Destonen was the husband of Yuris, and the father of Tess and Kyrin.
Story
Destonen was a legendary fighter, said to be the first pirate in Maple World, and rumored to have fought with his bare hands. His married a half-elf named Yuris and had a son named Tess. Centuries ago, he was a famed pioneer of Maple World, having sailed the ocean in search of new continents. While the Heroes sealed away the Black Mage, Destonen joined Athena Pierce in evacuating to Victoria Island, which had split off from the continent of Ossyria. However, their airship was attacked by dragons and crash-landed in Ellin Forest.
Over the next several months, Destonen and the able-bodied fighters of the group began going on expeditions to scout Victoria Island for good places to create settlements. During this time, he frequently left behind his son and pregnant wife, ignoring others who whispered behind his back about him abandoning his family, as he believed that he was working to create a better world for them. On one such expedition, Destonen encountered a traveler who had come from the past through the Crack in Time in Ludibrium. The traveler helped Destonen clear a path through a cave filled with wild boars, including Chao. The traveler then explained that they were investigating a dark aura around Ellin Forest at the request of Perzen, to which Destonen suggested that there was something wrong with Ephenia, the Fairy Queen.
After the traveler killed Ephenia, they read in their book of Ellin Forest that a pioneer of Altaire Camp would soon die. Believing the pioneer to be Destonen, the traveler rushed through the cave where they had defeated Chao and found that Destonen was about to enter a suspicious tent. The traveler warned Destonen not to enter the tent, claiming that he would learn a dangerous truth and die shortly after. Upon learning that they had come from the future, Destonen found that he believed their words, as they had a deep look in their eyes. He then proceeded to tell the traveler about how he had first met Yuris in her self-made airship. He explained that many believed that he had been looking for freedom on the open seas, but what he had truly been searching for was something to come back to after the adventure was over. He also noted that despite many who spoke ill of him for supposedly abandoning his family while exploring Ellin Forest, he had been hoping to create a better world for Yuris and his children. He then asked the traveler what would become of Kyrin, as being the only person without elven ancestry in his family meant that he would be unable to see his daughter grow older. The traveler told him that she would live as freely as him on the open seas, which pleased Destonen. He then wrote a letter to Yuris and asked the traveler to deliver it to her.
Soon after the traveler left, Destonen entered the tent and found that there was a strange laboratory inside. While investigating the tent, he was confronted by Kirston, who placed a curse on Destonen and his bloodline that was tied to the Black Mage, which would disappear only when the Black Mage was killed. When Destonen returned to Ellin Forest, he learned that Yuris died of poisoning shortly after giving birth to Kyrin. Destonen then led Athena Pierce and Tess to the tent, where he explained the blood curse before succumbing to it soon after.
