MapleStory/Regional Servers
MapleStory is a game which originates from South Korea. It has gained worldwide popularity since its launch in 2003. In order to cater to players outside of South Korea, regional servers, along with their localised variations, were introduced around the globe.
All servers require players to play in their own regions. Attempts to play on a different regional server may be unsuccessful, since unsupported IP addresses will usually be blocked by the server. Some servers’ registration processes also prevent foreign players from creating an account in the game. Moreover, due to physical constraints, players will experience lag if they play on servers outside of their own regional ones.
These servers are further divided into "worlds" where different communities and distinct economies exist. The purpose of implementing several different worlds is to prevent overpopulation on one world that can negatively impact one’s gaming experiences (e.g. the lack of training grounds for one to level up their characters).
Regional Servers
MapleStory Korea
MapleStory Korea (KR:메이플스토리 romaja: Meipeul Seutori), also known as KoreaMS or KMS, is the version of MapleStory that serves South Korea. Its primary language is Korean, and the server timezone is KST (UTC+9). KoreaMS is owned and operated by NEXON Korea Co., Ltd..

MapleStory Japan
MapleStory Japan (JP:メイプルストーリー romaji: Meipuru Sutōrī) , also known as JapanMS or JMS, is the version of MapleStory that serves Japan. Its primary language is Japanese, and the server timezone is JST (UTC+9). JapanMS is owned and operated by NEXON JP Co. Ltd..
JapanMS was temporarily closed on 13 March 2011 due to the effects of the Great East Japan Earthquake, but has reopened as of 24 March 2011.
Worlds
The first server opened was Kaede during the Closed Beta of JapanMS from August 2003.
JapanMS used to have a total of 15 worlds but now only four remain due to server merges done in 2013, 2014, and 2016. Some of the worlds had special features such as Tsutsuji having no MTS and the Supreme World known as Ibara. The first merge consolidated the Keyaki, Poramu, Kunugi, and Tsubaki servers into the Azusa server.
The second merge consolidated the Momiji, Karin, Sumomo, and Popura servers into the Kurumi server, and the Anzu, Natsume, Mizuki, Tsutsuji, and Ibara servers into the Yukari server.
The final merge consolidated the Azusa server into the Yukari server and the Sakura server into the Kaede server.
Reboot World was introduced on May 25, 2016. This world was fully converted into a Regular World on January 22, 2025, and renamed to Hinoki.
MapleStory China
MapleStory China, officially called Adventure Island Online (CN:冒险岛 pinyin: mào xiǎn dǎo), also known as ChinaMS or CMS, is the version of MapleStory that serves China. Its primary language is Simplified Chinese, and the server timezone is CST (UTC+8). ChinaMS is owned and operated by Shanghai Shulong Science and Technology Co., Ltd. under the Shengqu Games (formerly known as Shanda Games) brand.
Worlds
Until September 2019, there were 44 regular worlds in CMS. Due to population differences between worlds, worlds in all gateways were merged.
On April 3, 2025, a new world named Blue Snail was introduced. To distinguish it with old Blue Snail that was renamed to Lucid, the new Blue Snail world is referred as "New Blue Snail" by the local players.
With the NEXT Update on June 25, 2025, Challengers Worlds were created in 5 gateways. After Challenger Worlds event had ended, the first Challengers World was merged with Blue Snail on November 20, 2025[1], while the other Challengers Worlds were removed on October 29, 2025[2].

MapleStory Global
MapleStory Global, also known as GlobalMS or GMS, is the version of MapleStory that serves most countries except those that have their own version.[8] Its primary language is English, and the server timezone is UTC. GlobalMS is owned and operated by NEXON America Inc..
On December 2015, a Reboot world was introduced. Between July 2018 and November 2023, this Reboot world was referred to as NA Reboot to distinguish it from Reboot in the European gateway. In the New Age Update, existing Reboot worlds in North America and Europe gateways were renamed to Reboot Kronos and Reboot Solis, respectively. Additionally, another Reboot world, Reboot Hyperion, was introduced in North America.[9]
On October 26, 2021, players from the Netherlands were restricted from trading functionalities to comply with Netherlands regulations, which indirectly forced Dutch players to move to Reboot world.[10]
On February 2023, Reboot Worlds were renamed and recategorized as Heroic Worlds, Reboot prefixes were dropped, and all other Regular Worlds were categorized as Interactive Worlds.
MapleStory Global has cleared account names in three instances. In October 2015, inactive accounts that hadn't logged in since 2013 had their character names replaced with a number sign and a random string of numbers.[11] In June 2021, characters level 35 and below inactive since December 2016 were deleted if they were not guild leaders or had unclaimed Cash items.[12] In November 2025, characters level 61 and below inactive since September 2022 were deleted if they are not guild leaders or had unclaimed Cash items.[13]
North America
Until August 2019, there were 17 regular worlds (Scania, Bera, Windia, Broa, Khaini, Mardia, Yellonde, Bellocan, Chaos, Kradia, Nova, Galicia, Renegades, Arcania, Zenith, El Nido, Demethos), and one Reboot world. Due to the huge population differences between the regular worlds, all worlds except Scania and Bera were merged into two worlds: Aurora (consisting of Windia, Mardia, Yellonde, Bellocan, Chaos, Kradia, and Nova) and Elysium (consisting of Broa, Khaini, Galicia, Renegades, Arcania, Zenith, El Nido, and Demethos).[14]
Due to further population differences between the regular worlds, Aurora and Elysium were merged into Scania on August 27, 2025.[15]

MapleStorySEA
MapleStorySEA (South East Asia), also known as MapleSEA or simply MSEA, is the version of MapleStory that serves Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand. Its primary language is English, but the translation is different than that of GMS, being an almost direct translation from the Korean source, and the server timezone is SGT (UTC+8). MapleSEA is owned and operated by Playpark Pte. Ltd..
MapleStorySEA previously had Simplified Chinese support with slightly different translations compared to ChinaMS, with the game being known as Maple Adventure (CN:枫险之旅 pinyin: Fēng xiǎn zhī lǚ). The support was limited to Gemini world, and this support was removed on August 2009 in conjunction with the merge between Fornax and Gemini worlds, and it will be added back in Crown update.
MapleStorySEA has deleted character names in two instances. In November 2020 and November 2024, characters level 61 and below inactive since January 2017 and September 2024 respectively were deleted if they were not guild leaders or had unclaimed Cash items.[17][18]
Worlds
MapleStorySEA previously had two gateways: Singapore (later renamed as Ares, consisting of Aquila, Bootes, Cassiopeia, Delphinus, Eridanus, Izar, and Jynarvis) and Malaysia (later renamed as Artemis, consisting of Fornax, Gemini, and Hercules). The gateway was later merged on February 2016 and the gateway selection was removed.
Due to population differences between worlds, multiple world merges were conducted from 2009 to 2016. The world selection and characters in the affected worlds remained separate, though all other systems including maps and rankings were shared and treated as one world. The merges were as follows:
- Delphinus and Eridanus (February 2009)
- Fornax and Gemini (October 2009)
- Fornax, Gemini, and Hercules (October 2011)
- Delphinus, Eridanus, and Izar (October 2011)
- Delphinus, Eridanus, Izar, Fornax, Gemini, Hercules, and Jynarvis (May 2016) - also known as D2J
Due to further population differences between the D2J worlds, these worlds were merged into a newly created Draco world on March 2019.
