Sharen IV was the Prince of Sharenian, who attempted to seize the throne from his father and King Sharen III after seeing his father's obsession with the Rubian drive him insane.

Story

Kellad, was the captain of the royal guard became the teacher of him. When King Sharen III tried to kill Kellad, he stopped him and saved his life. Later, Sharen III became vindictive and tried to execute Kellad for treason, but he was able to keep him alive and merely have him dismissed from his court. In the end, Kellad became the commander of the Sharenian Defense Unit, a squad of knights consisting of who were rejected from becoming official Sharenian Knights for one reason or another consisting of Hardin, Ain, Ryan, Quieg, Ed. They would spend their time training by hunting moles nearby.

After Sharen III summoned Ergoth Dunamis in response to a coup lead by him, the squad was alerted by a fleeing knight that the king had been killed, with the prince's whereabouts unknown. Kellad and his squad ran back into the palace in an attempt to save the prince. They became trapped in a time loop by Ergoth's power, forced to endlessly relive the fall of Sharenian while attempting to break the curse, driven by their eternal pledge to Sharenian as long as a single person in their kingdom lived. As the days and months turned to years, each member of the squad except Quieg started exhibiting unusual behavior as a result of mental fatigue. As the rest of the group started losing focus, Ed, who had died a few cycles prior, reappeared as an ghost and informed the group that Kellad possessed the Rubian, a gem said to contain the ability to revive the dead. Hardin, Ain, and Ryan came to the conclusion that Kellad's true loyalty was to Prince Sharen IV rather than the kingdom of Sharenian. While they assumed Kellad wanted to use the Rubian to revive Sharen IV, his subjects aside from Quieg each had other plans. Kellad was forced to order Quieg, who was only driven by following orders and completing his mission, to kill his former allies. Kellad then destroyed the Rubian, revealing it to be an ordinary gem without special powers. Right before his former squad died, he told them all that his actual pledge to the prince was to prevent another king from going mad in pursuit of its power by destroying the Rubian in front of as many as possible.

Throughout these events, the White Mage disguised himself as the prince and would repeatedly convince Kellad to never give up his loyalty to the prince, facilitating Kellad's insanity and turning him into an eternally loyal servant. After Kellad's group killed each other, the White Mage, still disguised, informed Kellad that centuries had passed and that the group was trapped in a parallel dimension created by Ergoth Dunamis. The White Mage infused the Rubian with the power to bring his squad back to life, provided they find new bodies to inhabit.

As Kellad relayed the story of Sharenian and the Rubian to a group of treasure-hunting explorers (Mogg the Warrior, Khalid the Magician, Juli the Bowman, Coleman the Thief, and Freya the Pirate), he presents it to them as a reward for listening to his story. Upon touching the Rubian, the souls of Kellad's former allies fuse with the group of explorers, taking over their bodies and forming new beings that would become the Elite Bosses; Hardin fused with Mogg and became Mogadin the Black Knight, Khalid fused with Ain and became Khaliain the Mad Mage, Juli fused with Ryan and became Jurai the Vicious Hunter, Coleman fused with Quieg and became CQ57 the Rampant Cyborg, Freya fused with Ed and became Freyd the Bad Brawler, and Kellad fused with Ergoth Dunamis to become Darknell. The new group pledged to serve the White Mage and become his eternal servants.
