Potential

Potential, often referred to as Potential Lines are bonuses that can be applied to most types of Equipment. Equipment dropped from mobs and bosses can drop with potential applied, and will pulse with a bright light on their sprite when dropped on the ground.
Overview
- Equipment typically starts with Rare Potential, revealed upon picking up and shown at the bottom of its tooltip. It can start with a higher tier of Potential at a small chance.
- Potential consists of at most three random stat bonuses.
- Certain stat bonuses are stronger than others, and are colloquially referred to as prime lines by the community. These are typically more potent stat increases or special effects, such as cooldown reduction or meso and drop rate increases.
- In most cases, the first Potential line will always be a prime line. The second and third lines may also be prime lines, but at a much lower chance.
- Certain stat bonuses are stronger than others, and are colloquially referred to as prime lines by the community. These are typically more potent stat increases or special effects, such as cooldown reduction or meso and drop rate increases.
- Equipment that do not have innate Potential can obtain it through the use of Potential Scrolls.
- The following equipment will never innately have or obtain potential:
- Medals
- Badges (excluding the Ghost Ship Exorcist, Sengoku Hakase Badge and the Shackles of Resentment badges)
- Pocket Items
- Androids (however Android Hearts can obtain potential)
- Totems
- Certain rings, most notably Special Skill Rings or rings with innate special effects (like Dark Angelic Blessing or Adventure Deep Dark Critical Ring)
Ranks

Potential is divided into four ranks or tiers of increasing power, denoted by the colored trim surrounding the item and the color of the Potential tag on the equipment's tooltip.
- Rare equipment have a blue outline
- Epic equipment have a purple outline
- Unique equipment have a yellow outline
- Legendary equipment have a green outline
Potential lines draw from a set pool of bonuses divided among these ranks.
The possible stat percentage bonus amounts depend on the potential rank and equipment level. The higher the rank and equipment level, the higher the possible maximum stat percentage bonus.
| Level/Rank | Rare | Epic | Unique | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0-30 | 1% | 2% | 3% | 6% |
| 31-70 | 2% | 4% | 6% | 9% |
| 71-150[1] | 3% | 6% | 9% | 12% |
| 151+[1] | 4% | 7% | 10% | 13% |
Resetting Potential
An equipment's potential can be reset through the use of Cubes. Cubes will not only randomly reassign the equipment's potential stats, but will also have a fixed chance to increase the potential's rank if below Legendary. The highest Potential rank that can be obtained will vary depending on the type of cube used, and cubes that only apply up to a lower rank cannot be used on items with a higher Potential rank. Furthermore certain cubes may have a higher chance of increasing the rank of the Potential or obtaining more potent stat lines, and certain stat lines can only be obtained some specific cubes. Having an Insight trait of level 60 or 90 can also reset the potential of equipment whose level requirements are at most level 70 or 120 for free, respectively.
Bonus Potential

Bonus Potential is a secondary system that functions identically to the potential system, and can only be obtained on Regular/Interactive Worlds. Bonus Potential lines are drawn from separate pools, but otherwise share the same concepts:
- Bonus Potential is divided into four ranks: Rare, Epic, Unique, and Legendary.
- Bonus Potential can be added to a piece of equipment using a
Bonus Potential Scroll. - Bonus potential can be reset using specific cubes, such as
Bonus Mystical Cubes or
Bonus Bright Cubes.
Bonus Potential is completely separate from and stacks with regular potential. That is, a piece of equipment can have one, both, or neither of either Potential or Bonus Potential.
Retired Systems
Potential Stamps
Prior to the Post-Assemble / Post-Every Little Thing Every Precious Thing Update, any equipment with less than three rows of Potential could have obtain a second (if applicable) and third line with a
Silver Potential Stamp,
Gold Potential Stamp, or
Perfect Potential Stamp. Similarly,
Basic Bonus Potential Stamp,
Intermediate Bonus Potential Stamp,
Advanced Bonus Potential Stamp, or
Perfect Bonus Potential Stamp could be used on equipment with less than three rows of Bonus Potential.
With the release of the Post-Assemble / Post-Every Little Thing Every Precious Thing Update, Potential Stamps have been phased out, and using a Cube on a piece of equipment with less than three rows of Potential would automatically bring it up to three rows. Consuming Potential Stamps will allow players to instead receive untradable Power Elixirs proportional to the prior success rate of the Stamp.
Notes
- In ChinaMS, B, A, S, and SS are used to refer to Rare, Epic, Unique, Legendary, respectively.
