Genesis Weapon

The Genesis Weapon is a Level 200 Weapon which starts as a Sealed Genesis Weapon, can be awakened in two stages, and is part of the Eternal Set. To obtain the weapon, Genesis Weapon Quests must be completed, with the first quest unlocked upon killing the Black Mage in Story Mode and completing the Level 255 main Limina questline. The act of obtaining the weapon is often called liberation.
The weapon can be further upgraded into a Destiny Weapon, with a new set of missions focused on Level 260+ Grandis bosses.

History
The Genesis Weapon system was first introduced with the v.202 Black Mage: New Beginning Patch released in January 22, 2019 as a mean to provide content for end-game players. Over the years, the liberation progress and the quests has underwent significant changes.
- Some mission conditions were changed:
- The Traces of Will: The King of Spiders missions had a condition where the time limit was reduced from 30 to 20 mins. This locked many classes from doing this quest, as the damage cap at that time was 10 billion and such classes simply did not have enough damage lines to keep up with Will's HP. Some Explorer classes coped with this limit by changing their job using the Open Job Advancement system to change their class into a class that can deal more lines per minute.[1]
- The Traces of Verus Hilla: The Red Witch mission required the player to fight all 4 phases of Verus Hilla.
- Those missions' conditions were changed to their current conditions during the RISE: Promise of the Guardian Update.[2]
- Each mission required the player to, in addition of killing the corresponding boss, defeat the Black Mage by killing the Genesis Crux at the end. Since the Black Mage is a monthly boss, the liberation process was significantly longer, with the average time lasting as low as 8 months assuming the player have the means to defeat the Black Mage every month.
- Until the MapleStory: Dreamer|Dreamer / GO WEST! Update, the player needed to collect Black Mage Remnants dropped from Genesis Crux. It was changed so killing the Genesis Crux alone will suffice.
- This condition was entirely removed during the NEXT / Stargazer Update, with the Traces of Darkness collected from Black Mage and his minions allowing players to complete the liberation process much faster.
- The unique UI for the Genesis Weapon questline was added in MapleStory: Dreamer / GO WEST!.
- The Genesis Pass system was added during the MapleStory: Assemble / Every Little Thing Every Precious Thing Update.
- The first player to acquire a Liberated Genesis Weapon in GlobalMS was Bane, a Demon Slayer from Bera.[3]
- Despite the weapon being unable to be enhanced by scrolling or Star Force (effectively preventing one from destroying it, aside from physically tossing it on the ground), in JapanMS the player was able to completely destroy their weapon because of how their unique Soul Weapon system worked (see Trivia). This forced the players to restart the Liberation process several times through the [Genesis Weapon] Weapon Reissue quest every time a Soul enhancement failed.
- This was changed in the NEXT Update, with the Soul Weapon destruction chance being removed, albeit with the success rate being lowered from 25% to 15%.
