Your days are numbered, Adversary. And that 'World Heart' of yours? Big disappointment. That Celestial put up a half-decent fight. Next time, I'll expect the same from you.

― Havoc

Havoc is a pure-blooded demon and an Apostle of Gerand Darmoor. Known as the First Apostle and the Apostle of Lightning, Havoc led the High Flora army to lay siege to Cernium until he was defeated by Seren. Following the battle of Cernium, Havoc - alongside the other Apostles - led raids across Maple World and Grandis to steal the power of the Ancient Gods.

Story

The First Apostle

At some unknown point, Havoc left Tynerum, the homeland of the demon race, and arrived in Grandis, where he would swear loyalty to Gerand Darmoor and become his First Apostle, also known as the Apostle of Lightning, due to his demonic ability to shoot down devastating red lightning from the sky.

High Mountain

Several years before the battle of Cernium, Havoc was dispatched to lay waste on High Mountain, the homeland of the Celestials. Havoc's attack nearly wiped out the Celestials, leaving Gilmore, Seren, and Roland as the sole survivors. Seren brought Azor, the Holy Sword of Mitra, to Cernium alone, while Roland lost his faith in Mitra and joined a band of heretics called Ebonstar. Meanwhile, Gilmore joined forces with Havoc in a bid to regain his Celestial powers, which his race had lost after the fall of the Ancient Gods. Gilmore then underwent experiments to be filled with countless Specter souls, which transformed him into a special Specter capable of tricking holy relics of the Ancient Gods into awakening for him.

Battle of Cernium

Shortly after the battle of Tenebris, Darmoor ordered Havoc to attack the city of Cernium, disappearing from Aboris soon afterwards. Havoc and his aide, Avril, took advantage of the turbulent political climate of Cernium and allied with Ebonstar to cause chaos in the city. Roland and the other members of Ebonstar stole caches of black powder from the Fire Priests and holy water from the Dawn Priests in order to create a highly explosive compound, with which they planned to destroy the temples of Nerota and Spisa in order to incite a civil war between the different factions of Cernium. Though they succeeded in destroying the temples, the efforts of Seren, the Adversary, and the Alliance helped the people of Cernium drive out Ebonstar and the High Flora army. As the fighting continued, Avril met with Havoc at the Flora camp and asked him why he had ordered a retreat when he had the enemy backed into a corner. Havoc told her that they would have broken through if they had been able to, but the Adversary's prowess had made it impossible.

Knowing that the Adversary was capable of destroying a Transcendent, he told Avril that throwing more troops at them would be foolish Avril reminded him that the power of the Adversary was different from pure strength, as even the death of the Black Mage had been because he had wanted to die. However, Havoc snapped that he didn't care how the Adversary had won, only that they were a threat to him. He then asked if she thought that she could take them on herself, to which Avril stammered that it wasn't what she had meant, causing Havoc to smirk in satisfaction. He told her that no matter how much she disagreed, he didn't want to provoke the Adversary and reminded her that they needed to focus on what Darmoor wanted. He then cursed Darmoor, wondering where he had gone and what he was doing, and called him a coward who had incited a war and then left him to do the dirty work. Avril warned him to watch his mouth, as calling Darmoor a coward was something that he might live to regret.

In order to remove the Adversary as a factor, Havoc requested an audience with Prince Carlisle at the royal palace, where he offered withdraw his forces from Cernium in exchange for the Adversary.[5][6] Carlisle immediately refused, but Havoc laughed and told him to think carefully, explaining that he held a valuable hostage before showing them the emblem of the Chosen One. He then raised the deal and told Carlisle that in exchange for the Adversary, he would not only leave Cernium alone, but he would also give back the Chosen One. Carlisle once again refused, but the Grand Master stepped forward and asked Havoc to give his word that he would stand down after the exchange, shocking Carlisle and the others. Havoc laughed and told them that he trusted that they would make the right choice before leaving.

That night, the Adversary and Seren led a mission to rescue the Chosen One, leading them to discover that the Chosen One was Gilmore, who had allied himself with Havoc in order to regain his powers. When Gilmore attempted to attack Seren and the others, the Adversary and the Glory Guard fought back against Gilmore, forcing him to create a protective shield around himself with his Specter powers. Soon after, Havoc and Avril returned to the camp, where they found Gilmore still within the protective shield. Havoc laughed at the sorry state that he was in as Gilmore dropped the shield down. Gilmore angrily claimed that he would bring the sun's fury upon Havoc after taking up Azor, though Havoc merely scoffed at his words.

Avril then asked what their next move was, to which Havoc replied that he was bored of waiting, and that he had decided to have their forces attack. Avril warned that he was wasting their forces, and that it would be better to starve the enemy out. However, Havoc reassured her that he would be dealing with the enemy personally and claimed that their faith wouldn't save them from him, just as he awakened his demon powers and transformed into his pure-blooded demon form. Havoc then ordered his forces to invade Cernium, as well as to eliminate Edea, who had grown close to discovering the truth about the source of Gilmore's powers. In the air, Havoc used his powers to rain down powerful red lightning bolts precisely struck down to avoid the Flora soldiers and instead target all of Cernium and the Alliance's foot soldiers, instantly vaporizing them.[7] As Havoc continued to turn the tide against the Alliance, Seren defeated Gilmore and awakened the holy sword Azor, awakening as Mitra's Chosen One. Seren then took up Azor, which glowed brightly and filled her with the divine power of the sun. Spreading her wings, she took to the skies and engaged in a colossal battle against Havoc. Their glowing figures clashed in the sky, with red lightning on one side of the sky and sunlight breaking through the clouds on the other. Because of Seren, Havoc ceased his lightning attacks on the city, giving the united people of Cernium and the Alliance the opening that they needed to turn the tides on the Flora army. Havoc was soon defeated by Seren, causing him to crash down violently from the sky. With the Apostle of Lightning defeated, the Flora army was successfully repelled from the city.[8]

Invasion of Maple World and Grandis

Several months after the battle of Cernium, Hawkeye and the Thunder Breakers continued their investigation into Havoc. Though the political unrest in Cernium made investigation difficult, Hawkeye concluded that Havoc had to be alive because of their inability to find a body. Soon after Kaling was dispatched to Shangri-La in order to recover the World Heart, a meeting was held at the Aboris Royal Palace between Darmoor and his Apostles, which was attended by Havoc. There, Ypsilon reported that he had captured and interrogated a Cygnus Knight by extracting their memories. In those memories, he had witnessed the battle of Tenebris, in which Empress Cygnus had used her partially-awakened Transcendent powers in order to shield the fleet from Gloom's attack. Additionally, he had also seen memories of Shinsoo, which revealed that she was an Ancient God. Realizing that Cygnus was a Transcendent-in-waiting, Darmoor ordered Reina to invade Maple World and extract her powers. Meanwhile, Darmoor ordered his remaining Apostles to conduct raids across Grandis in order to steal the power of all the Ancient Gods whose locations were known by the High Flora. For this purpose, Havoc conducted operations to steal the power of countless gods in draining crystals.

Soon after, Havoc was dispatched by Darmoor to reinforce Limbo at Carcion. Havoc arrived to find that Limbo, rather than using the draining crystal to take the power of the Ancient God Keira, had instead absorbed Keira directly into himself in order to experience the power of a god for himself momentarily. However, Limbo was quickly defeated by the Alliance, who had forced him to release Keira from him. As Eckhart moved to secure Limbo, Havoc shot down a flash of red lightning from the sky, forcing Eckhart to jump back. In another flash of lightning, Havoc landed in front of Limbo, causing the Adversary to immediately recognize him from Cernium. Havoc looked down at Limbo and noted that the Alliance had done quite a number on him. He added that Limbo should have used the crystal right away, and that he was going to lose his job at this rate.

Limbo was overjoyed to see Havoc, laughing that Darmoor had indeed been watching over him after all. He immediately began groveling, begging Havoc to save him quickly. However, Havoc gruffly asked Limbo how he could shamelessly ask to be rescued when he hadn't even finished doing the job that he had been sent for. Havoc then launched into the air and began raining down red lightning from the sky, injuring everyone in the vicinity. Though the Adversary attempted to move, they found that their body would not respond to them, causing them to wonder whether it was because of the World Heart. With the Adversary rooted in one spot and everyone else injured, Havoc landed back on the ground and took out the draining crystal, which he used to begin extracting Keira's power. As he did, he began complaining that his mission was such a hassle and wondered how many more gods he was going to have to eliminate.

As Keira's power continued being absorbed into the crystal, Gaon vowed that he wouldn't allow Havoc to finish. With Keira's divine power inside his spear, Gaon created a protective barrier around the goddess, shielding her from the effects of the crystal. Havoc noted with mild interest that Gaon had managed to create a shield, though he declared that it didn't matter, as he had already filled the crystal, with the empty shell of a god meaning nothing to him. He then manifested his demon wings in a flash of red energy, preparing to take off with Limbo.[9] As Havoc began to leave, he looked back at the Adversary with disdain and noted that they seemed to have a lot to say for someone who was barely alive. He explained that he had been looking forward to what they would be like, now that they had gotten their hands on the World Heart, but he added that after seeing them again, they were nothing more than a disappointment. He then asked them to be more entertaining in the future, even more so than Seren, whom he simply called ‘that Celestial', adding that he would see them again before leaving with Limbo slumped on his shoulders.

Havoc then escorted Limbo to Aboris, where they finished giving their report on the mission to Carcion. Darmoor was interested to know that the Adversary had managed to consciously use the World Heart, to which Havoc added that the Adversary had also made a mess of Limbo. Alarmed by how Darmoor would take it, Limbo began fearfully stammering that he hadn't planned on it, swearing that it wouldn't happen ever again. However, Darmoor cut Limbo off and assured him that he wasn't disappointed in him. He then explained that it was time, noting that he could hear the prayers meant for the false gods. He then ordered the Apostles to bring them to him, declaring that he would bring forth a true paradise. From his throne, Darmoor held up a draining crystal, with many others floating throughout the room, filled with the power of countless other gods.

Morning Star Banquet

Following the battle of Tallahart, Havoc and the other Apostles were summoned to Aboris to attend the Morning Star Banquet, where Darmoor dispatched the Apostle Ressa to convey his orders. After Reina arrived somewhat late, Ressa greeted her and noted that it had been a while, adding that her arrival meant that everyone was now here. Limbo snidely remarked on Reina's tardiness, noting that she seemed quite arrogant just for having successfully completed a single mission. Reina coolly retorted that it was better than failing a mission, causing Limbo to fume in embarrassment. Ypsilon then asked whether none of the other Apostles were coming, to which Ressa explained that the others regrettably couldn't attend, as they were busy with their own missions. Havoc demanded to know why Asha and Darmoor weren't coming, noting how ridiculous the situation was. At Havoc's insolent outburst, Ypsilon immediately gave him an austere look as Baldrix warned him to speak about the God-King with respect. Havoc grinned and noted that he had always wanted to fight Baldrix and wondered whether he should do it now before laughing and claiming that it had just been a joke, though he warned Baldrix to be careful.

Ressa then defused the situation by explaining that since the God-King didn't attend such banquets, he – as the God-King's messenger – had come in Darmoor's stead. At Ressa's words, Havoc asked why the God-King had summoned the Apostles to a New Year's banquet that he himself wasn't even attending, noting that Darmoor must have something important to convey. Upon seeing Limbo's discomfort at Darmoor's absence, Ressa laughed and assured him that he didn't think that Darmoor would blame him for his failure at Carcion. Limbo laughed sheepishly and noted that the God-King was merciful as expected, to which Ypsilon cut in and replied that he had no time for useless discussion before demanding to know what Darmoor wished to convey. Baldrix then revealed that it was time to accelerate the great plan, to which a surprised Reina and Ypsilon asked whether Darmoor intended to begin the great culling even sooner. Ressa replied that since the Vessel was being completed faster than anticipated, there was no need to delay any further. He added that it was all Darmoor's will, and that he had come to convey the God-King's next orders.

During the banquet, the Adversary - who had disguised themselves and infiltrated the event - began monitoring Havoc, watching him speak with Avril. Avril asked Havoc whether the meeting had gone well, to which Havoc scoffed and retorted that it could hardly be called a meeting so much as an order being passed down as usual. Avril noted that he seemed rather pleased about it regardless, to which he admitted that the order wasn't bad, and that it was actually quite fun. He explained that as someone who hailed from a world on the precipice of annihilation, he couldn't understand Darmoor's reasoning behind his orders, though he added that since Grandis wasn't his world, he couldn't care less about it. At Havoc's word, Avril admitted that she was worried about what kind of mission it was, to which Havoc promised her that he would give her the results that they deserved.

As this scene was never used in the game, its canonicity is dubious.
  9. The Demon gets some exclusive dialogue here. Upon seeing Havoc's wings, the Demon realizes that Havoc really is a pure-blooded demon and wonders how that could be possible. Havoc asks the Demon why he looks so surprised and sarcastically asks him whether it's his first time seeing a pure-blooded demon. As Havoc prepares to leave, the Demon tells him to wait, to which Havoc tells the Demon that if he really is a demon, then he should prove it by showing his strength.
