Grandis is the second major dimension introduced in MapleStory, existing alongside Maple World and Tynerum. The Interdimensional Portal at Great Temple Interior in Pantheon leads to Maple World, while the Maple Guide leads to Crimsonheart Castle in Tynerum. While Grandis consists of various lands, islands, and moons, the name 'Grandis' refers to the large continent that constitutes most of the planet, similar to Ossyria in Maple World. In addition to the planet, Grandis also consists of various satellites / moons, of which only one - Verdel - has a known name.
Although Grandis is home to many different species, the three major races are the Flora, the Nova, and the Anima. Centuries ago, the Flora underwent a schism, with the High Flora reigning over Grandis and the Verdant Flora being exiled and stripped of their magic. Currently, the High Flora are ruled by Gerand Darmoor, the God-King of the High Flora and Grandis' Transcendent of Life. Believing themselves superior to all other races, the High Flora have begun a war of genocide against the other races of Grandis, with the Anima having gone into hiding and the Nova remaining the only race strong enough to stand up to them.
Grandis is composed of three regions: Eastern Grandis, which is the starting area for most Grandis classes (as well as Shade) during their Level 1 - 30 storyline before leaving for Maple World; Central Grandis, which consists of Savage Terminal, the unrevealed High Flora nation, and several inaccessible locations found in Grandis lore; and Western Grandis, which is the setting for the next major arc in the Adversary storyline beginning at Level 260, requiring Sacred Power to deal damage to monsters.

Towns / Regions
Eastern Grandis
- Main article: Eastern Grandis
Eastern Grandis serves as the starting area for all Grandis classes (as well as Shade), except for Cadena, Illium, and Kain. The moon of Verdel, despite being located in the Western Front within the story, is also part of Eastern Grandis, remaining a separate area accessible via the Eastern Grandis UI. Prior to the NEXT Update, most regions in Eastern Grandis were originally various satellites / moons (with the exception of Erimos), all of which were incorporated as towns on the continent following the Grandis map reorganization.
Central Grandis
- Main article: Central Grandis
Central Grandis is the stronghold of the High Flora nation, as well as several other remote regions of Grandis, such as Savage Terminal, which is the starting area for Cadena, Illium, and Kain. Although not accessible themselves, several regions found in various Grandis-based storylines, such as the Grand Athenaeum and Epic Dungeons, can be seen on the Central Grandis UI as well. Prior to the NEXT Update, Savage Terminal was originally a satellite / moon, while the inaccessible regions of Grandis were not depicted in the world map.
Western Grandis
- Main article: Western Grandis
Western Grandis is home to many different races and nations, and is suitable for players Level 260 and above who have completed their Sixth Job Advancement (though the Job Advancement is not mandatory). Following the death of the Black Mage, the absence of Transcendents has resulted in Maple World and Grandis converging into one, resulting in the formation of volatile Sol Erda and the reawakening of the Ancient Gods. Due to the Sacred Power and Sol Erda present in this region as a result of the Ancient Gods' power, a new strength is required for Maplers to defeat the stronger monsters found here. Prior to the NEXT Update, Western Grandis was originally known as Continental Grandis, with the regions of Western Grandis (as well as Erimos) being located on the planet Grandis, while all other regions were individual satellites / moons that orbited the planet.
Inaccessible Areas
Northern Grandis
Presumed to be a subregion of Central Grandis, Northern Grandis was first mentioned in Ren's storyline, in which it was stated to be the homeland of the Vharga race before they fled south to flee the High Flora. According to NPC dialogue from Seya, a member of the Shadowdealers who can be interacted with at the Erimos docks, the northern part of Grandis is reportedly much cooler. Because of this, it is speculated that the snowy mountain territory of the High Flora, led by the Apostle Reina, may be located in Northern Grandis.
Southern Grandis
Presumed to be a subregion of Central Grandis, Southern Grandis was first mentioned in Ren's storyline, in which it was stated that the Vharga race fled to Southern Grandis after fleeing the High Flora invasion. It is speculated that many of the regions in Central Grandis, such as Savage Terminal, are already part of Southern Grandis, and that a proper subdivision of Central Grandis will be made in future content.
Aboris
Aboris is the capital of the High Flora nation, which was originally the capital of the Verdant Flora before it was seized by the High Flora during the Flora Civil War. Aboris is the central headquarters for Gerand Darmoor and his Apostles, and while not directly accessible, the Morning Star Banquet event took place in Gerand Darmoor's imperial villa in Aboris, in which the player and the Primacy infiltrated the event to spy on the Apostles. It is largely believed that Aboris will be the final area in the Grandis storyline, similar to Tenebris.
Unnamed High Flora Snowy Mountain Territory
The snowy mountains are one of the six High Flora territories, led by Reina, a God of the High Flora. Although the name of this territory is unknown, it is located in Central Grandis, and presumably towards the cold, northern part. This territory was originally ruled by a beloved lord, who, despite being an honorable ruler, was unable to move their people out of the cold, leaving many to perish from the harsh environment. Eventually, this lord was killed in a ritual Syaman duel by Reina, their blood relative, who took their position and caste rank as God. Following this, Reina and her forces joined the High Flora Central Army in order to conquer a better land for her people.
Unnamed Forest Region
An unnamed forest region exists in Eastern Grandis, which was once ruled ages ago by an Ancient God who had the ability to create eternal flames. This area was first mentioned during the Night of Phantasms event during a sequence that teased several future Grandis plot points. Because of this, it is speculated that this region will be introduced in a future update. Given that Eastern Grandis is the starting area for most Grandis classes, it is also believed that this region will be the starting area for a new class.
Dovenghar
Dovenghar is a region in Grandis which was once under the command of a High Flora officer. This officer was responsible for attacking the Vharga homeland in Northern Grandis until he was killed by Ren in Vallora as he attempted to pursue her and the Vharga survivors she was escorting. Although it is unknown where Dovenghar is located, it is presumed to be in Northern Grandis, given that Dovenghar's leader had attacked the Vharga in the region.
Evernia and the Chronica Sanctuary
Evernia is a remote village located near the Arcus desert, in the valley of a mountain range that runs from Western Grandis to Eastern Grandis. Although the harsh terrain makes the mountain range uninhabitable, Evernia was built at the site which once held the Chronica Sanctuary, the sanctum of Chronica, Grandis's Transcendent of Time. Following the Flora Civil War, Gerand Darmoor stole the power of time from Chronica and imprisoned both the Transcendent and their sanctum in a prison dimension, with the descendants of the sanctum's priests eventually building Evernia in the valley. Since then, the villagers would hold the Twilight Eve Festival every ten years, praying for the lost Transcendent's second coming. Although neither Evernia nor the Chronica Sanctuary are directly accessible, the Twilight Eve Festival event took place in Evernia, where the Adversary and the Maple Alliance helped the townspeople of Evernia conduct the ritual to summon Chronica. Additionally, while the Chronica Sanctuary is also inaccessible, the prison dimension in which it is located was seen in a cutscene during the Twilight Eve Festival event.
Temple of Light
The Temple of Light, also known as the Radiant Temple in GMS, is the sanctum of Grandis's Transcendent of Light. This temple is home to the Executors, a minor race of Grandis who lost their names and forms in service to the Transcendent of Light. This sanctum was once home to Aeona, the Transcendent of Light, before she fled Grandis and escaped to Maple World. Although this area is inaccessible, a replica of the Temple of Light was created through the power of Mirror World in Esfera, where the Adversary faced Will in an attempt to stop the Black Mage from taking Aeona's powers.
Kain's Homeworld
Kain's homeworld is an unknown area in Grandis. Although little is known about it, it is said to be extremely remote and was formerly home to a village of Black Nova descendants before they were wiped out by the Apostle Ypsilon. While it remains unknown whether this location is located on the continent or a satellite / moon, it is currently completely inaccessible, with Kain only visiting his old home during a cutscene in his class storyline.
Iker's Homeworld
Iker's homeworld is an unknown moon / satellite that orbits Grandis. During the Extradimensional Visitors event, Kelly points out one of the moons of Grandis in a photo of the Primacy and tells the Adversary that Iker always looks up at the sky, and that she believes that he constantly looks at his homeworld.
Kunlun
Kunlun is a mountain region where the elders of Grandis hid the hanging scroll that led to Shangri-La before sealing Kunlun behind a barrier to prevent access to the realm of the sages. Kunlun is extremely similar in appearance to Odium, which appears to be a mechanical version of the mountainside, making it likely that Kunlun may have served as both the inspiration for and the location where Odium was originally constructed. Although this area is inaccessible, a replica of Kunlun is accessible in the Epic Dungeon: Nightmare Paradise, in which Baekyeon attempts to escape a nightmarish rendition of Kunlun within his own mind.
Trivia
- The term "Grandis" is shared with Grandis Gracia of Dungeon Fighter Online, which is a game developed and published by Neople, a South Korean subsidiary of Nexon.
- During the ARK Update, it was revealed in Ark's storyline that Grandis had thirteen moons / satellites during an Apostle meeting, in which the Apostles stated: "For the true world under the thirteen stars!" as their rallying cry. After the NEXT Update, however, this line was changed to: "For the true world under Grandis!" after the Grandis map changes deleted nearly all the existing moons / satellites and instead moved them to the continent of Grandis. Although Grandis still has multiple moons, the precise number of moons is no longer known.
