The Interdimensional Portal of Maple World

An Interdimensional Portal is a tear in the fabric of spacetime, created when a Transcendent steals and uses the powers of another. There are two known Interdimensional Portals on Maple World, found at the Six Path Crossway and Lith Harbor, while there are multiple in Grandis, with the only two accessible portals being located in Pantheon's Great Temple and Vallora. However, the Interdimensional Portals in Lith Harbor and Vallora are only available to use by Ren.

Properties and Use

The Interdimensional Portal is an aberration created when a Transcendent forcibly takes and uses the power of another Transcendent. There are two known instances of such an event happening - one being when Gerand Darmoor stole Chronica's power, and when the Black Mage stole Rhinne's power. Although both instances involved stealing a Transcendent of Time's power, it is stated that the theft of any Transcendent can result in a tear in spacetime, rather than the theft of the power of time specifically. The reason for this tear is due to a physical backlash from a violation of the natural order. In addition to tearing the fabric of spacetime, this backlash will also severely weaken a Transcendent, such as when Gerand Darmoor was weakened after taking Chronica's power, resulting in him recovering in the shadows for many years. As the Transcendents are meant to sustain the balance of the world, this mechanism was designed by the Overseers to deter a Transcendent from stealing the power of another.

It is currently unknown what conditions result in the creation of more than one Interdimensional Portal, such as whether it is due to the amount of power stolen, the number of times the stolen power is used, or any other criteria. In the case of both Gerand Darmoor and the Black Mage, multiple Interdimensional Portals were created after they used the power of Chronica and Rhinne, respectively. If the stolen power is sealed away, the Interdimensional Portals will disappear until the seal is sufficiently degraded enough that the power can trickle back into the world resulting in the portals' reappearance. Usage of the portal is one-way, meaning that it is impossible to return back to one's original dimension without another means of traveling back from the other. In the event that a dimension is fused with another dimension that the Interdimensional Portal leads to, the portal itself will not disappear, and can still be used to travel quickly from one point to another.

Story

Grandis

Following the end of the Flora Civil War, Gerand Darmoor - the Transcendent of Life - sought out Chronica, the Transcendent of Time, at the Chronica Sanctuary, where he attempted to convince them to help him remake life. When Chronica refused to aid him, Darmoor stole the power of time from Chronica and sealed them within their own sanctuary. As a result. several Interdimensional Portals appeared all across Grandis, with Darmoor rumored to have used one to cross over into another dimension. One such portal was used by Magnus to cross into Maple World, where he became a Commander of the Black Mage in order to gain power and learn more about the Black Mage's plans. Another portal was created in the Great Temple of Pantheon, though the Nova had refrained from using it, unsure of where it led. Decades later, however, the Nova sent Kaiser and Angelic Buster through the Interdimensional Portal in order to find allies to fight Magnus and Darmoor in Maple World. Yet another portal was created in Vallora, which was sealed away by the Traveler's Guild of Vallora until it was unsealed and used to travel to Maple World.

Maple World

Centuries ago, the Black Mage - the Transcendent of Light - invaded the Temple of Time and used the Abyss Crystal to steal the power of Rhinne, the Transcendent of Time. Because of this, two Interdimensional Portals were created on Victoria Island, both of which led to Grandis. After Magnus stole the powers of Guwaru, he used an Interdimensional Portal to return back to Grandis. After the Black Mage was sealed away by the Heroes, the power of time - which had created the portals - was sealed away with him, causing the Interdimensional Portals to disappear. Over the centuries, however, the Black Mage's seal began to weaken, with the power of time slowly trickling back out. Soon before the seal was completely broken, the Interdimensional Portals reappeared in Maple World at the Six Path Crossway and Lith Harbor. The portal at the Six Path Crossway was used by adventurers from across Maple World to explore Grandis, with the Nova and the Maple Alliance soon forming an alliance to work together. Meanwhile, the Interdimensional Portal in Lith Harbor remained hidden, known only to the Traveler's Guild in Vallora. The Interdimensional Portals on Maple World and Grandis then became the medium for travel across the two dimensions.

Convergence

After the Black Mage's death, the absence of Transcendents on Maple World resulted in the two dimensions fusing together into one. As a result, Maple World and Grandis became the same planet, with the forgotten sea bridging together the two continents. Despite the convergence of the two worlds, however, the Interdimensional Portals remained active, allowing for immediate travel between Maple World and Grandis without having to physically travel between continents.
