FriendStory is the first spin-off in MapleStory, featuring a storyline involving a portal from Maple World to the real world, where they meet real-life counterparts of various MapleStory characters and NPCs. FriendStory takes place in Friends World, which is also the setting for several other storylines, such as Kinesis and Act 3 of the Heroes of Maple blockbuster.

Friends World was separated by a dimensional barrier from Maple World until the actions of the White Mage of Friends World unlocked the door between dimensions, allowing one of Grendel the Really Old's students, Elwin, to inadvertently break through.

After completing Episode 6, the Old Shinsoo International School Building dungeon can be done 10 times a day in order to get  Hugh Head's Silver Needles and upgrade the  Shinsoo School Badge.

A disciple of Grendel the Really Old named Elwin accidentally used his barrier magic to break a hole between Maple World and a parallel world within the same dimension called Friends World. From the other side, a transfer student from Shinsoo International School was brought over to Maple World. As the student wanted to explore Maple World, Elwin called a traveler from Maple World to pose as the transfer student until they were ready to return. At Shinsoo International School, the traveler learned that many people from Maple World and Grandis had counterparts in Friends World that led completely different, yet similar lives. They discovered that Cygnus was the heiress to Shinsoo Corporation, and that her family had given her permission to manage the school, despite her young age. They also learned that Neinheart and the Chief Knights were students, while several Commanders were employees of the school.

Grendel quickly learned what Elwin had done and revealed that the magicians of Maple World had known about the parallel world for some time, though they had chosen not to open a portal there, in fear of what would happen. He explained that because of Elwin's actions, the magic of Maple World was beginning to seep into Friends World, along with dark energy that was creating evil monsters. To keep Friends World safe, the traveler began fighting dark creatures called Motes, as well as powerful Troublemakers born from negative emotions. With the help of Elwin and his sister, Lily, the traveler began fighting the creatures, while befriending the people of Shinsoo International School.

Eventually, a mysterious man who appeared identical to the White Mage confronted the traveler and revealed that he had been studying them and their powers, as well as the world that they came from. He revealed that portals between their worlds could only be made through a simultaneous effort on both ends, and that the only reason why Elwin had been able to open a portal was because he himself had been opening on on the other side. After the White Mage disappeared, the traveler returned back to Friends World, where Grendel decided that the Magician Association would begin protecting the other world, as he feared that the shared elements between their worlds meant that Friends World would soon face a danger just as grave as the Black Mage.
