Maple World is the first major dimension introduced in MapleStory, existing alongside Grandis and Tynerum. The Interdimensional Portal at Six Path Crossway leads to Grandis, while the Maple Guide leads to Crimsonheart Castle in Tynerum. Maple World consists of four major continents: Maple Island, Victoria Island, Ossyria, and Edelstein. In addition, there are also three smaller worlds that exist within the realm: a parallel world called Friends World, a Manipulated World created with Rhinne's power called Mirror World, and a world created by the Black Mage known as the Arcane River. Within overseas lore, there are also two areas known as the World Tour and Jianghu, home to overseas-exclusive content and storylines.
Hundreds of years ago, Maple World was driven to the brink of destruction at the hands of its fallen Transcendent of Light, the Black Mage, and his powerful Commanders. However, thanks to the sacrifice of six brave Heroes, the Black Mage was sealed away, creating an unprecedented era of peace and prosperity for Maple World, with intrepid Explorers adventuring across the land from their homeland of Maple Island. Centuries later, however, a mysterious organization known as the Black Wings take over the town of Edelstein, intent on freeing the Black Mage from his seal. In response to this growing threat, the young Empress Cygnus forms the Cygnus Knights in order to defend Maple World, while the people of Edelstein form the Resistance to liberate their city. After the Black Mage breaks free from his seal, the Empress forms the Maple Alliance between the Explorers, Cygnus Knights, Resistance, the Heroes, and warriors from other worlds in order to defeat the Black Mage and his Commanders once and for all.
Explorers, Cygnus Knights (including Mihile), Resistance, Heroes (except Shade), Kinesis, and Zero start here upon creation for their respective storyline, as well as the the overseas classes Mo Xuan and Lynn. After reaching Level 200, the Arcane River becomes the first major arc in the Adversary storyline, requiring Arcane Power to deal damage to monsters there. After Level 260, Maple World and Grandis fuse together into one dimension. Although the Western Grandis storyline primarily takes place on Grandis, the Arteria storyline is set in Ereve following the convergence of the two dimensions, with the Apostle Reina leading the High Flora invasion of Maple World.

Towns / Regions
Maple Island
- Main article: Maple Island
Maple Island is one of Maple World's smaller continents. It contains several towns dedicated to guiding Explorer Beginners on their way to Victoria Island, while also helping them decide on which job to advance to. The monsters on this island are weaker versions of monsters on Victoria Island. Explorer characters start here upon creation, with their introductory questline centered around meeting Sugar, who guides them and convinces them to travel to Victoria Island to become stronger. After the Explorer accidentally releases the Black Mage from his seal, he sends a shadow of his power to destroy Maple Island, and the player must return here with his new friends to save Maple Island from the Black Mage's destructive powers.
Victoria Island
- Main article: Victoria Island
Victoria Island is one of Maple World's major continents. It contains a diverse range of towns and is where many players travel when reaching Maple World for the first time. Explorers can complete the 1st Job Advancement by speaking to the 1st job instructor of their choice upon leaving Maple Island. The majority of the island contains monsters that are easy to kill at lower levels, though some areas contain stronger monsters that are suitable for average-leveled players.
Ossyria
- Main article: Ossyria
Ossyria is one of Maple World's major continents, serving as its mainland. It encompasses a vast majority of Maple World's territory and consists of seven subcontinents: El Nath Mts., Aqua Road, Ludus Lake, Nihal Desert, Mu Lung Garden, Minar Forest, and Temple of Time. The majority of Ossyria's mainland consists of monsters that are generally more difficult than those on Victoria Island (with certain exceptions like Kerning Tower and Dark World Tree). It is accessible from various places and provides transportation throughout its seven subcontinents.
Edelstein
- Main article: Edelstein
Edelstein is a continent under control by the Black Wings, set near the mines. Despite the new rule, citizens have secretly rebelled and formed the Resistance to counterattack the Black Wings. It also consists of a mine where the Black Wings Scientist Gelimer has set up a research laboratory. Edelstein encompasses the towns of Edelstein and Scrapyard. Resistance characters (including Demon and Xenon) start here upon creation, with their introductory questline centered around Edelstein. This continent can be accessed via airship by talking to Ace the Pilot at either Victoria Tree Platform or Orbis.
Mirror World
- Main article: Mirror World
Mirror World is a Manipulated World that exists alongside Maple World within the same dimension. As the limitation of the Transcendent of Time is that they cannot change the future which they have foreseen, the Goddess Rhinne realized that she could not stop the Black Mage from stealing her power. For this reason, she created the Child of the Goddess so that they would succeed her as the new Transcendent of Time in the distant future, thereby ensuring that the Transcendent of Time's power would not remain in the Black Mage's hands. To this end, Rhinne created a world infused with the power of time, intending to mask her child's aura from the Black Mage. However, a scholar named Will who recently became a Commander of the Black Mage, used Rhinne's power to locate the Child of the Goddess and remake her world into an imperfect replica of Maple World called Mirror World, after which he split the Child of the Goddess into two beings, imprisoning one in their own temple and brainwashing the other to serve in his Shadow Knights. Zero characters start here upon creation, with their questline from Level 100 - 180 centered around escaping Mirror World. Throughout the storyline, both Zero Alpha and Beta form close ties with the residents of Mirror World.
Friends World
- Main article: Friends World
Friends World is a parallel world that exists alongside Maple World within the same dimension. Friends World is extremely similar to the real-world Earth, including locations such as Seoul. However, Friends World is also populated by characters from Maple World and Grandis, each of whom live parallel lives to their counterparts, such as Cygnus being the young heiress to the Shinsoo Corporation who manages Shinsoo International Private School. Though Friends World and Maple World were divided by a dimensional barrier, the sealing of Maple World's three Transcendents allowed for the barrier to slowly weaken until Elwin, an apprentice of Grendel the Really Old, inadvertently shattered the barrier. As a result, the magical energies of Maple World began flooding into Friends World, resulting in the creation of dark monsters and certain people awakening with magical abilities. Unbeknownst to Elwin, the White Mage of Friends World had secretly conspired to open a portal between Maple World and Friends World, utilizing Kinesis - the first person from Friends World to gain magic from Maple World - as a catalyst to fuse their two worlds into one. As a result, massive sinkholes began appearing across Friends World, pulling portions of their world into Maple World. As a result, the convergence of Friends World, Maple World, and Grandis resulted in the creation of the Arcane River at the hands of the Black Mage, with a city from Friends World being pulled into the Arcane River due to this convergence. With the dimensional collapse of their world worsening, as well as more people developing magical abilities, Kinesis and his friends hope to create heroes who can stand up to the White Mage and stop him from carrying out his his mysterious plan.
Arcane River
- Main article: Arcane River
The Arcane River is a world located beyond the Temple of Time's Gate of the Present. Behind the Gate of the Present lies a convergence of three different worlds - Maple World, Grandis, and Friends World - with the Black Mage awaiting the player at the end. It is suitable for players Level 200 and above who have completed their Fifth Job Advancement. The Arcane River is created from high-grade Erdas, the building blocks of reality, for which the player must meet the three Goddesses of Maple World, Grandis, and Tynerum and awaken the ability to manipulate Erdas during the Fifth Job Advancement. Due to the Arcane Power present in this region, a new strength is required for Maplers to defeat the stronger Erda monsters found here.
World Tour
- Main article: World Tour
World Tour offers access to a number of cultural areas. Several versions of MapleStory have created areas based on their respective cultures. JMS was the first server to introduce World Tour with Zipangu. Although Spinel is available in JMS, Perry is used to transport players to Zipangu.
Jianghu
- Main article: Jianghu
Jianghu is an overseas continent in Maple World. It consists of two areas: Xuanshan and Eternal Forest, which serve as starting areas for Mo Xuan and Lynn respectively. Both areas can be only accessed by Mo Xuan or Lynn respectively.
