Maple World in order to find allies against Magnus and Gerand Darmoor.
Story
- Main article: Kaiser/Story
Kaiser - the Guardian of the Nova - was a legendary warrior who reincarnated across the ages. Decades ago, the former Kaiser was betrayed by his old friend, Magnus, who had sacked the Nova capital of Heliseum after pledging loyalty to Gerand Darmoor. In order to buy time for the survivors to escape to the sanctuary city of Pantheon, Kaiser fought Magnus and sacrificed his life to defeat his old comrade, nearly killing Magnus in the process. The Heliseum Council, unable to transport their holy relic - the Outrigger - out of the capital, instead transferred its power into four sacred stones, which were used to create a Protective Shield around Pantheon, blocking Magnus and his Specters from entering.
Decades after the end of the Flora Civil War and the fall of Heliseum, the Nova remained safe in the sanctuary city of Pantheon, protected by the four sacred stones that formed the Protective Shield. Two children named Kyle and Velderoth became friends with a girl named Tear, who had been shunned by the Nova for having been born without magic or a tail. Together, they became the Heliseum Force and trained every day in order to become strong enough to take back their capital. One day, the three of them found Nefarious Priests attempting to steal the eastern sacred stone. While Velderoth went to get help, Tear grabbed the stone and fell unconscious upon touching it. As the priests attempted to kill her, Kyle awakened as the next Kaiser and used his powers to defeat them, falling unconscious soon after. The pair were brought to the infirmary, where Tear learned that the stone had been fused to her arm as a bracelet, thereby weakening the Protective Shield without the stone to lend its power.
After Kyle woke up and learned about his destiny as Kaiser, he was informed by Fenelle the high priestess and Cartalion the knight captain that, with Gerand Darmoor having awakened as the Transcendent of Life, the Nova would need to ally with other Transcendents in order to win the war. Kaiser began training to master his new powers, though Velderoth slowly began growing jealous of Kaiser, whose newfound abilities had allowed him to grow even stronger than Velderoth. Soon after, both Kaiser and Angelic Buster - who, unbeknownst to Kaiser, was actually Tear using the power of the relic - realized that the Nefarious Priests were attempting to steal the other three sacred stones. Though they attempted to fight off the priests, they were unable to stop the priests from taking the western sacred stone. With two of the stones gone, the Protective Shield was weakened, allowing Magnus to send in his Specter army.
While the Nova mounted their defenses, Angelic Buster used her connection to the sacred stones in order to find the stolen stone, which she brought back to Fenelle and Cartalion. While the Protective Shield recharged, the Nova desperately attempted to hold off the invading Specters. Eventually, the shield came back on, instantly vaporizing all the Specters within its boundary. Kaiser then proposed the idea of deliberately turning off the shield in order to lure the Specters back in. After carrying out his plan, the Nova restored the shield, wiping out the entire Specter army at once.
However, Magnus arrived on the scene and easily defeated Kaiser, Angelic Buster, and Velderoth at once before he was chased away by the Nova army. Bitter and resentful of Kaiser and the power that he had supposedly been handed out, Velderoth decided to leave Pantheon and join Magnus, believing that Magnus could give him the power to match Kaiser. With the entire Specter army destroyed and Magnus too prideful to ask Darmoor for reinforcements, the Heliseum Council believed that now was the optimal time to launch a counterattack on Tyrant's Castle in order to take back their capital. In order to find powerful allies, the Council authorized Kaiser and Angelic Buster to use the Interdimensional Portal to explore the other. Kaiser and Angelic Buster then crossed through dimensions and arrived in Maple World. Around this time, the power of time that the Black Mage had stolen from Rhinne began leaking from the seal, allowing the Interdimensional Portal on Maple World to reappear, which led to Grandis.
Kaiser's activities on Maple World drew the attention of the Maple Alliance, whom he began investigating as possible allies. With the approval of the Nova, Kaiser requested the Alliance for their assistance in the operation to retake Heliseum, for which the Alliance decided to send a small team of elite soldiers in order to reinforce the Nova, who crossed over to Grandis through the Interdimensional Portal. In order to push through, the Nova utilized an ancient Nova superweapon called the Blue Dragon Cannon, which was launched by Kaiser himself. The Nova soon learned that Velderoth had joined Magnus as a Guardian of Heliseum in order to become stronger than Kaiser. Though Velderoth attempted to challenge Kaiser in battle, Kaiser was able to defeat him, though he was deeply disturbed about the fall of his former friend. Eventually, the Nova were able to break into the city and launched their final assault on Tyrant's Castle, where they defeated the three Guardians of Heliseum. Though Victor and Treglow were both killed, Velderoth managed to escape in the battle.
The Alliance then discovered Magnus, who, for decades, had been attempting to steal the power of the Outrigger, though the Ancient Gods of the Nova - sensing that Magnus had betrayed his people - continued rejecting his attempts. Furious, Magnus resolved to kill every single Nova in the world if it was required to finally claim the power. After being defeated, a mysterious vortex pulled in both Magnus and the Outrigger, causing them to disappear. Magnus also lost his cursed Kaiserium, which was reclaimed and restored by Kaiser. Following Magnus' defeat, the Nova reclaimed Heliseum and officially joined the Maple Alliance.
Soon after, the Alliance discovered the Black Mage's laboratory beneath Magatia and recovered several important writings, which was given to Kaiser. Kaiser read that the Black Mage had expelled the light within himself, and that he had stolen Rhinne's powers, just as Darmoor had stolen Chronica's. After conferring with Fenelle, the Nova noted that several Interdimensional Portals had appeared on Grandis when Darmoor had taken Chronica's powers, and that the single portal on Maple World had disappeared when the power of time had been sealed away with the Black Mage, reappearing as the seal had begun to weaken critically, allowing the power of time to seep back into the world. With the threat to Maple World and Grandis growing stronger, Kaiser resolved to grow even more powerful and successfully attained the rank of Grand Kaiser, receiving the blessings of the former Kaiser as a result.

Trivia
- The former Kaiser's weapon is named Kaisereum. The naming is likely a portmanteau of Kaiser and Heliseum.
- Kaiser's name translates to Emperor in German. It was also the unofficial title of the Holy Roman / German emperor outside Germany.
- In JMS, CMS, and GMS, rather than having one set of swords for the Tempest Blades skill, they appear as the same as the player character's equipped weapon.
- Kaiser (Kyle) has a slight crush on Tear, even though he acts as an older brother to her.
