Elwin is a Barrier Master and an apprentice of Grendel the Really Old.

Story

FriendStory: Prologue

While using his powers, Elwin inadvertently opened a dimensional rift between Maple World and Friends World. From the other world emerged a student, who quickly grew intrigued by Maple World and refused to leave. With no other choice, Elwin sent a cell phone to a traveler and invited them to the Closet House in Henesys.

Elwin convinced the traveler to cover for the student from Friends World while they explored Maple World. After the traveler agreed, Elwin sent them to Friends World and warned them not to use their powers. During the traveler's adventures, however, they fought and defeated a Troublemaker monster. Elwin then called and asked them to return to the Closet House, where Grendel the Really Old was waiting them.

Grendel explained that Friends World was a parallel dimension full of the same people from Maple World who led completely different lives. He also added that the great magicians of Maple World had been aware of the parallel universe for some time, though they had never opened a portal there before.

Though Elwin was pleased to know that he had managed to open a portal somewhere that even the greatest magicians hadn’t, Grendel berated him, claiming that opening the portal had allowed the two worlds to affect each other, possibly in disastrous ways.

Elwin suggested that they return the transfer student back home, but Grendel told him that the evil energies of Maple World had already affected the parallel universe. He then summoned Lily, a Manipulation Magician and Elwin's younger sister, and tasked both siblings with aiding the traveler in defeating the monsters on Friends World.

FriendStory: Cygnus and the New Kid

Shortly after the traveler enrolled as a transfer student, Elwin met them at the front gate in his dog form and warned them not to stand out with their powers while he investigated where the monsters were coming from. While wandering the city with Cygnus, the traveler encountered Elwin in dog form, who asked them to take care of several Motes that had appeared. After the traveler defeated the monsters, Elwin warned them that someone might be targeting Cygnus, as he had overheard a voice vowing to get revenge on her.

While attempting to collect student records on a Hoodlum, the traveler encountered Elwin in dog form in the staff room, who told them that the Motes had stolen the records.

FriendStory: Orchid and the Stalker

Soon after, the traveler attempted to get a fingerprinting kit for Oz and arrived at the science lab, where Elwin met them and explained that they could obtain it from the Motes. Later on, Elwin also appeared in the library and the infirmary, where he asked the traveler to defeat the Motes that had swarmed and stolen objects that the traveler needed. Some time later, Elwin rushed to the school roof upon feeling a gathering of dark energy, where he warned the traveler that Francis' emotions were creating a Troublemaker, which the traveler defeated.

FriendStory: Hilla and Magnus Sittin' in a Tree

While attempting to collect bottles of Flu Virus, the traveler met Elwin, who told them that the Motes had stolen the bottles and asked them to defeat the monsters. Elwin later called the traveler after Francis fainted in the science lab and explained that the Motes had been responsible for it, after which they defeated the monsters.

While investigating rumors of a ghost in the music room, the traveler encountered Elwin in dog form, who told them that the Motes were likely responsible for creating the strange noises. Soon after, Elwin called the student after hearing baby cries in the old student building, though he ran away in fear by the time that they arrived.

FriendStory: Students in Crisis

When the White Mage began working as a student teacher, many students began falling in love with him and chaos began overtaking the school. Because of his influence, many boys began turning into squids after the girls began calling them such when compared to the White Mage. Elwin soon called and told the traveler that the situation with the White Mage had gotten well out of control, as things like people transforming into squids didn’t normally happen in Friends World.

Elwin explained that he had detected a massive surge in dark energy, which had enveloped the entire school, adding that it had gone far beyond simple Motes or even Troublemakers. He believed that it was the reason why the squid transformations were happening, and why no one seemed to realize that it was anything more than casually odd. While he contacted Grendel, Elwin told the traveler to stay alert in order to determine the source of darkness.

Soon after, Elwin called the traveler to the library, where he explained that an unprecedented three Dust Zones had appeared at once, adding that he feared that the students’ love for the White Mage was destroying the fabric of reality. At his behest, the traveler defeated the Motes and cleared the three Dust Zones.

After the White Mage's time as a student teacher ended, Elwin and Lily returned back to Maple World and told the traveler to return when they were ready. The traveler later received a call from the White Mage, who revealed to them that he was the one who had unlocked the barrier between their dimensions for Elwin to open.

FriendStory: Damien and the Spirit of Rock

Soon after Damien transferred into Shinsoo International School, many people were infected with the disease of rock and roll. Elwin met the traveler and informed them about what was happening, adding that he believed Damien to be responsible. Soon after, Elwin told the traveler that special Motes were being spawned from the infected students, and that destroying them normally might harm the students. He then gave them a special musical weapon made by Grendel in order to safely vaporize the Motes.

At the battle of the bands, Lily and Elwin used their magic to blind the audience when Damien's emotions inadvertently summoned a Troublemaker, allowing the traveler to defeat it.

Convergence: Fusion of Worlds

After the battle of Tenebris, Lily and Elwin grew increasingly worried as Grendel grew obsessed over Gloom's core fragment, which had allowed him to sympathize with the Black Mage after seeing the countless futures that led to despair. Grendel visited Will, who was being held captive in Ereve, and confronted him about the Black Mage's plans. Will gave Grendel a second core fragment, which allowed him to view the Black Mage's thoughts.

Soon after Grendel disappeared, Neinheart summoned Lily and Elwin, who accompanied the Adversary in order to follow Grendel. Elwin opened a dimensional portal, allowing them to follow Grendel to Lachelein, where they learned through watching Grendel that the Black Mage had intended to lose from the beginning. Soon after, they ran into Protective Mask, who revealed that Lucid had created him to save her from her nightmare. He then entered Lucid's nightmare and rescued her, revealing himself as a projection of Mercedes.

The group then continued on to Morass, where they saw Grendel speaking to an echo of the White Mage. he Adversary was surprised to see the White Mage, as Tana’s memories of Trueffet were set after the White Mage had already fallen. Lily pointed out that Transcendents weren’t bound by time and space like they were, meaning that the Black Mage’s return to his original form before he died could have influenced moments in the past.

After Grendel left, Elwin attempted to open a portal, though his fear of the White Mage prevented him from doing so. The White Mage then appeared before them and revealed that the Transcendents had been created as slaves to maintain order, as well as to jail the Ancient Gods. After speaking with him, Elwin opened another portal to follow Grendel.

The group then continued through the Morass, which had taken the form of the Black Mage's memories of watching the Adversary in Esfera from afar. As they continued through, they encountered an echo of Melange picking up Will's book of prophecy. Though they attempted to stop him, to their surprise, the echo of Melange grew self-aware and used his power to freeze the group before forcing them to continue on their way. When Elwin called Melange a "kid", Melange grew annoyed and ordered Elwin to stop before hitting him with his staff.

Eventually, the group encountered Grendel at the barrier between Maple World and Grandis. Grendel then revealed that the absence of the Transcendents meant that the two worlds were nearly one. He then shattered the paper-thin dimensional barrier between worlds, allowing Maple World and Grandis to fuse into one, just as they had originally been.
