The Resistance is a group of rebel forces from Edelstein going against the Black Wings. Their base is located under the city and is accessible via a pipe.

Long ago, the Resistance hoped to join forces with the Cygnus Knights in order to drive out the Black Wings. However, when the Knights never showed up, the Resistance suffered a crushing defeat, with the survivors going underground. With a strong hatred for the Cygnus Knights for their betrayal, the Resistance vowed to retake their city themselves. While playing hide-and-seek with their friends, a young citizen of Edelstein accidentally stumbled across Gelimer's laboratory, where they discovered a girl named Vita being used as a test subject. After rescuing her, the citizen and Vita were rescued from the Black Wings by the Resistance. Inspired by their bravery, the citizen decides to join the Resistance and help liberate Edelstein. Along the way, however, they learn a hidden truth about Vita, culminating in a great tragedy that paves the way for a reluctant reconciliation with the Cygnus Knights.

Citizen

The Citizen is the Beginner class for the Resistance. The Citizen must train and complete missions to become an official member of the Resistance. The Resistance was formed in an underground base in Edelstein, a town occupied by the Black Wings. For now, the Resistance follows the orders of the Black Wings , but below the facade of good will, revenge burns, waiting to be unleashed on the Black Wings when the time is right. As a Citizen, you will learn of the Resistance through various episodes that take place at Behind the Mine, Edelstein, Suspicious Laboratory, and other locations. At level 10, you can a full-fledged member of the Resistance by talking to Headmaster Ferdi, and start down the path as a Battle Mage, Wild Hunter, Blaster or Mechanic to drive the Black Wings from Edelstein!

The Demon

The Demon is a unique Resistance class created separately from the four regular Resistance classes. The Demon is split between two paths: Demon Slayer and Demon Avenger. After facing the Black Mage centuries ago, the Demon awakens in Edelstein, where the Black Wings have drained his power away while harvesting energy for their experiments. After being rescued by the Resistance, the Demon - learning that they both share a common enemy - joins their ranks in order to get his revenge upon the Black Mage.

Xenon

Main article: Xenon

Xenon is a unique Resistance class created separately from the four regular Resistance classes. Kidnapped as a child by Gelimer many years ago, Xenon was turned into a cyborg and designed to be Gelimer's ultimate weapon. After encountering the Resistance and awakening his vestigial memories, Xenon betrays his creator and joins the Resistance in search of his past.

Story

Main article: Resistance/Story

A young citizen of Edelstein stumbled across Gelimer's laboratory in the Verne Mine while playing hide-and-seek with their friends. Inside, they encountered several children kept inside tanks, which Gelimer was experimenting upon. One of these children, Vita, urged the citizen to escape before Gelimer returned. Unwilling to leave her behind, the citizen saved Vita and helped her escape the laboratory, though they were soon caught by the Black Wings. Just then, a Resistance agent codenamed J saved the pair and brought them back to Edelstein, where he took Vita back to the Secret Plaza.

Inspired by J's bravery, the citizen decided to become a Resistance member and was soon recognized by the Resistance leaders, who invited them to the Secret Plaza. After joining their ranks, the Resistance member began undertaking missions to help the people of Edelstein. During this time, they regularly visited Vita, who had been taken in by the Resistance under their protection. Happy to have a place where she belonged, Vita decided to use her skills to help the Resistance however she could. Using what she had observed in the laboratory, Vita began creating medicine for the Resistance to make them stronger, which Claudine agreed to distribute.

Soon after, however, the Resistance member was contacted by J, who told them that after analyzing the medicine, he had learned that it was actually poison that, while initially causing positive effects, would drain away the user's life force after they developed a dependency on it. Though Claudine imprisoned Vita for her actions, both she and the Resistance member believed that Vita's actions made no sense, and that there must be something more to it, especially because Vita seemed genuinely shocked that her medicine had been poison. In order to find a cure for the medicine, Claudine asked the Resistance member to obtain rare Feather Plants from the Dark Lord in Kerning City. However, the Dark Lord only had half the amount that the Resistance needed, though he told them that Ereve had stashes of Feather Plants.

The Resistance member reported the news back to Claudine, who refused to beg the Cygnus Knights for help, no matter what, as the Resistance still held a grudge towards the Cygnus Knights for breaking their promise to help them years ago. Soon after, Eckhart gave the Resistance member the remainder of the Feather Plants as a gesture of goodwill, though Claudine would not accept the gift and decided to return them. Around this time, Gelimer activated Vita's brainwashing and had her break free from the Resistance's prison. The Resistance member rushed to the Verne Mine in order to save their friend against Claudine's warning that it would likely be a trap.

At Vita's prison, the Resistance member learned that Vita had been brainwashed by Gelimer, which was the reason why she had been creating poisonous medicine for the Resistance. Despite the Resistance member's attempts, Vita was killed by Gelimer, who had rigged her cage to explode. Because of this, Claudine began regretting her stubbornness in refusing the Cygnus Knights' earlier attempts at helping the Resistance. The Resistance began investigating Gelimer and the purpose of his experiments, which led them to learn that Orchid was the founder of the Black Wings. With the revelation that the Black Wings were being led by a Commander of the Black Mage, the Resistance came to realize that their fight against the Black Wings and the Black Mage was one and the same. Because of the tragedy which had befallen Vita, the Resistance reluctantly decided to join forces with the Cygnus Knights for the greater good of Maple World.
