Cadena is a Nova Thief released during the MapleStory: Nova[8] Update.

Decades ago, Magnus sacked the Nova capital city of Heliseum, leaving the princess of the Nova as the only surviving member of the royal family. After being rescued by the Nova General, the princess was brought to the Shadowdealers, a black market trade group, who treated her with a medicine that put her in a coma for many years. Awakening in the present, the princess chose to reinvent herself and took on the new name of Cadena. Cutting off her Nova features, which got in the way of her chains, Cadena now seeks to climb the ranks of the Shadowdealers while escaping the trauma of her past. When the evil Mr. Hazard seeks to seize control of her branch and destroy their home, Cadena finds herself on a mission to stop him, leading to a reunion with Magnus. After realizing the wide gap between her strength and Magnus', Cadena travels to Maple World in order to train and become strong enough to take her revenge on the people who destroyed her life.

Story

Main article: Cadena/Story

During the fall of Heliseum, the Nova princess was rescued by the Nova General and brought to Gen, the leader of the Savage Terminal branch of the Shadowdealers, a black market trade organization. Gen treated the princess' injuries with a potent Shadowdealer medicine, but the side-effect of the medicine had caused her to fall into a coma for many decades. After she awoke, the princess chose to reinvent herself in an attempt to escape the trauma of her past. She gave herself the new name of Cadena and used chains as her new weapon. As the chains got in the way of her Nova features, she cut off her horns, tail, and wings and used the pain as a reminder of her commitment to never be helpless again.

Despite only having been a member for a short time, Cadena quickly proved herself as one of the most skilled Shadowdealers and was soon assigned missions to undertake alone, often with the help of Coney, the branch's subject matter expert. During this time, Mr. Hazard - the second-in-command of the entire Shadowdealer organization - arrived on Savage Terminal and seized control of Gen's branch. In resistance, Cadena and Coney joined with Gen in order to take back their branch. Cadena infiltrated Mr. Hazard's base and discovered a number of chemical reagents being used on animal test subjects, as well as logs regarding an upcoming surreptitious trade. Cadena disguised herself and intercepted the shipment that was being delivered to Hazard's cronies by a robot from the Angler Company - a fearsome arms-dealer company known for its cruelty and powerful weapons.

After stealing the shipment, Cadena brought it back to Gen and Coney, who learned that the Angler Company had delivered schematics for a bioweapon called the Heliogene Device. Coney explained that the reagent experiments on animals was likely to harvest bioenergy to power the weapon, which Gen realized was likely because Hazard intended to sell the weapon to the High Flora. Cadena managed to take all the parts that Hazard needed to complete the weapon before his cronies could obtain them, but she soon learned that the last component was a living person, for which Hazard had used several of Gen's clients.

Cadena then faced Hazard in his hideout and began to fight him. During the battle, Hazard grew several times larger, with his arms having Specter markings on them. Though Cadena managed to defeat him, Hazard unleashed toxic gas in order to paralyze her, causing her crest of the Nova royal family to fall out of her pocket. Hazard attempted to blackmail Cadena with the knowledge, though she soundly defeated him after he learned her secret. Following Hazard's defeat, Gen regained control over the Savage Terminal branch and handed Hazard over to the Shadowdealer High Council. After inheriting Hazard's old contracts, Gen sent Cadena on a trade mission with one of Hazard's contacts. When Cadena arrived at the trade location, however, she was shocked to find Magnus.

Recognizing him as the man who attacked Heliseum and destroyed her life, Cadena attempted to fight him, though she was quickly defeated before Gen saved her. Realizing that she was still too weak, Cadena decided to leave Savage Terminal with the help of Heliseum's Shadowdealer branch and traveled to Maple World in order to train and grow stronger. While training, Cadena returned to Grandis in order to help the Nova retake Heliseum from Magnus. In order to push through, the Nova utilized an ancient Nova superweapon called the Blue Dragon Cannon, with Cadena restoring the faded schematics with the help of the Shadowdealers. With the weapon complete, Cadena made several modifications to the original design and created the Apocalypse Cannon, which had been enhanced with Shadowdealer technology for her own personal use. Following Magnus' defeat, the Nova reclaimed Heliseum and officially joined the Maple Alliance, though Cadena still found no closure to the pain of losing her family. Because of this, Cadena renewed her commitment to rejecting her old title and birthright, choosing to instead move forward with her new life as Cadena of the Shadowdealers.
