Sino, also known as the Fox God, is a Great Spirit of Grandis and the guardian of Fox Point Village on Vulpes, where she protects the Pointy-Ear Fox Anima. Sino possesses the ability to change between her Anima form and her fox form.

Story (Post-Remaster)

Note: Sino's storyline was remastered under the KMS story team's new continuity in the Milestone Update.

The Ancient War

As a Great Spirit, Sino held immense power amongst the spirits of Grandis, serving as the village guardian of the Pointy-Ear Fox Anima, who worshiped her as the Fox God. From her domain high above the clouds, Sino would use her powers to bless the fox Anima with fox spirits, who served as their guardian spirits to protect them from harm. The Anima created a shrine dedicated to the Fox God at the Fox Tree, where they would pray to a statue of the Fox God in order to receive her blessings. During the Ancient War, Sino was acquainted with the elders of Grandis and witnessed the experiments to create Adversaries in Odium. Sino knew many of the researchers personally, including Kaling, whom she remembered for her kind heart. After the end of the war, Sino continued to remain in contact with the elders, who had sequestered themselves in Shangri-La in order to stop their contamination from spreading, and gave them news about what was transpiring in the outside world.

Facing the Nova

At one point, Sino's Cloud Guardians fought in a battle against the Nova, who were led by Magnus and the former Kaiser. In the midst of the carnage, which resulted in the death of many Nova and Guardians, Magnus abandoned Kaiser and left him surrounded alone by the enemy.

Helping Shade

After Shade sacrificed his existence to seal away the Black Mage, he remained trapped within a space between dimensions as the seal began weakening over centuries. Hundreds of years later, Shade was able to cross over into Grandis through a dimensional crack in the void after hearing a girl calling out for help. He emerged in Vulpes, where he found an Anima girl named Moonbeam being attacked by a tiger monster, which had already killed her parents. Despite being severely weakened, Shade used the last of his strength to protect Moonbeam from the monster's attack, just as the Fox God appeared to drive the tiger away. Recognizing that Shade had saved a fox Anima, the Fox God took Shade into her domain and attempted to heal the hero, who had fallen into a coma. Recognizing that his existence was flickering and unstable, Sino poured a large portion of her power into Shade in order to stabilize his existence, though at the cost of falling asleep for a long time from being drained of energy.

Many years later, Shade awoke at the Fox Tree, where he befriended Moonbeam and became an honorary fox. Moonbeam gave him the new name of 'Shade' and helped him acclimate to the village before taking him to pray to the Fox God at the Fox Tree. In response to Shade's prayers, the Fox God sent a fox spirit to protect Shade. Several months later, Shade decided to leave Vulpes and traveled to Maple World, causing his existence to be forgotten after moving across dimensions. After Shade returned back to Vulpes, he found that none of the Anima remembered him, including Moonbeam. The Fox God, who had forgotten Shade's existence as well, brought him to her domain, where she demanded to know how he had obtained power of the fox spirits. Though the Fox God believed that he had stolen that power, Shade quickly explained everything that had happened to him, causing the Fox God to realize that he had been forgotten each time that he had crossed dimensions. Believing that his story added up, the Fox God noted that she now understood where her missing power had gone, realizing that Shade was the one whom she had poured her power into in order to save. In order to ensure that he would not feel the same pain again, the Fox God gave Shade her blessings, explaining that though she couldn't undo the memories which had already been lost, she could ensure that he wouldn't be forgotten again. She then told Shade to make new memories, adding that she wanted him to be happy. With that, she sent Shade back to Vulpes, where he was relieved to know that his curse had been seemingly lifted, though he remained unsure how long Sino's blessings would hold.

As Shade continued to train and grow stronger, the Fox God called to him and summoned him to her domain, where she worriedly asked him why he hadn't returned to Fox Point Village, and whether the Anima had refused to hear his story. Shade explained that with the Anima unable to remember him, he had taken the opportunity to finish his business on Maple World first by defeating the Black Mage. The Fox God explained that after she had given her power to him, she had fallen into a deep slumber, which showed how strong and precious that power had been. However, she told him that she had done so gladly, as she recognized him as a fox under her protection and cared for his happiness. She then asked Shade whether defeating the Black Mage was how he would be happy, to which Shade explained that he wanted to protect everyone, and that after protecting Maple World, where his old ties were, he would return to Grandis, where his new ties were. The Fox God accepted his wishes, though she noted that he still ought to see Moonbeam, even from afar, as he would miss her for a long time if his business took him many years. She then teleported him to Vulpes, where Shade and Moonbeam reacquainted themselves once more. Soon after, the Fox God - in order to ensure that Shade would not remain a stranger to Moonbeam - used her power to enhance Moonbeam's guardian spirit into Shade, as the strongest fox spirits were those that took on the form of the person that one missed the most. She then brought Shade to see the gift that she had given both him and Moonbeam, after which she enhanced Shade's guardian spirit to take on Moonbeam's form as well.

Fox Valley Story

Many years ago, the Fox God rescued an Anima boy named Maru from the dangerous monsters in Fox Valley. In exchange, Sino made Maru promise to keep himself and the village safe. Since then, Maru gained the ability to enter the Fox God's domain through his dreams, where he befriended Sino in her Anima form, unaware that the girl was really the Fox God. Taking the Fox God's instructions to heart, Maru decided to train the other children in the village in order to make them strong enough to protect their home. However, his attempts at training - disguised as pranks - were poorly received by the other villagers, causing Maru to remain friendless, with the sole exception of Sino. Saddened and lonely, Maru sent out a note folded as a paper leaf airplane, praying to the Fox God to let it be received by someone who would be his friend. The note was eventually received by a traveler, who decided to seek out the sender on Vulpes. Around the same time, Maru visited Sino in his dreams, where he told her about his latest pranks. Suddenly, Sino felt an unnatural drowsiness overtake her and left to go fall asleep. As Maru chased after her, he found that the seat where she could normally be found was empty. Suddenly, he heard a great roll of thunder and lightning, with the Fox God appearing before Maru just before he awoke with a start.

After the traveler arrived, Maru worked with them to protect Fox Point Village, which was in danger of being flooded by a devastating storm. Despite their best efforts, the pair were unable to protect the village from the rain, causing them to realize that the only one who could save them was the Fox God. Together, the traveler and Maru scaled the Fox Tree and soon arrived in the Fox God's domain in the clouds, where they fought past her Sky and Cloud Guardians. While the traveler held the Guardians off, Maru encountered the sleeping Fox God and woke her up. The Fox God was shocked that she hadn't seen the storm coming and immediately used her powers to stop the flood from drowning the villagers. Maru then thanked the traveler for their help and sent them back home. Soon after, Sino discovered a draining crystal, which she immediately realized belonged to an Apostle of Gerand Darmoor. Concluding that her blocked vision and the storm had been caused by the same thing, she decided to speak with the elders in Shangri-La in order to inform them about the latest development in the outside world.

Aftermath

After the Black Mage's death, Shade met with Moonbeam and spoke with her for a while before returning home. As he began to leave, the Fox God appeared before him and asked why he was leaving, as he had told her that he would come live with the Anima once the Black Mage was defeated. However, Shade replied that he still had many more people to protect, as the ones who had shared their fate with him to protect Maple World were his family, just as the Anima were. The Fox God began asking him about Moonbeam, noting that she would still miss him, causing her voice to squeak as her fervor accidentally caused her to speak in her voice as Sino. Quickly making her voice deeper in embarrassment, the Fox God noted that Moonbeam was also someone that he wanted to protect, to which Shade noted that the guardian spirit which the Fox God had bestowed upon her would keep her safe as he kept moving ahead. The Fox God asked him whether he meant to say that the fight was not yet over, which Shade confirmed, adding that now that Maple World was safe, it was time to protect Grandis. After a pause, the Fox God told him that she would honor his will. She explained that it was her destiny to protect the foxes, which meant that their paths would have to diverge, though she invited him to seek her out whenever he needed her help.

Visiting Shangri-La

Following the incident at Fox Valley, Sino sent many letters to the elders about Darmoor and his Apostles. However, several traitorous elders who had sided with Darmoor began intercepting Sino's letters, causing the other elders to remain unaware about the chaos that was beginning to spread in the outside world. With no reply to her letters, Sino began fearing that the elders had no idea what was happening outside Shangri-La. With no other choice, Sino decided to visit Shangri-La herself in order to personally speak with the elders. Sino and her Guardians arrived in Shangri-La shortly after Kaling's invasion, where she learned the truth about the traitorous elders intercepting her letters. In order to catch the elders up on everything that they had missed, Sino gave them a mountain of papers that detailed the events of everything that had been happening in the outside world. During this time, the Adversary - who had been investigating the resurgence of contamination in Shangri-La - spoke with Sino about Haia, the pig elder whom the others suspected of being contaminated just like Kaling. Sino noted that Kaling was a name that she hadn't heard of in a long time, and that Kaling had been much nicer when they'd last met. She added that the contamination was quite scary, as it could make everyone change into something completely different from how they once were. When the Adversary asked her about Haia, Sino noted that she hadn't seen Haia at all since she'd come up to Shangri-La, which was strange, as Haia would always be the first person to welcome her whenever she'd visit.

Following the end of the Shangri-La storyline, the player can trigger several different dialogues with Sino and her Sky Guardian.

If the player didn't finish the Fox Valley theme dungeon and clicks on Sino's NPC, they will overhear Sino talking to Chouxian the ox elder about what happened in Fox Valley. She tells him that by checking the symbol of the Apostle of Darmoor, she was able to figure out who had sent the lightning storm. For Shade, Sino assures him that Moonbeam and the others are safe. She then tells Chouxian that she had meticulously written and sent many messages to the elders - even at the cost of losing sleep over it - but she hadn't known that they had never received even a single one. She explains that it now makes sense why he never got back to her, as communications were being intercepted, but she then asks Chouxian whether he really had no idea what was going on in the outside world. Chouxian replies that he had no idea that the situation was that serious, though he notes that it's fortunate that the Apostle's actions were stopped in Fox Valley before any more damage could be done. Sino then asks him if he's still being stubborn about upholding his sense of balance, adding that if an Apostle was almost able to block the vision of a village guardian, then the balance has already been broken. She then tells him that it's time to discuss what comes next.

If the player did finish the Fox Valley theme dungeon and clicks on Sino's NPC, she greets them happily and notes that it's been a while, adding that she had known that they were strong, but she hadn't expected them to come all the way to Shangri-La. If the player is Shade, Sino greets him by name at the beginning and laughs embarrassedly upon realizing that it's Shade's first time seeing her in her Anima form as Sino. Otherwise, she will recognize that the player has never met her. She then explains that she was able to save the village, thanks to them bringing Maru to her. She tells them that after stopping the storm, she had given a report to the elders, thinking that something unusual had been going on. However, she had gotten no reply back, which meant that the elders had no idea what was going on in the world below. Chouxian then tells Sino not to discuss the matter in front of outsiders, to which Sino asks him if he's still being stubborn about upholding his sense of balance, adding that if an Apostle was almost able to block the vision of a village guardian, then the balance has already been broken. She then tells him that it's time to discuss what comes next.

Shade gets some exclusive dialogue while speaking with Sino, which he can click specially as an option while talking to her NPC. Sino tells Shade that here are some people who always protect each other, even if they can't meet. They miss each other, even without knowing that they do, and even if the memories fade, their hearts still persist. She explains that even if they can't get back those lost memories, they can still build new memories again, adding that she thinks that he understands what she means.

The player can also talk to the Sky Guardian, which triggers different scripts depending on whether or not the player completed the Fox Valley theme dungeon.

If the player didn't complete Fox Valley, the Sky Guardian recognizes them as the stranger who saved Shangri-La and says that he's heard a lot of stories about them. If the player did complete Fox Valley, he recognizes them from when they met him while reaching the Fox God and thanks them for their actions, explaining that both the fox spirits and the elders of Shangri-La are indebted to them.

If the player is Hoyoung and completed Fox Valley, there is a special exclusive dialogue that can be triggered while speaking to the Sky Guardian. The Sky Guardian recognizes Hoyoung from Fox Valley and tells him that when they had last met, he had mistakenly thought that Hoyoung was Baekyeon the White Tiger, referring to Hoyoung's exclusive dialogue in Fox Valley, which has the Sky Guardian ask him why he's come down to the world below. He explains that he's heard that Hoyoung has saved not only Fox Valley, but Shangri-La as well, and so he tells Hoyoung that he can't be rude to him anymore. After thanking Hoyoung, he adds that Baekyeon must have been happy to hear his story.

Story (Pre-Remaster)

The Ancient War

During the Ancient War, Sino was acquainted with the elders of Grandis and witnessed the experiments to create Adversaries in Odium. Sino knew many of the researchers personally, including Kaling, whom she remembered for her kind heart. After the end of the war, Sino continued to remain in contact with the elders, who had sequestered themselves in Shangri-La in order to stop their contamination from spreading, and gave them news about what was transpiring in the outside world.

Village Guardian

In addition to aiding the elders, Sino served as the village guardian of the Pointy-Ear Fox Anima, who worshiped her as the Fox God.

Shade and Moonbeam

Immediately after the Black Mage broke free from his seal, the pirate hero who sacrificed his existence to power the seal reappeared on Grandis, where he was taken in by a girl named Moonbeam, who gave him the new name of Shade. Moonbeam helped Shade acclimate to the village before taking him to pray to the Fox God at the Fox Tree. In response to Shade's prayers, the Fox God sent a fox spirit to protect Shade, despite him being a human from another world. Some time later, Moonbeam gave Shade her guardian spirit after seeing how weak he still was. Several months later, Shade decided to leave Vulpes and traveled to Maple World, causing his existence to be forgotten after moving across dimensions. After Shade returned back to Vulpes, he found that none of the Anima remembered him, including Moonbeam, who had no recollection of giving her guardian spirit to Shade. Because of this, Moonbeam had continually been praying to the Fox God to get back her spirit, as she had assumed that the Fox God had taken it away for her bad behavior.

Aghast at his situation, Shade decided to pray to the Fox God and asked for the power and courage to put everything back into its place. In response to his prayer, the Fox God granted Shade greater mastery over his fox spirits. Eventually, Shade left Grandis, causing him to be forgotten once again. Soon after, the Fox God bestowed Moonbeam with a new guardian spirit who looked exactly like Shade. Later on, Shade returned to Grandis and found Moonbeam, who was surprised to find that Shade looked just like her guardian spirit. Moonbeam's grandfather, Silver, then arrived and explained that according to legend, there were certain guardian spirits that took the form of the person whom their owners missed the most, and that such guardian spirits were said to be more powerful than any other. Soon after, Shade's guardian spirit took on the appearance of Moonbeam, the person whom he missed the most.

Trivia

  • Though it was speculated that Sino may be an Ancient God, with her title even being the 'Fox God', the Shade storybook released during the Milestone event revealed Sino to be a spirit - specifically a Great Spirit, which is what Guwaru has been described to throughout the storyline. The Stone Colossus storyline reveals that Guwaru, as a Great Spirit, is tied to the world itself, which led to his corruption when the balance of the world shifted with the balance of the Transcendents shifting towards darkness. It is currently unknown whether Sino's position as a Great Spirit is similar in capacity to Guwaru's role on Maple World, and whether the shifting balance of the Transcendents on Grandis has affected her as well.
