Antellion
The Antellion is a large crystalline stone, capable of producing infinite energy and allowing its wielder to travel across space and time.
Story (Post-Remaster)
The lore regarding the Antellion was remastered in the Masteria Through Time Update.
History
The Antellion was created well over a thousand years ago through the sacrifice of the greatest heroes of Versal, in the hope of protecting their world from the chaos that threatened it. As an infinite energy source, the wielder of the Antellion would be the victor of all conflicts, having the final say in ending wars. The most powerful warrior of Versal was chosen as the Antellion's guardian, tasked with the responsibility of protecting it from those who sought to claim it for themselves. The Antellion's power was shared equally amongst all the people of Versal, allowing them to benefit from its guiding light. However, this resulted in a dilution of its power after being spread so thin, and so many hoped to steal the Antellion in order to increase their share of the power. Christopher Crimsonheart was the last guardian of the Antellion, renowned as Versal's greatest warrior. He and his Grandmasters would use the Antellion to travel to different worlds across different time periods in order to help other civilizations. These missions often resulted in him being away for long stretches of time, during which thieves would often attempt to steal the Antellion. During one such occasion, Crimsonheart's wife, Glona, sacrificed her life to protect the Antellion. Crimsonheart's son, Naricain, blamed his father for being away and swore to seize control of the Antellion in order to force total obedience from Versal in order to ensure that such tragedies would never again occur/
Naricain's ambitions eventually culminated in him stealing a fragment of the Antellion - an act which had never been done in the history of Versal. Realizing that the Antellion was unsafe on Versal, Crimsonheart, his son Subani, and the Grandmasters relocated to Maple World and built Crimsonwood Keep on the continent of Krakia in order to hide it from Naricain. Eventually, however, Naricain discovered the location of the Antellion and used his fragment to travel to Maple World. With the help of a woman named Dr. Jang, who had traveled back to the past with the Antellion fragment of the future, Naricain waged a war against Crimsonheart in order to claim the Antellion. However, with the help of a traveler who had also gone back in time, Dr. Jang was killed and Naricain was sealed away in a dimension beyond space and time by Crimsonheart. Believing that it was too dangerous to let the Antellion remain, Crimsonheart decided to sacrifice himself in order to destroy it. Before he did so, he tasked Grandmaster Lukan with traveling back to the future, where Naricain's Antellion fragment still persisted, in order to become its new protector. After sending Lukan and the traveler back to the future, Crimsonheart destroyed the Antellion, causing the continent to sink beneath the ocean. Despite his sacrifice however, Krakia was eventually brought back after a man named Icebyrd Slimm made a deal with a mysterious voice that claimed to be Subani, after which he had renamed the continent 'Masteria' and build New Leaf City atop it. After returning back to the present, Lukan and the traveler parted ways, with Lukan setting off in exile to keep the last surviving Antellion fragment safe.
During this time, Lukan frequently heard the voices of Naricain and Subani berating him and attempting to convince him to abandon his duties. He also began pondering on several inconsistencies between his memories of the confrontation between Crimsonheart and Naricain and the way in which they had been changed through their actions in time-traveling. In his original memories, Naricain had killed Crimsonheart, after which Subani had sacrificed himself to seal away Naricain and the Grandmasters had destroyed the Antellion, which had caused them to be thrown to different points of space and time. However, Lukan realized that he had never met his past self while traveling back in time. Furthermore, people from the present still remembered Dr. Jang, which shouldn't have been possible if she had died in the past, and thus would have never been born. Soon after, the followers of Naricain traveled from Versal to Maple World in order to claim the Antellion fragment. They managed to overpower Lukan and stole the fragment, which they then attempted to use in order to revive Naricain. However, they were stopped by the traveler and the knights of Afinas. Later on, Lukan revealed to the traveler that after pondering the inconsistencies between his memories and reality, he concluded that it was the Antellion itself who had overwritten his memories with false events in order to manipulate them into traveling back in time. Furthermore, he also concluded that Dr. Jang had been led to the Antellion fragment by the Antellion itself, rather than having spoken with Naricain. Lukan hypothesized that the Antellion was acting of its own will in order to return to Versal.
Properties
There are two main properties of the Antellion. Its first property is that it is capable of serving as an infinite energy source. The Antellion was used for generations as a power source to Versal, keeping the world in balance through its light. However, despite its limitless energy, it appears that one limitation to the Antellion is that its power dilutes the more spread out it becomes. An example of this can be seen on Versal, in which its people only received a fractional share of power after it was shared equally to every citizen, resulting in many attempting to steal the entire stone for itself. The second property of the Antellion is that it allows the user to travel to any point in spacetime, which was frequently used by the Grandmasters to help other worlds. It appears that this power remains just as effective should it be broken into fragments, as Naricain was able to use his fragment to travel to Maple World, while Dr. Jang used it to power her Time Portal. Because the Antellion exists outside the laws of spacetime, each fragment exists independently of causal loops. This was seen when Naricain's fragment of the Antellion still existed in the present, despite having been destroyed in the past by Crimsonheart. The Antellion also appears to have a will of its own, having manipulated Dr. Jang and Lukan into traveling back to the past in order to shape current events. It is capable of manifesting as other people, such as when it posed as Subani to Icebyrd Slimm, or when it posed as Naricain before Dr. Jang. The Antellion's current objective is to return back to Versal.
Creation
It remains unknown how the Antellion was precisely created, aside from having been said to have been born out of the sacrifice of Versal's greatest heroes. Despite this, there are two known occurrences of the Antellion's unique properties manifesting. The first example of this is Lianium, a special ore created through the coagulation of a specific trace mineral of Versal. According to Elpam Gorlab's research, the substance known as Naricain's Blood, which was created by Dr. Jang in order to corrupt the native Krakians, contained a trace mineral on Versal which was absent on Maple World. He hypothesized that over the course of centuries, the mineral accumulated over time through corrupted species predating on each other, eventually forming Lianium, which had traces of the Antellion's energy. Though Lianium is likely unable to directly transform into Antellion, there remains a significant connection between the two. The second example is a special type of mana which only exists in certain individuals. According to Asia, this mana can sometimes take on a physical form coveted by many, capable of transporting objects even large as continents across space and time. There is a strong implication that this physical object is the Antellion. The Matsuyama clan of Hinomaru was said to have this special mana run in their bloodline. Because of the vast font of this mana inside Princess Sakuno, Oda Nobunaga kidnapped her in order to open a link to the Demon Realm and become the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven. This ability to open a portal to other worlds likely stems from the unique properties of the special mana that bear resemblance to the Antellion's ability to transcend spacetime. It may be possible that the heroes of Versal who had been sacrificed to create the Antellion possessed this special type of mana, which coagulated into the immense Antellion crystal that became the treasure of Versal.
Story (Pre-Remaster)
Not much is known about the Antellion in the old lore of Masteria, including its appearance. Christopher Crimsonheart and the Grandmasters were sworn to protect it, deriving great strength from its power. Through the Antellion, the Grandmasters were able to power Crimsonwood Keep, open portals to other dimensions for training, and imbue certain warriors with incredible power. Though Crimsonheart was the one who had understood the Antellion the best, and though he had vanished long ago, knowledge of certain ways to use the Antellion had been passed down through the ages. Eventually, the master Elite Mage Ridley, had been granted permission to study the Antellion and create artifacts that would be useful to the Keep, of which the Sigils - which were capable of teleporting users around the Keep - were some of the most notable. The Antellion Guard was a special group set up to protect the Antellion. Though little about them is known, the Antellion Guard wore special helmets called Antellion Miters, which extended the wearer's lifeforce and magical power. The Twisted Masters in present-day Crimsonwood Keep were seeking the Antellion and believed that Crimsonheart's gravestone in the MesoGears was the key to finding it. The Alchemist also sought the Antellion on Naricain's orders, as it was one of the two items necessary to restore his world.
