Foreword
When it comes to cooking in Henesys, there's no ignoring the mush in the room. To say that this town's recipes include mushrooms does a grave disservice to the ingenuity of its people, who incorporate it into every dish they make. Be it the subtle fragrance of a dried mushroom stew or otherwise, I will share recipes key to any would-be chef of Henesys cuisine.
Orange Mushroom Bacon Soup
Ingredients
300g Orange Mushrooms
Bacon (more is better)
1/2 onion
1 clove of garlic
2 spoonfuls flour
500ml milk
Dash of salt and pepper
Recipe
1. Slice the Orange Mushrooms, and finely chop the onion and garlic.
2. Render the bacon in a large saucepot.
3. Saute the onion and garlic in the bacon fat on medium heat.
4. Add the Orange Mushrooms and saute until softened.
5. Add flour and stir for 1 minute until it thickens into a roux.
6. Add milk a little at a time while stirring to prevent clumping.
7. Simmer on low heat for approximately 10 minutes.
8. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
9. Bon appetite (while wondering if you added too much bacon).
Homestyle Henesys Stew
Ingredients
Orange Mushrooms
Blue Mushrooms
Green Mushrooms
Horny Mushrooms
1/2 onion
1/2 leek stalk
Mixed herbs to taste
800ml water
150g meat of choice
1 spoonful minced garlic
Recipe
1. Destem the mushrooms, retain the caps.
* Do NOT hesitate during Step 1...or else.
(The 'or else' being that they'll leap out of your stockpot.)
2. Roughly chop the onion and leek.
3. Add the herbs to your liking. (Too many may produce an undesirable medicinal quality.)
4. Finely chop your meat of choice.
5. Add everything to the pot and bring to a boil.
- This process does not need to be elegant. Just toss it all in.
6. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and cook until all ingredients are tender.
7. Bon appetite. (Results may vary.)
Whole Grilled Mushmom
Ingredients
Any type of Mushmom
Olive oil as needed
Dash of salt
Dash of pepper
Recipe
1. Wash the Mushmom in flowing water.
- Resist the urge to chop it up.
As the name suggests, the Mushmom will be cooked whole to retain its juices
2. Brush the Mushmom with olive oil.
3. Light and pre-heat a charcoal or a barbecue grill.
4. Place the prepared Mushmom on the hot grill.
5. Grill on all sides, ensuring each is thoroughly browned.
6. As soon as it begins leaking juices, remove from heat and season to taste with salt and pepper.
* Step 6 may take up to 2 hours. Patience is key.
Overcooking will lead toward a dry and tough texture.
7. Bon appetite. Serve warm and savor the smoky flavor.
