Enki is the Ancient God of Identisk, the Island of Summer and Winter.

Story

The Ancient War

In the beginning, the Primordial God made 365 creations - the sun, the moon, the stones, the trees, the wind, the rivers, the seas, and countless others - each adhering to 365 laws that governed the universe. From these 365 creations that made up the world, powerful beings were brought into existence that embodied these natural laws, including Enki.

Enki was an otter-like god who protected the otters of Identisk - the Island of Summer and Winter. Enki was worshiped by the residents of Identisk, and in turn, he bestowed his divine blessings to them with his holy relic - a lighthouse statue.

Eventually, the Primordial God - unable to abide the chaos in the universe - created the Overseers to establish order in the universe. To this end, the Overseers tasked the elders of Grandis with creating beings known as the Adversaries. Imbued with the divine power of relics known as the Godspheres, the Adversaries began a war to defeat the Ancient Gods.

After a fierce struggle, the Adversaries successfully defeated the Ancient Gods. Following the end of the war, the Overseers created the Transcendents in order to suppress the Ancient Gods, who all fell into dormancy - including Enki - with the sole exception of Shinsoo. Following this, the Overseers separated the three worlds - Maple World, Grandis, and Tynerum - into different dimensions.

As a result, Identisk was split apart into two islands, with Iden - the Island of Winter - separated into Maple World, and Tisk - the Island of summer - separated into Grandis. Over the ages, the otters of Identisk evolved into different appearances, with the residents of Iden having white fur, and the residents of Tisk having brown fur.

Over time, the otters gradually lost record of who their Ancient God was. Because of this, each island created a generic humanoid statue of a goddess in order to represent their unknown god. The otters began worshiping these statues, which gradually developed weak magical imitations of Enki's blessings - the Blessing of Sunlight for Iden and the Blessing of Wind for Tisk.

The Blessing of Sunlight generated warmth for Iden, whose residents were able to survive the eternal winter of their home as a result, with the Blessing of Wind providing similar protection to residents of Tisk and its eternal summer. Generations later, the otters would come to believe that those man-made blessings were actually the blessings of their Ancient God, passed down for generations.

Reawakening of the Gods

Shortly after the death of the Black Mage - the last Transcendent of Maple World - Maple World and Grandis fused back into one, just as they had been during the age of the gods. With their convergence, the Ancient Gods began reawakening in the absence of the Transcendents, including Enki. Additionally, the islands of Iden and Tisk converged from the ends of their world back into Identisk at the meeting point between Maple World and Grandis.

Following the fusion of Identisk, the otters of Iden and Tisk began learning about each other's history and realized that their people had once lived together on Identisk under the protection of their Ancient God. As the otters began coexisting peacefully, archeologists from Maple World began traveling to Idnetisk in order to learn more about the Ancient Gods. Additionally, the Seekers of Grandis - those who chased after the relics of the Ancient Gods - arrived on Identisk to learn more about Identisk's god.

Theft of the Blessings

During this time, Enki began watching the otters from afar, disguising his identity as an Ancient God and pretending to be a normal otter. Soon enough, Enki learned that Gerand Darmoor was seeking to take the power of the Ancient Gods for himself. Fearing that Identisk would become a target if Darmoor were to learn that it held traces of the gods, Enki chose not to restore his true divine blessings to the island, hoping that Darmoor's agents would simply take the false, man-made blessings and conclude that there was nothing else on the island worth taking.

Soon after, Avril - a High Flora officer who served under Havoc - snuck aboard the ship which brought the Seekers. With the Apostles being tasked by Gerand Darmoor to steal the power of the Ancient Gods in draining crystals, Avril - on Havoc's orders - arrived at Identisk and inspected the Blessings of Sunlight and Wind. However, Avril noted that the power of the blessings were extremely weak, for which she realized that she would not even need a draining crystal to take them. Avril then stole the Blessings of Wind and Sunlight and retreated, just as Enki had hoped.

Restoring the Blessing of Sunlight

Learning about the existence of Identisk, a traveler arrived at the island and began working with the residents of Iden, who were struggling to find a way to restore the Blessing of Sunlight. Believing that making offerings to the Ancient God would help, the residents of Iden began catching fish to offer as sacrifice to their god, fighting against the Sol Erda monsters which had appeared with the fusion of Maple World and Grandis.

In order to help their brethren, the residents of Tisk began praying to the Ancient God, hoping that their efforts would restore the Blessing of Sunlight. As the traveler helped the otters restore their blessing, Enki watched their actions from afar. When a resident of Iden named Okya fell sick from the cold without the Blessing of Sunlight, Enki appeared and anonymously used his powers to cure Okya.

The traveler, at the behest of the residents of Iden, began searching for their mysterious benefactor and eventually found Enki at the top of a large cliffside. Enki was surprised to find that the traveler had climbed so high up, and he was even more surprised to know that the otters had wanted to give him a gift of thanks, as he had simply been doing the right thing. Nevertheless, he accepted the gift graciously and explained that he was happy to know that the residents still remembered him after ages.

Soon after, the residents' devotion to the Ancient God statue which they had made allowed them to restore the man-made Blessing of Sunlight to the island. However, the otters mistakenly came to believe that it was actually the Ancient God who had restored their blessing in appreciation of their offerings and worship.

Restoring the Blessing of Wind

With the Blessing of Sunlight restored, the residents of Tisk began wondering where their blessing had gone. Realizing that the Seekers had appeared not long before the theft of the blessings, the otters asked the traveler to speak with Baz, the leader of the Seekers. However, Baz denied being responsible for taking the blessings, claiming that he and the other Seekers merely sought to learn more about the Ancient Gods, not to steal their power.

As the Tisk residents continued praying and securing offerings for the Ancient God by fighting the Sol Erda, the traveler continued investigating the missing blessing. With the Tisk residents refusing to believe that their neighbors in Iden had stolen it, the traveler worked with Baz, who offered to help investigate the stolen blessing in order to prove the Seekers' innocence.

The Seekers' investigation led them to realize that the two goddess statues in Iden and Tisk had been made after the age of the gods had ended, causing them to doubt whether they were valid. The traveler worked with an Iden scholar named Obin, who took them to a cave that depicted the ancient otters worshiping a large figure, which he believed to be the Ancient God.

Obin explained that the otters had no idea what the Ancient God had looked like, for which they had created their goddess statues in imitation of the towering presence of their god. With this information, the Seekers continued investigating and concluded that there was no trace of Identisk's Ancient God at all. Baz explained that the Blessings of Sunlight and Wind were man-made, created from a basic form of magic that occurred whenever many people prayed to a certain being, which had consolidated their powers into an imitation blessing when targeted to the goddess statues.

Baz also theorized that the reason why the blessings had disappeared was because the convergence of Maple World and Grandis had created the Sol Erda, whose power had dispersed the weak blessing spells. Though Baz believed that the Seekers' investigation was enough to clear their name, the reluctant traveler reported their findings to Chief Tomo of Tisk, who reaffirmed his belief that the Ancient God of Identisk was definitely with them.

The Ancient God's Blessing Returns

Shortly after, the collective devotion of the otters recreated the Blessing of Wind on Tisk. Enki then arrived and met with the traveler, who remained doubtful about the blessing's return. Enki surprised the traveler by revealing that he already knew that the blessing was fake. Enki then told the traveler that if the blessing was fake, then all they needed to do was to create a real one, explaining that a lie becoming the truth would make everyone happy.

As the residents of Identisk came together as one, they began wondering whether their island would be okay, as it was in the middle of Maple World and Grandis, which would be the center of travel between worlds. Enki then appeared and told them that everything would be fine, after which he used his powers to restore the true divine blessing at the lighthouse statue in the center of Identisk.

The residents began rejoicing, with Obin realizing that the large figure on the mural wasn't the Ancient God, but the lighthouse statue. The traveler then met with Enki at the top of the cliff, where Enki revealed himself to be the Ancient God of Identisk, though he swore the traveler to secrecy. He then revealed that someone was attempting to steal the power of the gods, which was why he had allowed the intruders to steal the man-made blessings in order to make them believe that there were no traces of the Ancient God, which would keep the residents of Identisk safe.

Enki then told the traveler that he was planning to leave Identisk for everyone's safety, though he had made arrangements to ensure that the Sunlight and Wind Blessings, as well as the light of the lighthouse, would remain forever, with the island itself also being protected from splitting apart ever again. He then thanked the traveler for all their help before taking his leave.
