“For countless years, the spirit of the Zakum Tree lay dormant and formless. But as it absorbed the energies of the lava region's inhabitants, it slowly began to take shape.
The nearby settlement was brimming with dark energy born of the residents' selfish desires. Amid the darkness, flames, and scorching heat, that dark energy fueled Zakum's growth and twisted its spirit.
Zakum may have started as nothing more than a wretched tree, but the energy it absorbed over centuries gave it power that surpassed that of the humans. Eventually, it used that power to manipulate the inhabitants of the lava region into crafting stone statues it could inhabit, and Zakum rules over them to this very day.”

Zakum is a malevolent spirit that inhabits a statue in the mines of El Nath.
Story
Deep in the mines of El Nath, there was a spirit named Zakum who was sealed in a tree. A mining town that once existed nearby eventually discovered this tree. At the time, Zakum was a peaceful spirit who had no enemies, but the greed of the miners corrupted it. As the corruption ran deeper, Zakum grew smarter and soon gained the power to control the town's populace. It forced them to build an enormous statue in tribute, after which it possessed the statue and eventually killed everyone in the town. Around the mine, all the trees in the forest began to wither under Zakum's dark influence, which also caused the zombies of the dead townspeople to appear, who began to roam the Forest of Dead Trees.
There was evidence found in the Monster Park that Spiegelmann may have had a hand in building it, which he hotly denies, even to the point of attempting to bribe someone who finds the photo into keeping quiet.
In Yum Yum Island, Kumpiders are fusions of Zakum and spiders, formed in an experiment that involves reusing the Erda (life energy) of Maple World's strongest creatures to create new lifeforms.
Battle Overview
One of the first major bosses in the game, Zakum proves to be quite powerful by having an array of attacks and summons to keep players off balance. It is advised to have many healing potions prepared before entering the boss's chamber. Zakum can be defeated once a day for Easy/Normal (shared), and once a week for Chaos.
An Eye of Fire is used to summon Zakum (Eye of Fire Chunk for Easy mode). There is a 10-second Potion Cooldown (none for Easy mode) and an individual death counter of 5 (50 for Easy mode). Once players use up all their lives, they will remain dead until either Zakum is defeated or until all players in the map are out of lives. While the arms are part of the battle, eliminating them is not mandatory to fight the body; instead, players can fight the body and the arms simultaneously for the first 80% of the battle, after which the arms will be destroyed automatically and players will have to finish off the body. However, players can defeat the arms normally, and destroying them will cause Zakum to use a different attack pattern until the last 20% of the battle. In Chaos mode, each arm has a separate 30-second regeneration timer after which they will reappear, unless all 8 arms are destroyed before any arms regenerate.
During the armed phase of the battle, the arms will fly and slam into the ground, indicated by signals on the ground, and damage any players in those spots, dealing 50% HP damage in Easy mode, 90% HP damage in Normal mode, and 100% HP damage in Chaos mode. Occasionally, three platforms will appear on each side of the map, and the ground will be cast on fire, dealing 25% HP damage to any players standing on the bottom of the map. During this phase, two arms will clap together and fire a laser that hits the two platforms adjacent to those arms, indicated by the platforms flashing, and dealing 100% HP damage to any players standing on those platforms. These two phases will alternate throughout the battle until Zakum has 20% HP remaining.
If players defeat all the arms before the last 20% of the battle, Zakum will periodically use a charge-up attack, which begins with summoning 2 Boogies, 2 Pucos, 2 Puncos, 2 Cuzcos, and 2 Opachus; the latter will only appear in Normal and Chaos mode, and will each be able to split into 2 Chaos Pachus in Chaos mode. During the charge-up attack, Zakum will remain stagnant for 30 seconds and unleash an explosion that deals 99% HP damage to players. Zakum will also be able to cast Weapon Cancel during this phase, rendering non-magic attacks ineffective. In Chaos mode, the arms will randomly regenerate throughout the battle at the start of the charge-up attack and will now be able to grab and hold players if two or more people are fighting Chaos Zakum at once; players being held will be killed, but damaging the arm will release the player. This attack pattern will repeat until Zakum has 20% HP remaining.
Once Zakum is on its last 20% HP, any remaining arms will disappear automatically and players will be left fighting the main body. During this phase, rocks will fall from the ceiling, slowing any players and preventing them from using movement skills, such as Flash Jump or Teleport. Zakum's main attack involves leaping into the air and pounding the ground, which can be avoided by hiding under a green cube that drops from the ceiling. Zakum will also burrow into the ground and resurface close to the player, as well as cast Magic Cancel, rendering itself immune to magic attacks.
Zakum's arms do not give EXP once slain, regardless of difficulty. Easy Zakum's main body will grant 130,000 EXP, which is affected by EXP boosts. Normal Zakum will grant 4,750,740 EXP upon clearing, which is not affected by any EXP boosts. Chaos Zakum will not grant any EXP.
