The Guardian of the Western Seal, tasked with protecting the seal of the World Tree. He hosts a massive tea party in the West Garden, waiting for guests. Hmm, a tea party... That does sound intriguing.
I'm curious about what treats might be there, but it would be wiser to keep my distance for now. You never know, I could end up being one of those treats! This guardian is said to be the third strongest among the four of them. Rumor has it that he wears a strange hat and performs bizarre tricks. Some even say Pierre appears as two figures at once somehow.
― Chronicler Harper

Pierre is one of the four main bosses of Root Abyss, working for Damien to restrict the World Tree's power. He can be found by entering the First Seal Door in the Colossal Root. Pierre drops the  Piece of Mockery when defeated in Chaos mode, 5 of which can be exchanged for a Level 150 Trixter Bottom, a part of the Level 150 Root Abyss Set.

Battle Overview

Pierre can be fought in Normal and Chaos mode. You must be in a party of 1 - 6 players in order to fight him, and each player will have a Death Count of 5. If all players reach 0 lives, then the battle will end and the party will be kicked out of the boss fight. The battle has a time limit of 15 minutes in Normal mode and 20 minutes in Chaos mode.

Upon entering the boss battle, the fight will begin immediately in the Afternoon Tea Table, unlike the other Root Abyss bosses which require you to click specific spots.

From the bottom of my heart, welcome to the tea party!

― Pierre
  • Falling Hats: Throughout the battle, hats will periodically fall on several marked spots on the map. If you get caught under one of these hats, it will inflict Petrify, and you must break free by tapping the left and right arrow keys repeatedly to avoid dying.
  • Umbrella Swing: Pierre will whack players at close range with his umbrella, dealing regular damage in Normal mode and % HP damage equivalent to (50% HP - Player Defense) × 0.55 in Chaos mode; in Chaos mode, this attack also has the ability to inflict Confusion for up to 1 second, reversing your key directions.
  • Umbrella Push: Pierre will use his umbrella to push players at close range with his umbrella, dealing % HP damage equivalent to (100% HP - Player Defense) × 0.55 in Normal mode and 70% HP damage in Chaos mode, with the ability to inflict Stun for up to 2 seconds and apply Super Knockback. This attack has a 5 second cooldown.
  • Pierre's Hats: Starting at 71% HP remaining, Pierre will periodically change the color of his hat and outfit to either red or blue at random, and will also start putting red or blue hats on players as well (which will also be visible in the buff window). Pierre will transform into his red or blue form for 20 seconds at a time, each of which will have different attack patterns, before returning back to his default purple form; he will ignore any Stun / Bind applied to him when transforming. Attacking Pierre if your hat color is the same as his will heal him, whereas attacking Pierre if your hat is different will double the damage you can deal to him (though this will not apply to Pierre's purple form).
    • This pattern can waste a lot of time since the colors chosen for Pierre's hat and your hat are completely random, and will sometimes render you unable to attack unless Pierre is in his purple form.
    • If you have invincibility or a Hero's Will-type skill activated right as Pierre uses this, you will not have a hat applied to your character, but it will not remove any hat you already have on.

Red

  • Umbrella Swing: Similar to his purple form, Pierre in his red form will whack players at close range with his umbrella, dealing regular damage in Normal mode and % HP damage equivalent to (50% HP - Player Defense) × 0.55 in Chaos mode; in Chaos mode, this attack also has the ability to inflict Slow for up to 3 seconds.
  • Teleport Attack: Pierre will teleport to a random player and attack, dealing 50% HP damage 3 times and effectively killing the player. Pierre will always teleport to a random player's original location, so the player will have to move to any other spot on the map. This attack has a 9 second cooldown.

Blue

  • Tornado: If Pierre changes into his blue form, he will spin around in a fiery tornado and chase a random player, leaving trails of fire behind him as he moves that inflicts up to 3,000 damage every second in Normal mode and up to 6,000 damage in Chaos mode; the damage is Fire-elemental and is reduced if you have a skill that increases your own Elemental Resistance. If you take touch damage from him, you will be inflicted with Seal for up to 3 seconds.

Split (Chaos mode only)

Starting at 31% HP or less remaining (Chaos mode only), if Pierre is in his purple form, he will split into two; his blue hat form and his red hat form. They will both chase down the player and switch colors every 20 seconds. While Pierre has been split, the player will always have either a red or blue hat on, which means there will never be a point in the fight where they can damage both Pierre forms unless the player dies and revives. In addition, the Falling Hats will appear twice as much as before.

  • The player will have to kill both Pierres at the same time to clear the fight by lowering both forms' HP separately to prevent the same-color form from being healed; if only one form is killed, the other form will switch colors after 5 seconds and the dead form will be revived with 10% HP remaining. This part will be tricky for classes with skills that damage 2 or more enemies at once, since the two Pierres will frequently be in close range of each other.
  • The only way to remove a hat is to die, and it is highly recommended that players respawn immediately after the following switch cycle, which will allow players to damage both forms at once for a brief period. If in a party of 2 or more players, one player can lure the red Pierre away when it teleports while the blue Pierre chases down his designated target.
  • Alternatively, to skip this phase, players can burst Pierre while he is in his blue form and you have a red hat before he has the opportunity to split; you can still kill him when he's red and you're blue, but it's recommended you bind him beforehand because he can still teleport. If you do not have the damage output required to finish him off, you can deal as much damage as possible to mitigate the split phase.

While Pierre does not directly give EXP upon defeat, everyone who participates in the battle will receive the same amount. Normal mode will reward 220,000 EXP, and Chaos mode will reward 2,100,000 EXP.

Trivia

  • Pierre is based on the Mad Hatter from the Alice series by Lewis Carroll.
  • As of KMS v1.2.348, the hat design of Purple and Blue Pierre was changed so players with color blindness can distinguish between his different forms more easily.
