MapleStory Wiki:Migrating from Fandom
Hello, readers! Welcome to the new MapleStory Wiki, https://maplestorywiki.net. We have recently migrated from our Fandom wiki to this independently hosted site, which includes a new front page and all the pages and content you're already familiar with on Fandom.
Why migrate?
Migrating to the new wiki gives us a new, independent freedom from Fandom, and we’ve followed the well-trodden path of many other wikis that have migrated off Fandom, including RuneScape, Hollow Knight, and Minecraft.
- Less ads and tracking
- The Fandom site is unusable without an adblocker, whether on mobile or desktop. Advertising on Fandom covers more real estate than old school ads in the Free Market.
What Fandom feels like
- For the community
- Fandom is anti-competitive - they are intentionally making steps to vendor-lock editors into their platform, with no simple way of migrating content out of the site. Their policies are extremely strict when it comes to moving content out of Fandom - the wiki cannot be closed, and Fandom retains high search rankings. They are profit-focused, not community-focused. We want to flip this model and start giving back to the editors that have stuck on for over a decade.
- Control over content
- Fandom has been introducing new features that can’t be changed by their editors. To name a few:
- Featured Videos are videos and links unrelated to MapleStory which are placed within content pages, and they cannot be moved or removed. They are placed to boost viewership and search rankings of Screen Junkies and other subsidiaries.
- AI Quick Answers are autogenerated questions and answers about MapleStory will be added in the future to character pages, which are automatically added to pages without review. Wikis cannot opt-out and the content has already been incorrect. Wikis pride themselves for being accurate - Fandom is breaking this trust in search for profit.
- Quizzes - Fandom created multiple quizzes about MapleStory which cannot be edited by editors. They are littered with ads (there is an interstitial ad after answering 3 questions), and contain incorrect answers.

Ultimately, editors have put in thousands of hours of volunteer time into curating content about MapleStory - often going to lengths gathering information about drops and update history, just to have our content be used by a for-profit company.

We need your help
Fandom doesn’t allow wikis to be closed after they have migrated off Fandom. This means the old Fandom wiki will remain in place and continue to appear in search results.
As such, we need your help to be successful.
- Spread the word and use https://maplestorywiki.net when linking to the wiki.
- Don’t click on Fandom links when searching on Google. This helps put us further up on search results.
- Use the Indie Wiki Buddy extension, https://getindie.wiki/, which will redirect you to our new wiki.
