A sanctuary that fell to ruin untold years ago, now slowly returning to life as the divine power of the once-dormant gods awakens. Long considered the grave of the ancient gods, the city now seems to be holding its breath, waiting to see if the Adversary of a new age can reclaim its lost glory.

― In-game description for Tallahart

Grave of the Gods Tallahart is an area in Western Grandis and the seventh major area in the main Grandis storyline. After the battle in Carcion, the Alliance follows Seren's message to meet the Primacy at "the place where the world starts again", where they discover the ruins of Tallahart, an ancient sanctuary where the Ancient War was said to have begun. With the help of a mysterious girl named Luce, who seeks the "divine treasure" within, the Adversary must join forces with the Primacy against the Apostle Baldrix, who leads the Knights of the Einherjar to claim the power of the dormant gods sealed within the city.

This region can be accessed on foot via the Arcus Gate in Hotel Arcus 2nd Floor. It is divided into three sections: Silent Ashlands, Fate-Fields, and Phantasmal Night Sanctum, with each section being unlocked as you progress through the questline. Each section requires a certain amount of Sacred Power / Authentic Force to deal normal damage to the monsters here, with Silent Ashlands requiring 630, Fate-Fields requiring 660, and Phantasmal Night Sanctum requiring 700. The Major Boss Baldrix can be fought here, and serves as the final boss for this area.

Completing the questline will reward the Medal  Destiny's Adversary and the  Grand Sacred Symbol: Tallahart. In addition, Daily Quests are unlocked, which grant additional Grand Sacred Symbols that can be used to upgrade your main symbol, as well as access to the Baldrix Boss Battle and several side quests that expand the lore about Tallahart.

Following the battle at Carcion, the Adversary, Lily, and Elwin were dispatched by Edea to investigate a strange dimensional crack which she believed had something to do with the High Flora. The group was sucked into the dimension, where they came across its creator - a toad named Gob - as well as a girl named Kelly, whom the Adversary recognized as Rusty's friend from Hotel Arcus. They learned that Gob - nicknamed the Hand of God - was an Ancient God and an old friend of Archelon who had created his robot body. They discovered that Gob was hiding from Gerand Darmoor in the pocket dimension, which had been created inside Gob's dimensional toad Tirnog, and that Kelly and her allies were using it as their hideout. As the dimensional machine sustaining it was miscalibrated from the convergence of Maple World and Grandis, and damaged from an Apostle's recent attack, the Adversary agreed to help repair the machine. While working with Gob, the Adversary learned that Kelly's allies were the Primacy - a militia which had been formed to liberate Grandis from Darmoor and the High Flora. However, they learned that the Primacy were mistrustful of the Alliance, and that Kelly's team - the sniper Ailene, the information analyst Khafdi, and Captain Iker - were keeping their distance and watching the Adversary from afar.

Soon after, Gob offered to analyze the Adversary and noted that their body was in good condition, adding that they would have been a great threat to him during the Ancient War. He revealed that he had created the pocket dimension inside Tirnog to hide during the Ancient War, as he had been weak and easily dispatchable at the hands of the Adversaries. He explained that ages later, he had made a fatal mistake by leaving his hideout to return Archelon's screw to a young Rusty in preparation for Archelon's awakening, which was when Darmoor had attacked him and stolen much of his power. As he needed protection from Darmoor, and since he hadn't trusted the Alliance when they had a godslayer as their chief weapon, he had sought out the Primacy and made a deal to give them his hideout in exchange for their protection, despite how unruly and wild they were. Gob then analyzed the World Heart and noted that its power was in stable condition. He revealed that the power of the Ancient Gods could not be used safely by anyone who wasn't a god - with the exception of the Transcendents - though he added that since the Adversary was a Vessel, they were stronger than most mortals. Nevertheless, he advised them to remain cautious, lest the power overwhelm and consume them.

While continuing with repairs, the Adversary met with Kelly and learned that an Apostle of Darmoor engulfed in blue flames and riding on horseback with a large flaming axe had ambushed the Primacy during one of their guerilla raids on a remote Flora outpost. Though the Primacy had retreated, the Apostle had used his overwhelming magic to pursue them by creating a portal into Gob's dimension, resulting in heavy casualties. Because of this, Kelly asked the Adversary to help her with making new upgrades for her team to boost their morale. The Adversary spoke with the Primacy and learned about what kinds of upgrades that they wanted, during which they also learned that an information leak was the likely reason for why the Apostle had known about the Primacy's plans. However, they were unable to gain the full trust of the Primacy, with Gob also stating that the Adversary's plan to take the power of the Ancient Gods came in conflict with the Primacy's goals. Eventually, the repairs on the dimensional machine were complete, with Gob thanking the Alliance for their help. At the same time, the Primacy began setting out on its next mission towards the Grave of the Gods, with Captain Iker noting that perhaps their paths may cross once again in the not-so-distant future, hinting at the possibility of an alliance.

Tallahart

Neinheart summoned the Adversary to Ereve, where Hawkeye reported that with Havoc having revealed himself in Carcion, his original goal to track down Havoc's location after the battle of Cernium had shifted to him tracking down the Apostles' movements. He reported that the Apostles had conducted raids to take the power of the Ancient Gods from many areas across Grandis, though the High Flora army had remained stationary in a wasteland near the Arcus desert, at the center of the continent that brushed the border of the High Flora nation. Believing that the Flora army was investigating something in the region, Neinheart sent Hawkeye to gather information with the Seekers in Hotel Arcus while sending the Adversary to meet with Carlisle about Seren's lead. In Cernium, Carlisle told the Adversary that his research about “the place where the world starts again” had pointed him to the legendary city of Tallahart, the Grave of the Gods, where the Ancient War was said to have begun, and where the gods of Tallahart had met their end, with the city being destroyed overnight. As the Adversary reported back to Neinheart on their findings, a mysterious girl named Luce watched the Adversary from afar and resolved to follow them and enlist their aid.

The Adversary then met with Hawkeye at Hotel Arcus, where they spoke with Archelon about Tallahart. They learned that Tallahart was where a supreme Ancient God had ruled over the other gods, with mortals eventually revering them and beginning the practice of worshiping them as gods. After learning that the ruins of Tallahart were in the same wasteland region that the High Flora were investigating, Neinheart approved a small investigation mission to the ruins. Immediately upon arriving, however, the World Heart began reacting to the dormant power of the gods, causing a powerful storm to manifest over the ruins as Tallahart slowly began reawakening. This attracted the attention of the Knights of the Einherjar, which was under the command of Vice Captain Veronica. Veronica was tasked by Captain Baldrix, the Apostle of Darmoor who had attacked the Primacy's hideout, to proceed as planned while he entered the city, noting that the Adversary and the World Heart had grown much stronger since the Adversary's battle against Limbo in Carcion.

Meanwhile, the Adversary and Hawkeye were approached by Luce, who claimed to be a Seeker and offered to help them get past the illusion spell blocking their path in exchange for guiding them into the city, claiming that she wished to claim the 'divine treasure' within. Together, the group fought past the vengeful traces of the Ancient Gods, whose residual power had mixed with their hatred towards the Adversaries who had defeated them in order to create powerful monsters. At the bridge to the city, the Glory Guard was ambushed by Veronica, though the World Heart reacted to the Adversary's willpower and instinctively created a protective shield with its divine power. With Veronica having entered the city and left behind powerful rejuvenating golems with Baldrix's power, Hawkeye stayed behind to hold the golems off while the Adversary and Luce entered the city.

Inside Tallahart, Luce revealed that the divine treasure could only be obtained by breaking the three seals at the altars of the lesser gods. As they fought past the vengeful spirits of the gods' power, the pair witnessed echoes of the gods' memories, in which they witnessed the Ancient Gods of Tallahart being defeated by the Adversaries of Odium. On the way to the first altar, they were stopped by Veronica, whom the Adversary easily defeated with the power of the World Heart. After a furious Veronica was forced to retreat by one of Baldrix's portals, the pair arrived at the first seal, where Baldrix revealed himself and immediately sensed a strange aura from Luce, causing him to change his plans and attack the Adversary with a draining crystal. Immediately, the World Heart reacted and shattered the draining crystal with its greater power, breaking the seal as Baldrix disappeared. As the World Heart began absorbing the power of the gods of Tallahart inside the seal, the Adversary witnessed memories of the supreme Ancient God of Tallahart, Noctis, whose immense power allowed her to easily defeat the Adversaries of Odium sent to destroy her.

Meanwhile, the Primacy arrived at Tallahart and used special bullets created by Gob to defeat the rejuvenating golems, saving Hawkeye's life before ordering him to tell them where the Adversary was. The Primacy confronted the Adversary and demanded that they surrender the power of the Ancient Gods, claiming that they wished to make weapons with that power, though Luce was enraged that the Primacy believed the power of the gods to be nothing more than tools for them to exploit. Hawkeye then brokered a deal to lend the Adversary as a weapon against the Primacy's enemies, with the Primacy offering their aid against the Knights of the Einherjar. The group then reached the second seal, which the Adversary broke by absorbing more of the divine power within. They then witnessed memories of the Ancient Gods of Tallahart confronting Noctis, expressing their fear of the Overseers now that their immortality was under threat from the Adversaries. Though Noctis remained unconcerned by the Overseers, believing that her supreme power would allow her to keep herself and her twin sister safe, the other gods secretly conspired to steal Noctis' power in order to save themselves.

Meanwhile, Baldrix and Veronica monitored the situation from the skies, with Veronica frustrated that Baldrix had changed plans and was allowing the Adversary to keep stealing the power of the gods. However, Baldrix scolded Veronica and told her to remain patient, after which he ordered her to standby and separate the Adversary and Luce from the others while he prepared to face them personally. With the others cut off, the Adversary and Luce made their way to the third altar, where Luce expressed her surprise at the Adversary for their compassion towards the Ancient Gods, in stark contrast to their predecessors, who had been puppets created for the sole purpose of being godslayers. After the Adversary absorbed the power of the final seal, they witnessed a memory of the gods forcing Noctis to make a contract, in which she would surrender her power in exchange for the life of her sister, Luce. However, the gods betrayed Noctis once again by stripping Luce of her power and banishing her from Tallahart, with Luce vowing to save her sister - whom she called her treasure - as the gods stole Noctis' power. However, the gods were unable to handle Noctis' immense strength, resulting in Tallahart's destruction and the gods' defeat at the hands of their Adversaries.

With the seals broken, Luce rushed to save her sister, though Baldrix defeated her and captured her power into a draining crystal. The Adversary soon found Luce dying, with her body scattering away without her power. The Adversary then worked with the Primacy to ambush Baldrix, with the Primacy swearing revenge on him for his earlier massacre of their allies. The Adversary then fought and defeated Baldrix, who was impressed by their strength and revealed that a great culling would soon take place, and that only worthy lives - such as the Adversary - would survive and live under Darmoor's rule. Promising that they would have a proper fight later, Baldrix gave them the draining crystal containing Luce's power before disappearing as the seal on Noctis broke. Recognizing her sister's stolen power inside the crystal, Noctis fought the Adversary, who managed to defeat her with the power of the World Heart and Noctis' weakness from the seal aiding their efforts. However, the Adversary refused to take her life and claimed that they would choose a different destiny, surprising Noctis with their decision.

After learning that they had actually been helping Luce, Noctis abandoned her desire for revenge against the gods and made a deal to give her remaining power to the Adversary in exchange for Luce's power, with which she hoped to use their connection as twins to find a way to bring her back to life. With their deal concluded, the Adversary and their allies were sent outside Tallahart, where the Primacy reminded the Adversary of their earlier deal to use them for their future missions before returning back to base. The Adversary and Hawkeye then returned back to Ereve, where they reported their findings to Neinheart, who planned to call an Alliance meeting to discuss Darmoor's culling. Meanwhile, Baldrix and Veronica returned to Aboris, where Baldrix noted that the Adversary - whom he called the Vessel - was in more stable condition than anticipated, and that Darmoor's plans would be possible if the World Heart was completed. After Darmoor thanked him and left to begin the cull, Veronica - angered and frustrated by Baldrix's decisions - secretly plotted to overthrow him and replace him, not only as the Captain of the Knights of the Einherjar, but to secure an even higher position altogether.

Morning Star Banquet

The Primacy called the Adversary inside Tirnog, where they revealed that the Morning Star Banquet, a New Year's celebration, would soon take place at the High Flora capital of Aboris. Though Gerand Darmoor never attended such banquets, the Primacy hoped to learn more about the Apostles by infiltrating the event. The Adversary agreed to help and used a special illusory device created with Gob's Ancient God technology to disguise themselves as a High Flora commoner in order to pose as a servant during the event. Alongside Khafdi, the Adversary infiltrated the event and began working alongside the other servants to gain information about the Apostles.

Meanwhile, five Apostles - Reina, Havoc, Baldrix, Limbo, and Ypsilon - were called to Darmoor's villa by the Apostle Ressa, a human amongst Darmoor's ranks and the messenger of the God-King. With the other Apostles away on missions, Ressa revealed to them that with Baldrix having confirmed the Adversary's condition as a stable Vessel, as well as the World Heart well underway towards completion, Darmoor had ordered for the great culling to take place even sooner than originally planned. Following the meeting, the Apostles began attending the banquet, with the Adversary being tasked by the Head Servant with tracking the moods of the Apostles, as the Apostles were not on friendly terms with each other. With the villa's garden having been tended to by Asha herself, the Head Servant explained that it was imperative that the villa not be damaged, as the Apostles had routinely destroyed the venue each year because of their in-fighting.

While monitoring the Apostles, the Adversary discovered certain information about the Apostles:

  • Reina had been injured from absorbing the backlash of the draining crystal in Arteria. Because of this, Reina had left the banquet early to carry out Darmoor's new mission, leaving her adjutant, Lystor, to stay behind and monitor the situation.
  • Limbo was extremely anxious about being reprimanded by Darmoor after his spectacular failure at Carcion.
  • Ypsilon was not on good terms with Reina, taking great pleasure in Reina's injuries.
  • Havoc found Darmoor's new mission amusing, especially in light of his own home, Tynerum, on the verge of annihilation. Nevertheless, Havoc remained unconcerned, as Darmoor's plans for Grandis was irrelevant to him as someone who did not call Grandis home.
  • Baldrix, like Darmoor, did not enjoy banquets and instead spent his time in the garden admiring Asha's handiwork.
  • Ressa spoke with the Adversary and hinted at the fact that he had seen through their disguise, despite Gob's belief that only a Transcendent could see through his divine handiwork. Nevertheless, Ressa claimed that neither the Alliance, the Primacy, nor the Adversary would be able to stop Darmoor's plan, for which he chose not to call out the Adversary.

During the event, the Adversary encountered a High Flora who revealed himself to be Khafdi. Khafdi revealed that he was appearing at the banquet in his true body, revealing that he was a High Flora who had turned against his own people. As the banquet continued on, four of the Apostles' adjutants - Lystor, Veronica, Avril, and Albaire - appeared after the Apostles left. Veronica quickly sought out Ressa and began insulting him for daring to be an Apostle while being a human being, insulting him as a ‘lesser race'. Ressa remained polite for a time before subtly jibing at her ambitions to take Kaling's empty Apostle seat. As tensions grew, Veronica and Ressa both unleashed their magic as they prepared to fight each other. Panicking over what to do, the Head Servant begged Avril to speak with Veronica, as Avril had once been a Knight of the Einherjar alongside her before she had become Havoc's adjutant. Though Veronica lashed out at Avril for serving a demon, and then defending a human like Ressa, she nevertheless listened to Avril and agreed to stand down.

Following the end of the conflict, the Adversary was tasked by the Head Servant with tracking the moods of the four adjutants, who were the only adjutants to appear at the banquet. During this mission, the Adversary learned more about the adjutants and their situation:

  • Veronica was enraged at the idea that lesser races were being given positions over the High Flora, such as Kaling, Havoc, and Ressa. She believed that the failure of High Flora like Limbo had lowered Darmoor's standards in his own race, for which she believed that such pathetic High Flora should be purged with the other races, believing that she would deliver far better results than them.
  • Avril was tired from breaking up the fight, as she could barely handle dealing with Havoc. She was confused why Veronica would listen to her, as the two of them hadn't been close, even when they had been in the knighthood together.
  • Lystor was highly concerned about Reina's injuries and insistent on accompanying her on her next mission before agreeing to listen to her and remain behind to monitor the situation.
  • Albaire was disturbed by Darmoor's new orders and began having doubts over the direction of where the High Flora were going.

With no more Apostles or adjutants arriving, Khafdi and the Adversary agreed to end the mission, having obtained a great deal of key information about the Apostles and their new orders. On their way out, the Adversary encountered Melange at the banquet. Though they wished to speak with him, they chose not to draw attention to themselves in order to avoid having their cover blown. In the outer garden, the Adversary encountered Asha tending to the garden. Though Asha did not introduce herself by name, she revealed that she was the gardener, and that she was making sure that the flowers were healthy. As she grew angry at the thought of people ruining her flowers, mysterious dark energy began emanating from her, causing the Adversary to realize that she was no ordinary gardener. Recalling how Baldrix had mentioned her, they realized that Asha must be quite notable if the Apostles themselves knew and respected her.
