Kirston is a dark magician and a follower of the Black Mage. Aside from researching ancient relics and prophecies, his primary goal seems to be reviving the Black Mage. It is speculated by Pathfinder that Kirston may also be from a different dimension.
Story
Ellin Forest
After the Black Mage was sealed away by the Heroes, Athena Pierce led a group of survivors from Leafre to the southern plains of Victoria Island. However, dragons attacked the refugee airship and forced them to crash-land in Ellin Forest. The refugees set up Altaire Camp and sent its best fighters to explore the area in order to find fertile lands to relocate to. The refugees came into conflict with the Fairy Queen Ephenia, who loathed humans because of their disrespect towards fairies. In the area that would later be known as Perion, Kirston had set up a tent, from which he began researching the Black Mage. He grew fascinated with the Black Mage's ideals, wondering what it was about him that attracted so many powerful beings like the Commanders. Noting that the Black Mage had been sealed, Kirston was unsure of whether it had been part of the Black Mage's plan and resolved to revive him in case it was not. During his research he uncovered a prophecy regarding the maple leaves in which the First Explorer's will resided. He feared that the power of the Adversary within the maple leaves would foil the Black Mage's plan and resolved to eliminate all obstacles in the Black Mage's path.
Kirston soon met with Ephenia and convinced her to follow the Black Mage's ideals of destruction. Ephenia fell to darkness and her corruption spread to the other fairies in the forest. Hoping to destroy all humans, Ephenia and Kirston released a poison that contained a trace of the Black Mage's power, which was scattered around the forest through the artificial rain cast by Perzen of Altaire Camp. Simultaneously, Kirston discovered that the legendary pirate, Destonen, had stumbled across his research tent while exploring Victoria Island. He then cursed Destonen's bloodline with a spell that would persist as long as the Black Mage remained alive. He returned to Altaire Camp to find that his wife, Yuris, had been killed by the poison rain shortly after giving birth to their daughter, Kyrin. Destonen then explained what had happened to Athena Pierce and his son, Tess, before succumbing to the blood curse, which then split itself between Tess and Kyrin. Tess soon realized that the curse worsened the closer that he and Kyrin were to each other, and so he resolved to stay away from his sister and search for a way to break the curse.
Partem Ruins
Kirston discovered a relic in the ruins of Partem and learned that it had been created by an Ancient God eons ago. After the fall of the Ancient Gods, the relic had lost much of its power, and so Kirston attempted to turn back time on the relic such that its original power would be restored. However, Freud had created a time barrier that prevented time from flowing back any further than the point at which the Black Mage had been sealed. As a result, the ritual failed and placed a curse on the relic. The dark energies of the cursed relic spread throughout the ruins of Partem, causing loud rumbling noises that terrified the native Karuppa villagers, who kept their distance from the ruins. Eventually a bowman discovered the relic, which inflicted a curse upon her. While attempting to find a way to revert the curse, she learned more about the origins of the relic and found that the dark energy of the curse coexisted with the divine power of the relic, as well as that becoming the true owner of the relic would break the curse. After claiming the relic for herself, the bowman became known as Pathfinder and went on a journey to master the relic's power. As she continued lifting the curse, she was drawn to several ruins in Perion and Aqua Road, which granted her visions about Kirston and the origins of the curse. Her visions led her to believe that not only was Kirston from a different dimension, but he also hadn't given up on his goals.
Gate of the Past
Kirston eventually learned about the Mirror of the Goddess, which allowed one to physically move the past. He then broke into the Temple of Time and forced his way through the Gate of the Past, where he attempted to use the mirror in order to summon the Black Mage. However, as mortals were unable to properly use the mirror, Kirston inadvertently summoned a creature named Pink Bean from another world. A traveler who had been investigating Kirston at the request of the Temple Keeper discovered him summoning Pink Bean and watched as the strange creature shot down a powerful bolt of lighting, causing Kirston to vanish.

Trivia
- It is highly likely that Kirston is the founder of Ebonstar:
- Pathfinder's storyline suggests that Kirston has come from another dimension while searching for traces of the Ancient Gods. The importance and influence of the Ancient Gods on Grandis, along with the convergence of Maple World and Grandis, makes it likely that Kirston originates from Grandis. Kirston's interest in bringing back the power of the gods - such as his research in Partem - lines with Ebonstar originally being devout believers of the gods and their return.
- The Explorer storyline reveals that Kirston was present on Maple World before the Black Mage was sealed away. As evidenced by Magnus crossing over to Maple World after the end of the Flora Civil War and subsequently becoming a Commander of the Black Mage, the various Interdimensional Portals created from Darmoor stealing the power of time from Chronica must have appeared before the Black Mage was sealed away, lining up with Kirston being able to cross over from Grandis to Maple World while the Black Mage was still active.
- The Explorer storyline also reveals that Kirston had grown enamored by the Black Mage's ideals, and that he had been researching the Black Mage's true goals. Given his failure to reproduce the power of the gods in Partem, it is possible that his interest in the Black Mage came after concluding that the Ancient Gods were truly gone, with his eventual discovery about the Black Mage's true goal being to create a new world stemming from disillusionment in the gods' return. His interest in finding and speaking with the Black Mage - such as when he attempted to summon the Black Mage in the Temple of Time - may be a result of this.
- If so, Kirston may have used the Interdimensional Portal created on Maple World after the Black Mage had stolen the power of time from Rhinne to return back to Grandis, just as Magnus had done, where he may have revealed what he had seen to the other believers, eventually forming Ebonstar. Similarly, Kirston's return to Maple World may have happened after the Black Mage's weakening seal had caused the Interdimensional Portal to return to Maple World, allowing Kirston to come and go from the two dimensions and attempt to summon the Black Mage in the Temple of Time.

Kirston taking and corrupting the ancient relic in Partem
-
At last, I've found it...
With this, I should be able to reproduce the ancient power!
And now I have proof it existed here as well! -
Just as I anticipated, it's blocked.
This is the full extent of the ancient power that can be reproduced.
...At least, for the time being.
