Asia, also known as Daidarabotchi, is one of the three Guardians of Zipangu. Formerly entrusted with the power of immortality, she exchanged her power for Ashray's power of time travel. She is currently involved in the Mushroom Shrine Tales, Neo Tokyo, and Asura Crisis storylines.

Story (Post-Remaster)

Asia's storyline was remastered in the Mushroom Shrine Tales Update.

Guardians of Zipangu

Asia, alongside Ashray and Dunas, was an exile from another dimension who arrived in Zipangu. All three of them were bestowed special powers by the world in order to protect Zipangu, with Asia having immortality, Ashray having time travel, and Dunas having reincarnation. The three then became the Guardians of Zipangu and used their powers to help the land, during which time, Ashray and Dunas became lovers. The three Guardians performed many miracles for the people of Zipangu and protected the ancient magic of the land by splitting the primal power that had created Zipangu into five pieces, known as the Five Elements of Zipangu - Fire, Metal, Water, Earth, and Wood. In order to prevent the power from falling into the wrong hands the Guardians distributed the Five Elements to five different Yokai, who became known as the Guardians of the Five Elements, with the duty of Guardianship being passed down from Guardian to Guardian. Eventually, however, Ashray learned that Zipangu was fated to be destroyed by a wave of energy that would swallow Zipangu whole. In order to stop it, Ashray asked Asia to swap powers, though Asia refused, as she believed that Ashray merely wanted the power of immortality so that she could live with Dunas, her lover, forever. Ashray then used her power to travel into the future, where she spent thousands of years fighting the Blaze Army - machines controlled by a powerful AI called the Blaze Core, which sought to wipe out humanity.

The Wave

Millennia later, Asia encountered Ashray in the year 2102, where she learned that Ashray had been fighting the Blaze Army the entire time. Ashray revealed the truth about the wave and explained that she had been planning to stop the wave by sealing it within her own body, which was why she had wanted the power of immortality in order to contain it without dying. She also explained that she had entered over ten million futures and had learned that simply sealing the energy wouldn't be enough, and that they would need a key to change the destructive energies of the wave into creation, which would allow them to recreate the destroyed world. Asia and Ashray then swapped powers, after which Ashray absorbed the energy into her body, though she was ultimately unable to contain it within herself, resulting in it bursting out and destroying Zipangu. Meanwhile, Asia traveled back to the past and told Dunas about Ashray's plan. However, Dunas believed that humanity - as selfish and self-destructive as they were - were fated to destroy themselves no matter what. Refusing to allow Ashray to suffer for their sake, he planned to force the apocalypse to happen before Ashray absorbed the wave into herself, believing that Ashray would have no reason to sacrifice herself if humanity was wiped out first.

The Acacia Chronicle

Asia and Dunas fought in the sacred tree of Kamuna, where Asia used Ashray's time powers to defeat Dunas and seal his spirit inside an artificial creature, thus preventing him from reincarnating. She then created a time freeze inside Kamuna, where she attained a pseudo-form of immortality. There, she waited for ages, hoping that the key to changing Zipangu's fate would appear. During her investigation into the cause of the wave, Asia discovered a tome called the Acacia Chronicle - a book which recorded the entire history of Zipangu, including the lives of every citizen, through hyper-dimensional technology. She learned that the Acacia Chronicle only contained records of Zipangu citizens, with those who came from outside Zipangu, even borderline-superhuman heroes like the Guardians, being completely omitted, despite their actions and the consequences of those actions being recorded. Because of this, she learned that the Acacia Chronicle was malleable to a certain point, as the curse of Acacia would self-correct history in order to prevent the broad strokes of Zipangu's destiny from being changed. Realizing that only an outsider to Zipangu could change its destiny, Asia believed that the key to stopping the apocalypse would be a hero of Maple World, and so she began monitoring the journeys of several powerful people, hoping that one of them would be the key.

Mushroom Shrine Tales

Over the ages, legends about Asia spread across Zipangu, with many believing her to be a great being named Daidarabotchi. An evil Yokai named Genkou began coveting the power of the Five Elements, but as he could not safely extract their power, he instead planned to manipulate the shrine maiden of Mushroom Shrine, Kino Konoko, into gathering them for him, as her half-sister, Takeno Konoko, was a half-Yokai, whose bloodline allowed her to safely handle the Five Elements. As Takeno's mixed ancestry had given her a blood curse that severely weakened her, Genkou impersonated Daidarabotchi and began sending visions to Kino, claiming that gathering the Five Elements would cure her sister. Immediately believing that it was truly Daidarabotchi sending divine visions to her, Kino called a traveler from Maple World to the Mushroom Shrine and asked them to help her gather the Five Elements. After the traveler gathered the Five Elements, Genkou revealed himself and kidnapped Takeno, hoping to use her power to safely absorb the power of the Five Elements. The traveler, Kino, and their allies fought and defeated Genkou, though Takeno was killed during the ritual. As Kino mourned the loss of her sister, Asia used the power of the Five Elements to teleport the traveler, Kino, and Takeno's body to Kamuna. There, she introduced herself as the real Daidarabotchi and a Guardian of Zipangu. She revealed that she had been trapped outside the realm of Zipangu because the life force of Kamuna had been disrupted, preventing her from carrying out her duties as Guardian and stopping Genkou. When the traveler asked if there was anything that could be done to revive Takeno, Asia noted to herself that "that man" would have helped without giving a second thought. Believing that a power unused was no power at all, Asia declared that she would save Takeno by borrowing the power of the Five Elements and calling Takeno's spirit back from the Sanzu River, the river of the afterlife. With her divine power, Asia restored Takeno back to life by using the Five Elements to take the place of what had been lost. She then told the traveler that she would one day have need of someone as good-hearted as them and told them to cherish their time together, as she would call upon them to aid Zipangu when the time came.

Neo Tokyo

Soon after, Asia discovered a different traveler and, believing them to be the key to stopping Zipangu's doom, called them to Kamuna. She introduced herself as one of the three Guardians of Zipangu and told them about the fate of Zipangu's future, in which the powerful AI, the Blaze Core, had commanded the machines of Zipangu to rise up against its people. Using the Acacia Chronicle, she sent the traveler into the future to stop the Blaze Army from obtaining the Mastercore, a powerful item that the people of Zipangu needed to stop the Blaze Army. After the traveler aided Asia, a wave of temporal restoration from the Acacia Chronicle altered the future to account for the traveler's interference. Asia then sent them to stop the pilot of the Zipangu resistance's ultimate weapon from being killed. The traveler stopped the pilot from being killed and returned back to Asia, who noted that the enemies that they had encountered came from the future, meaning that the person attempting to accelerate Zipangu's destruction had powers on-par with the Guardians. She then sent the traveler to stop the Zipangu resistance from being wiped out by the Blaze Army. There, the traveler encountered Dunas, whose will had allowed him to project his spirit through Asia's time warp into the future.

After the traveler stopped Dunas, Asia told them about the powers of the Guardians, Ashray's plan to stop the wave, and her fallout with Dunas. Just then, she sensed Dunas attempting to break free from his seal with the power of Genkou, which she realized Dunas had stolen. After the traveler stopped Dunas' seal from breaking, they traveled into the future and stopped Nibelung from wiping out the resistance's airfleet. Asia then sent them to Shibuya, where Dunas was attempting to destroy the ultimate weapon. After the traveler stopped him, they learned that Dida, the pilot of the ultimate weapon, had a comatose sister whose life support was the Blaze Core, the AI directing the Blaze Army. Asia believed that Dunas had possessed Mareu, Dida's sister, in order to command the Blaze Core and accelerate Zipangu's destruction. Soon after, Asia sent the traveler into the future to stop the Blaze Core, after which they encountered Dunas and Ashray. Asia then warped into the future, where she told the traveler that they would need to contain the energy that Ashray would absorb into herself. After Ashray absorbed the energy, she was consumed by the angel of destruction, Aufheben, whom the traveler defeated. After the traveler stopped Aufheben, the destructive energies of Aufheben were converted into creation, allowing Zipangu to be destroyed, liberating it of the Acacia Chronicle's destiny, and then recreated, with Dunas using his power to repopulate the world after having a change of heart. With Dunas and Ashray reborn in the new world, Asia vowed to continue on as the last Guardian of Zipangu.

Asura Crisis

As Oda Nobunaga attempted to harvest mana from across Zipangu and Maple World for his Demon King ritual, his Spirit Walkers stole the power of the Five Elements from inside Takeno, after which Kino visited Asia and asked whether she could stop Oda. Asia explained that without the power of the Elements to sustain Zipangu, it was taking all of her strength just to protect the land from darkness. She instead suggested calling the Guardian of the Five Elements - the traveler who had stopped Genkou - adding that they were likely rallying with the Sengoku Warriors in order to prepare for the upcoming war. After the traveler stopped Oda's Demon King ritual, they met with Tsuchimikado Haruaki and Asia in Kamuna, where Asia explained that when they had halted Oda's Demon King ritual by coming in-between the maelstrom of mana during Princess Sakuno's battle with Oda Nobunaga, a portion of Sakuno's special mana had intermingled with the traveler, similar to how Oda had inherited a portion of her mana as well. Asia explained that the source of the mana was a mystery, with only a few being chosen to wield it. She revealed that the mana would sometimes take a physical form that many would covet, containing power that defied the laws of time and space, such that it could move things even as large as continents throughout spacetime. She told the traveler that Oda had obtained some of Sakuno's mana after the first failed Demon King ritual, which was why he hadn't needed a sacrifice to initiate his second ritual. However, she revealed that Oda had managed to transfer at least half of the Demon King's power into himself before the second ritual had been interrupted, and that the traveler - having that special mana inside them - was now a second target alongside Sakuno for Oda to use as a sacrifice in his next ritual.

Story (Pre-Remaster)

Guardians of Zipangu

Centuries before the present day, Asia was a child who grew up in Zipangu. She, along with two other children named Ashray and Dunas, learned black magic from the Black Mage. Each of the three children learned a unique power, with Asia having immortality, Ashray having time travel, and Dunas having reincarnation. The three then became the Guardians of Zipangu and used their powers to help the land achieve unprecedented prosperity, during which time, Ashray and Dunas became lovers. Eventually, however, Ashray learned that Zipangu was fated to be destroyed in a cataclysm known as the Distortion, a ball of energy that would swallow Zipangu whole. In order to stop it, Ashray asked Asia to swap powers, though Asia refused, as she believed that Ashray merely wanted the power of immortality so that she could live with Dunas, her lover, forever. Ashray then used her power to travel into the future, where she spent thousands of years fighting the Army of Blaze - machines controlled by a powerful AI called Blaze Core, which sought to wipe out humanity. Asia and Ashray then swapped powers, after which Ashray absorbed the energy into her body, though she was ultimately unable to contain it within herself, resulting in it bursting out and destroying Zipangu. Ashray and Asia then wandered the ruins of Zipangu, where they discovered the Acacia Chronicle, which documented the entire history of Zipangu. Ashray then had the last-resort idea of changing the past in order to stop the Distortion from having happened in the first place. Knowing that only one of them could travel back in time, she asked Asia to use the power of time travel to go back and alter Zipangu's history. Asia reluctantly agreed and leapt back in time, leaving Ashray stranded in the ruined Zipangu. Asia then used the Acacia Chronicle to help her influence the events of Zipangu and avert the Distortion from taking place.

Dunas' Plan

When Dunas learned that his lover was trapped in a purgatory timeline with no way out, he vowed that he would free her from her prison. He began manipulating the future by undoing Asia's actions to stop the apocalypse, ensuring that their timeline would branch into the future in which Ashray remained trapped. Asia stopped Dunas by trapping his spirit, which inhabited a creature, and freezing time in Kamuna, where both she and Dunas remained immortal, thereby preventing Dunas from dying and reincarnating. Nevertheless, Dunas' strong will allowed him to project his spirit out from his seal. Using Asia's time warp to leap into the future, Dunas possessed Mareu, the daughter of the creator of a powerful AI named Blaze Core. Using Mareu, he commanded Blaze Core into ordering the machines to turn on the people of Zipangu and trigger the Distortion. Asia stood against him and eventually recruited a traveler of Maple World into helping her stop Dunas. As the traveler attempted to remedy the timeline, Dunas continued interfering in order to thwart their efforts. In a last-ditch attempt at ensuring that the Distortion would take place, Dunas summoned a powerful being called Aufheben, who began destroying the world.

The Final Enemy

As Zipangu began to fall apart, their timeline branched into the purgatory timeline in which Ashray was trapped. From the dimensional crack of their two timelines fusing, Ashray emerged and reunited with Dunas, whom she brought with her into her timeline. After the traveler stopped Aufheben and averted the Distortion, the dimensional crack closed, trapping Ashray and Dunas in the purgatory timeline. Asia then vowed to find a way to free Ashray and Dunas.
