The Afterlands is a theme dungeon and continent available in overseas servers. After suffering an unfortunate death while helping an Old Man, the players ends up in the afterlife. A giant door with 12 locks appears before the player, who must travel to each land and gather all 12 keys to leave the mystical area and return to the land of the living.

This region can be accessed via the Maple Guide. Players will start in the Land of Beginnings with the giant door. It is divided into four sections, which you slowly gain access to as you progress through the questline:

  • Land of Warriors, a land of battle where the spirits of those with fiery passion compete every day for the title of "Greatest Warrior Ever", who is allowed to use the Solar Pulley to change the cycle of Day and Night within the entire region.
  • Land of Riches, a land of lush pastures where the spirits of those with desires like greed and hunger hoard their wealth from each other, oblivious to the riches of the land surrounding them. Nearby, there is an Old Tombstone Maker who specializes in creating tombstones and putting souls to rest.
  • Land of Contemplation, a land devoid of color where the spirits of those who don't fit the above criteria are sent to meditate and contemplate life.
  • Land of Innocence, a land of childlike imagination where the spirits of innocent children are placed, with the weather changing to rain or thunder based on their emotions.

Due to the nature of the Afterlands, each of the above lands must be traveled to in a cycle via Ashkaya the Guide Tree Spirit, though later in the questline you gain the ability to travel between the Lands of Innocence and Contemplation via a rainbow bridge. Changing the Solar Pulley between Day and Night will change the BGM and make the monsters in the Afterlands stronger, with more HP and EXP. Controlling both the Solar Pulley and the weather (by eating the children's snacks or destroying their toys) are necessary at certain points during the questline. Unlike most theme dungeons, The Afterlands does not have any bosses.

Completing the questline will reward the Afterlands Souvenir Set consisting of four Totems:  Beodog Figurine,  Billy Figurine,  Adler Figurine, and  Mansa Figurine. Equipping 3 of these will grant an additional Set Effect of +10 Weapon Attack and Magic Attack. In addition, completing the Old Tombstone Maker's quest [The Afterlands] Ready for the Hereafter will allow you to choose between the Bronze, Silver, or Golden Tombstone when dying in the field or at a boss.
