Kapus is the immortal gatekeeper to the Sanctum of Abraxas.
Story
The Gatekeeper
After the fall of the Ancient Gods, Abraxas the Watchful God was tasked with watching the resting places of his brethren. In his sanctum dwelled his relic, the Eye of Abraxas, an airship capable of finding anything. Kapus was then tasked by Azwan the Lost King to guard the Sanctum of Abraxas. Kapus guarded the sanctum for ages, even long after the kingdom of Azwan had fallen to ruin at the hands of Hilla.
Meeting Freud
After the Heroes sealed the Black Mage, Freud divined a prophecy that foretold a threat to the World Tree. Hoping to find the Transcendence Stone in order to stop it, Freud traveled to the Sanctum of Abraxas in order to find his relic, which he hoped could help him locate the Transcendence Stone. At the entrance, Freud encountered Kapus and proved his worthiness by answering a riddle.
Freud's Successor
Centuries later, Evan and Mir traveled to the sanctum in order to finish what Freud had started. There, they encountered Kapus, who blocked their path. Just then, Mercedes arrived and defeated Kapus before attempting to finish him. Evan immediately stopped her and asked Kapus whether they could receive permission to enter the sanctum, just as Freud had.
Upon learning that Evan was Freud's successor, Kapus asked a riddle: What is long in the morning, short at noon, and long again at night? Evan successfully answered that it was a shadow, allowing them to pass with Kapus's blessing.
