Lately, I've had recurring thoughts...was it a mistake to fall deeply in love with a Fairy? I confess that I did not count on suddenly being so aware of my lifespan in comparison to that of an immortal. It's funny that I worry already about what would most likely happen in 40-50 years, but... I am afraid of one day leaving Phyllia for good. Such a painful goodbye...perhaps there is a way to avert it...

Phyllia is pregnant! I am filled with joy and curiosity to see how he or she will look. Phyllia mentioned how rare it is to have a baby between a Fairy and a human being, and she feels that it's a blessing from the Goddess, but... why can't I shake off this uneasy feeling? Since the baby is half Fairy, the baby should live a long time...but just thinking about leaving Phyllia and my child by themselves makes me queasy.

I began new research on extending one's lifespan. Some magicians were able to succeed in doing so, but...no known alchemists so far that have succeeded in this. (Alcaster did, but he's a magician as well...) Unlike magic, alchemy is a field where one needs to pay a price in order to achieve the desired result. I'll just have to put my faith in the power of Alcadno.

I didn't even know where to start in terms of prolonging one's life, so I decided on a multiple experiment approach. Medicine and potions will be a good start, and I began working with Russellon. However, I have met another fellow, with a variety of bright ideas. Maybe it's because he's a wandering alchemist who travels the world, but his opinions and views are radical. Change the human body into a machine?

The research is not going well. Mechanizing the human body works in theory, but not in reality. The test subjects all cease being human. Why prolong my life if I would become a mindless husk? Never to hear laughter or crying again...what will I do?

 

...This is driving me crazy. I don't see this experiment working out. Phyllia's stomach is getting bigger and bigger by day. I am getting nervous. Too nervous. This is driving me insane.

My precious child opened her eyes for the first time today. With her blonde hair and milky white skin...she looks exactly like Phyllia, ever with her tiny wings. She is beautiful beyond compare. We decided to name her Keeny. Phyllia is quite fond of the name...says its 'fitting for a fairy.' I must find a way to prolong my life, so I might see my child grow. But how? While passing through the lab in the basement, I found a strange, ancient passage that I didn't notice before. It looked like a passage that was used a long time ago... It appears to link the two societies, as wel as lead further underground. Never knew there was a place like this in Magatia. It seems shrouded in secrecy, and thus, such a secret bears further investigation.

I decided to explore the previously unknown, seemingly endless, underground passage. After descending for what seemed like an eternity, I encountered a mysterious cave... It appeared to be some sort of lab. I had no idea about this. While cleaning up the hopelessly messy cave, I found a wealth of old data. What secrets are hidden among these pages?

...I found out an amazing, no, terrifying truth. The lab I found in the underground passage belonged to the Black Mage. I can't believe it. The lab of that evil human being actually still exists...? Then I came back to my senses, and realized that since the Black Mage has been around for hundreds of years, he may know a thing or two about extending the lifespan.

 

...I have started to really delve into the research data the Black Mage came up with... I knew deep in my heart that I shouldn't do this, but... as long as I can extend my lifespan...

...The records that the Black Mage left behind... they seem eerily similar, even though he came up with these hundreds of years ago. Why is that? It's convenient in that it's easy to duplicate... but... something inside me feels not right about this.

The alchemy of Magatia, and that of the Black Mage. The more I uncover, the more the link appears to be irrefutable. Please let it all be foul happenstance. And there is this hidden disciple, who wished to combine terrible magic and technology. Where has he gone...?

 

My fears are now confirmed. Not only is the alchemy of Magatia based upon the Black Mage, the very foundations of this land are steeped in his power. For a deserted, dry land like this with no oasis to have a town like this... has to be because of the Black Mage. That evil Black Mage...for his work to be the genesis of what we all do these days...is that really the inconvenient truth about Magatia?

 

What would happen if the world found out that I had been using the studies of the Black Mage to extend my lifespan? A tempting thought, I must admit. Though it would earn me scorn from everyone in this land. The alchemists of Alcadno, Zenumist, the head of the Alcadno Society, even Russellon...even the wandering alchemist would no longer respect me. Even with all that...if the experiment worked out...
