Properties and Use
The Sword of Destruction contains immense power gathered from absorbing the souls of countless wingless half-blood demons over the course of millennia. Through this accumulation of energy, the Sword of Destruction has amassed incredible strength, enough to border on the domain of the gods themselves. Although the sword was considered a failed experiment, its power was nevertheless strong enough to deal a mortal blow to the Ancient God Shinsoo. The properties of the Sword of Destruction is highly reminiscent of Specter experiments that took place on Grandis during the age of the gods, in which a host body was filled with countless Specter souls in order to trick the holy relics of the Ancient Gods into awakening for them. However, the notable difference is that whereas the Specter souls were filled into a host body to access the divine power of a relic, the demon souls in the sword were designed to emulate divine power itself. Despite this, the sword is capable of absorbing the power of the gods, such as when Damien absorbed the Abyss Crystal into the blade, imbibing the crystal's properties into itself and allowing him to steal Alicia's Transcendent powers.
Although the sword was unable to serve as as a substitute for Transcendental power on its own, it nevertheless possessed several unique properties that made its power quite formidable. Although the sword is designed to absorb the souls of half-blood demons, it is nevertheless capable of recognizing a suitable wielder, such as when it chose Damien to claim its power, rather than devouring his soul. However, the wielder's life force will grow entangled with the souls trapped within the blade, leaving them dependent on the sword's power to remain alive, as well as slowly driving them into unending obsession for greater power. Because of this, prolonged usage of the sword will begin to erode the wielder's humanity, turning them into yet another victim of the cursed blade. Additionally, the wielder will will immediately be killed in the event that the sword's power is severed, such as when the Demon cleaved through the demon souls within the sword, resulting in Damien's death. Though the wielder's life depends on the sword, its power is capable of sustaining the wielder and even healing their injuries. Additionally, the Sword of Destruction is capable of branding living things with a curse mark, allowing the wielder to freely control those beings, access their thoughts, drain their life force, and even deal damage them through the curse mark, though it is possible for one to resist control through immense willpower, as seen with Afrien resisting Damien on Turtle Island. Because of the sword's abilities heavily pertaining to life and living things, it is speculated that the Sword of Destruction was designed to imitate the power of the Transcendent of Life.
History
The Sword of Destruction was an experiment created by the pure-blood demon Drak in Azmoth Chasm. This sword was Drak's attempt to replicate the power of a Transcendent by performing horrific blood alchemy experiments, in which countless wingless half-blood demons were sacrificed, with their souls being torn out and sealed within the blade. Although the sword was deemed a failed experiment by Drak, the pure-blood demons of Tynerum nevertheless continued to strengthen its power by sacrificing half-blood demons across the millennia. After the Black Mage was sealed away by the Heroes, many half-blood demons who had fled Tynerum and sought asylum in Maple World were exiled and sent back to their homeland, including Damien. There, the pure-bloods sacrificed all the wingless half-bloods amongst the refugees, though the sword recognized Damien as a worthy wielder, sparing his life and allowing him to claim it for himself. With the power of the sword, Damien began gaining power and influence amongst the half-bloods of Tynerum over the centuries, rallying them under his banner and promising to deliver them Maple World in order to remake it into a land for them alone, away from the tyranny of the pure-bloods.
After the Black Mage was freed from his seal, Arkarium came to bring Damien before him, where Damien swore allegiance to the Black Mage as a Commander. As a Commander, Damien began using the sword's cursed properties to brand the creatures of Maple World in order to absorb their power for himself, such as when he branded the Stone Colossus. Though he was tasked with capturing the World Tree, Damien intended to take her powers from the beginning, thereby augmenting his power with that of the Transcendent of Life itself. When Alicia was rescued from Root Abyss and placed under Shinsoo's protection, Damien soon invaded Ereve and used the sword to deal a mortal blow to Shinsoo, resulting in her near-death, with the sword's unique properties allowing him to damage an Ancient God. After capturing Alicia, Damien was tasked with finding the Abyss Crystal and delivering Alicia's powers to the Black Mage. In order to bait the Heroes into finding the crystal for him, Damien led his demon army to Rien and branded Afrien, torturing him so that Evan would seek Afrien out and inherit Freud's memories that would allow him to find the Abyss Crystal. Eventually, Damien successfully stole the Abyss Crystal from the Heroes, after which he absorbed it into the Sword of Destruction and stole Alicia's Transcendent powers. With the power of life itself, Damien began absorbing the vitality of Maple World into himself until the Heroes and the Demon defeated him once and for all. In his final moments of clarity, Damien asked the Demon to kill him, revealing that the sword had made him lose control over himself, enough that he could barely remember who he used to be. Mournfully, the Demon cleaved through the demon souls in the sword, severing Damien's life force and putting an end to him once and for all. Despite Damien's defeat, however, the power of the sword continued infecting the World Tree, corrupting the flora and fauna of the World Tree, as well as the remnants of the demon army, who were driven into obsession with carrying out Damien's will to create a world for half-blood demons.
