Lynn/Story

Main Story
The Eternal Forest
At a small hut by the Eternal Forest of Jianghu, a child named Lynn grew up, watched from afar by a large bear known as the Earth Guardian. Though the Earth Guardian stayed at her side while she remained a toddler, he soon began keeping his distance, knowing that she would be able to remember him as she grew older. One day, after accidentally being seen by Lynn, the embarrassed Earth Guardian traveled to the Samsara Spring and visited the Forest Master, a large blue-green deer, and asked her how he could become wise like her, confessing that he always behaved like a fool. The Forest Master reassured the Earth Guardian that he didn't need to be wise, noting that wisdom often brought fear and hesitation. She told the Earth Guardian that he had courage that she herself lacked, noting that despite having the power to help the reincarnation of the Forest Child, she didn't have the bravery to leave the spring and find them in-person. The Earth Guardian replied that there wasn't anything they could do about it, as the power supporting the Eternal Forest would collapse if the Forest Master were to leave the spring. The Forest Master laughed and told him that it was all the more reason why she needed his help, to which the Earth Guardian asked her whether Lynn was the child from her stories, whose reincarnation she searched for across ages, with each Forest Child reincarnating alongside the Spirit Guides. As he spoke, however, the Forest Master closed her eyes from exhaustion and fell asleep, much to the Earth Master's bemusement.
Pan the Earth Guardian
Years later, the Earth Guardian began covertly trailing Lynn, who had grown up into an adolescent. Just then, the Earth Guardian slipped on the icy snow, causing Lynn to notice him. Lynn approached the Earth Guardian, recognizing him from her childhood memories, and introduced herself by name before asking him for his. However, the embarrassed Earth Guardian quickly rushed off and met with the Forest Master, revealing that he had confirmed that Lynn was the Forest Child after hearing her name. He then explained that when she had asked him for his name, he had almost answered involuntarily before rushing off, recalling how the rule of the forest was that the Spirit Guides could not speak their names to the Forest Child until she spoke their names first herself, as the Forest Child may never reincarnate again. Upon seeing that the Forest Master remained asleep, the Earth Guardian asked her whether she was still exhausted.
Just then, small purple flames began welling up across the spring, to which the panicking Earth Guardian told the Forest Master to wait for him, as he was bringing the Forest Child to help. As he began setting off, he noted to himself that it would be quite fortunate if Lynn truly was the Forest Child, as it would mean that they would be able to say their names again. Just then, an Eternal Rest Brand – a mark of a dark power, manifesting as a diamond sigil with purple flames – began chasing the Earth Guardian through the forest until the Earth Guardian reached Lynn's hut and collapsed. Lynn rushed over to help up the Earth Guardian, who thanked her and apologized for running away earlier. He noted that she must already know him from all the times that he had been watching over her from afar before asking her to help him wake the Forest Master. At Lynn's confusion, the Earth Guardian explained that the Forest Master was his friend and protector of the Eternal Forest. An apprehensive Lynn told the Earth Guardian that she had never been inside the forest before, and nor had she ever seen the Forest Master, for which she asked the Earth Guardian whether she was truly the right person to be asking for help. The Earth Guardian reassured Lynn that she was indeed the right person, explaining that the Forest Master was like him, except that she had been watching Lynn for a long time – even before Lynn had ever been born. Though Lynn was surprised to hear this, she also noted to herself that it didn't seem as though the Earth Guardian was lying, as she had vague memories of someone watching over her for many years, and that she had never felt alone because of that. Lynn then agreed to help the Earth Guardian, though she admitted that she was afraid of how dark the forest was. In order to help her overcome her fear, the Earth Guardian told Lynn to fix a lantern from her hut on a stick in order to create a Memorial Staff, which would light her way through the darkness.
The pair then began walking through the forest, with Lynn noting that it seemed to get brighter the further they went inside. She then noted several beautiful flowers, though she found that they were regrettably all withered away. The Earth Guardian explained that they were flowers that only bloomed in the Eternal Forest, though they had begun withering because the Forest Master's power had grown stagnant without the Forest Child to circulate it. He then added that he believed Lynn to be Forest Child, to which a surprised Lynn asked him what kind of power the Forest Child held. The Earth Guardian replied that he wasn't quite sure how to explain it, though he believed that the Forest Master, who was the wisest person he knew, would be able to explain it better than he could. As they began proceeding further towards the Samsara Spring, Lynn asked the Earth Guardian who the Forest Child even was, to which he explained that the Forest Child was a special child who would help them all. He then told Lynn that when he had run away before, it had been because he had almost told her his name when she asked him. He revealed that the Forest Master had told him that no one in the Eternal Forest could speak their name until the Forest Child spoke it first. A confused Lynn asked him how she could speak his name without knowing it first, to which the Earth Guardian told her that they could ask the Forest Master to explain more about the rules of the forest. However, Lynn then hesitantly asked the Earth Guardian what would happen if she wasn't really the Forest Child, to which the Earth Guardian reassured her that it would simply mean that they both had a new friend to talk to, cheering Lynn up immediately. The two then continued walking and began reaching the outskirts of the spring when an Eternal Rest Brand appeared, triggering a latent memory of Lynn's past life, in which she recalled a foggy memory of a dark gray wolf.
Lynn then realized that the Earth Guardian was in danger, causing her to instinctually recall his name: Pan. Lynn then called out Pan's name, allowing him to channel his true power and transform. Using his new fiery abilities, Pan defeated the Eternal Rest Brand and the animals of the forest which had been corrupted with the brand's dark curse. Pan was surprised to find that he had grown in size, as well as that the animals of the forest had been branded. With Lynn channeling his power through his name, the pair attempted to help bring the animals back to their senses. As the pair began fighting the animals, more Eternal Rest Brands appeared with bird-like Shadows of Eternal Rest and butterfly-like Eternal Rest Curses. Throughout the fight, Lynn began recalling more memories of her past life, in which she had played with Pan and the forest animals. Though dizzy from the rush of memories, Lynn quickly noticed that Pan's arm had been injured in the fight. Recalling her abilities through instinct, Lynn was able to use her power to heal Pan's injuries. Pan thanked Lynn and asked her whether she had remembered old memories, to which Lynn explained that she had only recalled vague moments of a past life. Pan told Lynn that he had seen those memories as well, and that it seemed as though they had experienced that recollection at the same time. Pan then added that when Lynn spoke his name, he felt a great surge of will and power, as though he could – and needed to – protect others, which had made him convinced that she was truly the Forest Child. Upon seeing that Lynn was overwhelmed with her new situation, Pan decided to help take her mind off it by showing her one of his abilities, which was to open the hidden path to the Samsara Spring.
Meeting the Forest Master
Upon entering the portal, Lynn and Pan encountered the Forest Master, who opened her eyes in Lynn's presence and smiled. Pan was overjoyed to see that the Forest Master had finally woken up, with Lynn approaching her and explaining that Pan had brought her to help. Upon realizing that Lynn knew Pan's name, the Forest Master smiled and noted that it was quite impressive that she had been able to recall a Spirit Guide's name. She then noted that Lynn didn't seem to know her name, to which Lynn admitted that she had no idea what the names of the other Spirit Guides were, though the Forest Master reassured her that it was enough that she had been able to come to the spring. Lynn then asked the Forest Master to tell her more about the Forest Child, noting that Pan had mentioned how the Forest Master had been watching over her for a long time. As she began describing how Pan had grown larger when she had called his name, as well as how she had regained memories of a past life, the Forest Master recalled how all of Lynn's past lives would ask the same question, and how she would always reply the same way, and always with joy. The Forest Master confirmed that Lynn was indeed the Forest Child, and that Pan's transformation had been his manifestation from Lynn calling his name. She then added that Lynn's powers and memories resurfacing was a chain reaction triggered by her awakening as the Forest Child. After hearing the Forest Master's explanation, Lynn decided that she would accept her role as the Forest Child and help the Forest Master however she could.
The Forest Master then blessed Lynn with a special leaf that she called the breath of the forest, which would help her on her journey. She explained that finding the names of the Spirit Guides would be an arduous journey, though the Spirit Guides would be able to recognize her immediately, which would help her on her quest. Lynn asked whether being able to remember the names of the Spirit Guides was a test, to which the Forest Master explained that it was a rite of passage and an ancient rule of the forest. Lynn then asked the Forest Master whether remembering her name would cause her power to return, which the Forest Master confirmed, noting that calling out her name would allow her power to manifest and circulate throughout the forest. Lynn then hesitantly asked what would happen if she couldn't remember the Forest Master's name, to which the Forest Master attempted to reassure Lynn by telling to concern herself with ‘what is', not with ‘what if'. She then told Lynn that she would need to seek out the Sky Guardian next before her exhaustion caused her to fall asleep once again.
Penni the Sky Guardian
After speaking with the Forest Master, Lynn asked Pan whether the rules of the forest were the reason why he wasn't able to speak his own name, to which Pan explained that though he didn't fully understand the ancient rules, he could instinctually feel a desire to avoid saying his name before Lynn had spoken it. As Lynn began growing uneasy about not being able to remember the Spirit Guides' names, Pan reminded Lynn about the Forest Master's advice to not concern herself with ‘what if'. Pan then began feeling a strange sense of uncomfortableness, to which Lynn asked him whether it was because he had just regained some of his memories. Though Pan admitted that it could be possible, he noted that it somehow felt different. Nevertheless, he decided to ignore it and began wondering about how they would find the Sky Guardian amidst the large forest, to which Lynn suggested going to the highest point, which would be closest to the sky. As they began to set off, Lynn paused and wondered whether the sleeping Forest Master would be safe, to which Pan reassured her that only the Spirit Guides could enter the Samsara Spring. The pair then headed towards the ocean cliff, where Lynn marveled at seeing such a beautiful sight. Upon seeing a tree at the cliff edge, Lynn and Pan decided to climb to the top in order to reach the highest point in the sky. Just then, a bird with blue and pink feathers stopped them and warned that it was dangerous. Lynn immediately called the bird ‘cute', which irritated him, though he nevertheless agreed to fly Lynn and Pan to the top of the tree. Upon seeing their disbelieving faces, however, the bird told them to watch as he spread his wings and flew high. Just as he did, however, the bird immediately fell from the air and began rapidly falling down the cliffside, much to Lynn and Pan's shock.
As the bird fell, Lynn once again recalled the same memory of the dark gray wolf. Disturbed by the hazy memory, Lynn instinctively thought to herself that she couldn't lose Penni as well. As she called his name aloud, Lynn and Pan both realized that she had just recalled the bird's name. However, Lynn wondered why Penni hadn't transformed the way that Pan had when she had said his name. In order to save Penni, Pan grabbed Lynn and jumped down the cliff. From a distance, however, the wolf from Lynn's memories silently watched the pair jump down after Penni. At the same time, Penni – upon Lynn calling out his name – was able to manifest his larger form in order to break free from the Eternal Rest Brand which was pulling him down to the bottom of the cliff. He then flew up and caught both Lynn and Pan, flying them away safely on his back. Penni proudly noted that he hadn't been lying earlier about being able to carry them both, adding that he could fly faster and higher than any other creature. Back at the top of the cliff, Penni told the pair that the branches of the tree which they had been planning to climb might have easily snapped due to the tree's age. As Pan marveled over the Sky Guardian, Lynn remained silent as she wondered who the wolf in her hazy memories could be, noting to herself that she had already seen him twice. Pan quickly noticed Lynn's mood and asked what was bothering her, to which Lynn noted that she was feeling uneasy about the hazy memories that she was having, asking both Pan and Penni whether they had seen the memory as well. Penni told Lynn that the memory felt familiar, though he told her not to worry too much about it, noting that they had more urgent issues to worry about, such as the Eternal Rest Brand which had fled into the distance.
Together, the three followed the Eternal Rest Brand and soon encountered a horde of Eternal Rest curse monsters. Pan immediately recognized the Eternal Rest Brands from when one had chased him earlier, while Penni noted that this was the first time that he was seeing one. Nevertheless, Lynn and the Spirit Guides decided to face the strange monsters together. As they did, however, Lynn was flooded with a memory of one of her past lives. In her memory, she saw her past life walking through the forest, with Pan collapsing as he attempted to chase after her. She turned to find Pan begging her to come back and help, to which her past life disdainfully retorted that Pan simply wanted to live a life of dependence on others. She then asked Pan whether it had ever occurred to him to ask someone else for help. Picking himself back up, Pan insisted that only the Forest Child could help the Forest Master, to which Lynn's past life sighed before following Pan to the Samsara Spring. There, they found the Forest Master in deep slumber, with Lynn's past life noting that just as she had said, it had all been a waste of time. Pan begged the Forest Master to awaken, noting that he had brought the Forest Child that she had been looking for, though the Forest Master's eyes remained closed. Pan then turned back to Lynn's past life and begged her to try waking the Forest Master up, noting that she had to remember something, even if it was only Pan's name. However, Lynn's past life retorted that from the moment he had approached her, he had been talking of nothing but names, demanding to know what his name had to do with her. She then added that if the matter was as simple as saying a name, he ought to just tell her his name.
As she began walking away, a desperate Pan told her that he couldn't tell her his name, as it was forbidden by the rules of the forest. He explained that if he told her his name, far from not being able to regain his power back, the Forest Child herself may never regain her power back, either. He added that if such a thing happened, they may never be able to see each other again in their next lives. Despite Pan's heartfelt request, however, Lynn's past life simply walked away without a word, to which Penni – who had been watching silently – mournfully told Pan that it was time for them to accept that the Forest Child no longer existed. With the memory ending, Lynn and the Spirit Guides awoke in the present day, with all three of them having seen the memory together. Based on what they had just seen, a distraught Lynn realized that she didn't always awaken as the Forest Child, noting how her past life had callously rejected the Forest Master and Pan's request to help her. She added that she was right to worry about not being able to remember the Spirit Guides' names, noting to herself that perhaps the wolf in her blurry memories had something to do with it as well. However, Pan urged Lynn not to think that way, promising that it would be different this time, though Lynn nevertheless remained silent for a moment before turning to Penni and telling him that she feared that she would one day lose him because of her mistakes.
Penni retorted to Lynn by asking her whether she was really getting afraid of things that hadn't even happened yet, adding that her worries were unfounded, adding that she only needed to take responsibility for calling out their names. With that, Pan opened a portal to the Samsara Spring in order to meet with the Forest Master. Upon seeing Lynn's uncertain expression, Pan asked her to hold his hand as they entered the spring, claiming that he was feeling nervous. Lynn then smiled and noted to herself that she needed to cheer up, as she was the Forest Child. Together, the three entered the Samsara Spring and found the Forest Master sleeping. However, Lynn noticed that the Forest Master had grown smaller in size, just like how the Spirit Guides appeared before Lynn called out their names. Penni explained that they needed to find the last Spirit Guide and told them to follow him, explaining that they had met in the forest before.
The Outside World
Penni led the pair to a part of the forest filled with forget-me-not bushes, though they found that the last Spirit Guide was nowhere in sight, despite Penni being certain that he had seen the Spirit Guide there earlier. Lynn wondered whether he would appear if he learned that the Forest Child had truly returned, though she then considered the possibility that he may also think that she was unworthy of being the Forest Child, just as she had been in her previous life. Though Pan disagreed that she was unworthy, he noted that her idea about proving herself to the last Spirit Guide was a good one. He then wondered whether the Spirit Guide was perhaps waiting for Lynn to speak his name, noting that he may appear even cooler in his manifestation form. Penni then assuaged Lynn's fear of being unworthy by reminding her that the very fact that she had been able to remember their names was proof of her qualification as the Forest Child, noting that he had felt the threads of destiny binding them all together when he had manifested.
Penni assured Lynn that all she needed to do to prove herself to the last Spirit Guide was to put her full determination into her mission, adding that he could help her get stronger. Lynn asked him how he could help her, to which Penni told her that he would take her to the wider world of Maple World. Lynn, having never been outside the Eternal Forest before, grew nervous at the thought of entering an unfamiliar land, though she quickly realized that she had nothing to fear with Pan and Penni by her side. After agreeing to head to Maple World, Penni brought Lynn and Pan to Ellinia, where Lynn marveled at how different the forest around them was to the Eternal Forest that she was used to. With Lynn unsure of where to begin her journey, Penni offered to take her to a place he had explored previously, from before he had been able to manifest his true power. He explained that it perfect for her, as her strength would be greatly needed there. He then brought Lynn to Ellinel Fairy Academy in order to help the fairy students there.
Paeon the Life Guardian
Lynn quickly began growing stronger as she continued exploring Maple World, with Pan soon noting that the last Spirit Guide would definitely acknowledge her strength at her current level. Penni suggested that they first visit the Forest Master in order to check on her condition and flew them back to the Eternal Forest, where they found the path to the spring blocked by bramble monsters. Fearing that something had happened to the Spirit Guide, Lynn suggested taking care of the brambles before searching for the Spirit Guide right after. After defeating the monsters, the three pushed forward until Pan and Penni sensed someone nearby. Penni called out for them to reveal themselves, to which the wolf from Lynn's memories appeared before them, causing her to realize that he was the last Spirit Guide. As Pan attempted to recall the wolf's name aloud, Lynn suddenly recalled a memory of her earliest past life naming the wolf ‘Paeon', noting that it meant ‘cure', which she believed would suit him well as one who took care of the animals in the forest.[1] Lynn then called out Paeon's name, causing him to transform into his manifestation form. As she approached him, however, Paeon furiously demanded to know how long she planned to jerk him around, wondering whether this was the cost of having a name. Pan quickly retorted by asking Paeon why he was behaving so harshly, to which Paeon told Pan that their life was a curse. He then asked Pan to think about whether he was truly following his own will by helping Lynn, or whether he even had any choice in the matter at all.
Upon hearing Paeon's words, Penni realized that Paeon fully remembered his past lives, even while the other Spirit Guides didn't. As Paeon turned to leave, Lynn called after him, causing him to pause. Lynn then explained that though her memory of her past lives was still patchy, she knew that she hadn't been a good person in all her previous incarnations. However, she entreated Paeon to realize that she wasn't like them, and to think of her as just Lynn. Despite Lynn's words, Paeon retorted that he had nothing more to say to her before continuing on his way. In desperation, Lynn revealed that the Forest Master was in danger, causing Paeon to stop once again. Lynn then asked Paeon to help her until the Forest Master awakened once again. After a pause, Paeon asked Lynn what exactly she needed him to do, to which Lynn explained that she needed to awaken as the Forest Child, and that he knew just as well as her that she needed his help in order to do so. Paeon considered Lynn's words for a moment before telling her to lead the way, much to everyone's surprise and delight. The group traveled to the Samsara Spring, where they found that the Forest Master had grown even smaller. Lynn tearfully rushed to the small deer and hugged her tightly before asking her why she continued growing even tinier. Suddenly, Lynn was consumed by another memory of her past life naming Paeon, in which Paeon expressed his reluctance at someone like him being named after a word that meant ‘cure'. Paeon noted that such a name suited her better, as the Forest Child's power was to heal others. However, Lynn's past life explained that healing others wasn't limited to simply healing their injuries, though Paeon thought to himself that it wasn't the kind of name that seemed suitable to a wandering wolf, though he decided that he would accept it nevertheless.
Lynn's past life then told the Spirit Guides that if it hadn't been for them, she would still be nothing more than a blacksmith's daughter, to which Pan replied that it was only thanks to her that there was light in the forest, as that was how they had all woken up from their slumber. Lynn's past life thanked Pan for his kind words before turning to Paeon, addressing him as the Life Guardian, and asked him to continue protecting the forest so that they could continue meeting in the future across all their lifetimes. She then prayed that she would be able to continue calling their names in the future, and to be able to always choose her own destiny, to which Paeon smiled and agreed. Suddenly, the memory changed to another past life of Lynn's, in which she overheard two people speaking at a Jianghu marketplace. One passerby noted that the Forest Master's antlers were quite precious, and that it was said to be potent enough to replace the need for longevity herbs. The other replied that they had heard that it held power that could match the former Dark Forest Master – an Ancient God himself. Lynn's past life then took out an antler stolen from the Forest Master and laughed to herself that she would become the richest businesswoman in the world with it. She then looked at a wounded Paeon at her feet, just as he had appeared in Lynn's fuzzy memories, and told him to leave immediately. Though Paeon begged her to stop, Lynn's past life merely dismissed him and retorted that he should have remembered that it was only natural that animals who could speak would be destroyed.
With the memory ending, Lynn jumped in shock upon seeing what her past life had done. With the Forest Master asleep once again, Lynn reassured the others that she was fine. Pan apologized to Lynn for almost saying Paeon's name earlier when they had first encountered him, to which Lynn told him not to apologize, reminding him of what he himself had told her before about not worrying about things that hadn't happened yet. As she spoke, she recalled a memory of her first life telling Peon the same thing, noting that even if the Great Tree that brought rain were to fall, the fact that they could no longer be reincarnated through its power wouldn't change the fact that they were all there together in the present. Despite recalling the reassurance of her past life, Lynn nevertheless remained disturbed by the memory of Paeon's injured state, wondering what her past life had done to him. She noted to herself that even though it had been something that a past life had done, she nevertheless felt guilty about the pain she had caused him. However, Lynn then realized that in spite of all that, Paeon had still chosen to help her now. She then turned to Paeon and told him that Pan had told her to come to the forest, and that she had found Penni at the request of the Forest Master, while she had remembered his name only by chance. She explained that she was only just starting to find her own path, and that she would choose to be the Forest Child for herself, not for anyone else, which meant that she would call out his name with pride. She then asked him to remember that she wasn't like the ones whom he had met in their past lives, as she was Lynn now – the Forest Child that he had been looking for. Paeon noted to himself that though he had been deceived by her words in the past, he had still continued to hope that he would find the Forest Child by some chance. Despite knowing that he shouldn't trust so easily, Paon nevertheless told Lynn that he would continue staying by her side until the Forest Master opened her eyes once again.
Joining the Alliance
As Lynn continued training in Maple World, Penni flew to her and asked whether she had ever heard of Athena Pierce of the Bowman Instructional School, explaining that she had helped patch him up after a novice bowman had accidentally shot an arrow at him. Upon seeing Lynn's concern, Penni reassured her that it had happened a long time ago, and that he had already healed. He explained that he was planning to visit Athena in order to thank her, and that he wanted Lynn to come with him. At the Bowman Instructional School, Lynn and Penni met with Athena, who was pleased to see that Penni's wing had healed. Penni thanked her for helping him, to which Athena told him that she was merely doing her job as an instructor by taking responsibility for her pupil's mistake. Penni and Lynn then introduced themselves to Athena, with Penni finally able to tell his name to Athena after Lynn had remembered it. Penni then noticed that Athena seemed rather preoccupied and asked her whether something was wrong. After a pause, Athena asked Lynn and Penni whether they had heard of the Alliance forming against the Black Mage. Upon seeing Lynn's confusion, Athena noted that it seemed to be the first time that Lynn was hearing about the Black Mage or the Alliance. She explained that the Alliance had quite a bit of support already, though progress was still going slowly. Seeing an opportunity to help others, Lynn offered to lend her support to the Alliance, to which a pleasantly surprised Athena told her that she would send a message to Ereve to expect Lynn's arrival.
As Lynn began setting off, Pan noted that he had never heard of Ereve before and asked Paeon whether he knew anything about it, to which Paeon remained silent in confusion. Penni then explained that Ereve was a floating island and offered to take them there aboard his back. In Ereve, Lynn arrived at the Empress' Resting Spot, which was empty except for a resting Shinsoo. Upon seeing Shinsoo, Lynn felt a strange sensation, as though Shinsoo was inexplicably familiar to her. Shinsoo immediately recognized Lynn as the Forest Child, causing Lynn to ask in surprise whether Shinsoo knew her. However, Shinsoo merely replied cryptically that for someone who has lived as long as she had, one would know everything, whether they wished to or not. She then laughed and assured Lynn that she hadn't meant to imply anything about her. Just then, Cygnus arrived and introduced herself to Lynn. She noted that she had heard that Lynn wished to join the Alliance, though she added that she first needed to ask whether Lynn had heard anything about the Black Mage, to which Lynn replied that she hadn't. Cygnus explained that the Black Mage was an evil Transcendent who had destroyed Maple World centuries ago, and that he had been stopped by brave Heroes, who – despite their best efforts – had only been able to seal him away. With the seal finally broken, Cygnus explained that the Black Mage and his forces of darkness were returning to Maple World, for which the Cygnus Knights – knowing that they couldn't face the threat alone – had gathered together allies from across the world to their Alliance. Though she confessed that the journey wouldn't be easy, Cygnus promised that the Alliance would stand behind Lynn if she joined their ranks, to which Lynn immediately accepted, vowing that she would do whatever she could to help.
Facing Hypnos
After training in Maple World, Lynn and the Spirit Guides realized that they had grown much stronger together. Because of this, they decided to return to the Eternal Forest in order to awaken the Forest Master. Immediately upon arriving at the Samsara Spring, however, Paeon sensed something and transformed into his manifestation form in order to attack an Eternal Rest Brand nearby. Just as Paeon destroyed the curse monster, a dark power began speaking aloud in fragments, declaring that eternal slumber would descend upon the forest. Pan quickly recognized that he had heard the voice before, while Paeon looked to a shaken Lynn, who told him that she was fine. Together, Lynn and the Spirit Guides fought against the Eternal Rest curse monsters invading the spring. As they fought, Pan noted that the dark voice seemed tantalizingly familiar to him, though his head began to hurt every time he tried to remember it. He then wondered how the curse monsters could have entered the spring, to which Penni realized that they must have taken advantage of the Forest Master's weakness. After taking care of the monsters, however, Pan suddenly remembered the reason that the forest had grown sick, explaining that it wasn't because the Forest Master had fallen asleep. Just then, a curse monster attempted to grab Penni from below, who quickly managed to escape. Penni noted that it seemed as though the monsters had been eating away at the forest, causing Pan to lament the fact that he hadn't realized it at all, despite having been spent so much time at the spring with the Forest Master.
Penni told Pan that it wasn't his fault, noting that their inability to remember anything about the curse monsters was all because of the voice, which had erased all their memories pertaining to it. Paeon then apologized and explained that it was also partially his fault, as he – being able to remember more about his past lives than the other Spirit Guides – had overlooked it completely. Suddenly, the dark voice called out again, declaring that now was the perfect time, for when the forest would cast its shadow, eternal slumber would descend upon it. Upon hearing his voice, Lynn instinctually recalled the fact that the dark voice belonged to a being known as Hypnos. Suddenly, Hypnos' dark energy began surging throughout the forest, causing his Eternal Rest mark to appear on the sleeping Forest Master, much to everyone's shock. Though Lynn fervently attempted to use her healing abilities, she was unable to erase the curse mark, which caused the Forest Master to grow even smaller and weaker. Overcome with guilt, Lynn tearfully apologized to the Forest Master for being unable to keep her promise and call out the Forest Master's name, believing that it was because of her that the Forest Master's power couldn't circulate. She then told the Forest Master that she should have been kinder in her past lives if something like this was going to happen.
Suddenly, Lynn was flooded with a memory of a past life, old and dying, resting against the Forest Master by the Great Tree. Coughing, Lynn's past life joked good-naturedly that for all the healing that she'd done, there was no cure for old age. The Forest Master told Lynn's past life to rest easy, noting that her breathing was getting more ragged. Lynn's past life then noted that the Forest Master had worked just as hard, noting that she was the Spirit Guide of an old backwoods healer like herself, though she confessed that no matter who heard it, everyone would laugh at her for it. However, the Forest Master told Lynn's past life that in the Eternal Forest, no one could ever laugh at her, not even herself. Lynn's past life smiled at the Forest Master's words before asking her a question, addressing her as Gaia, though the memory ended before Lynn could see the rest. As the memory faded away, Lynn realized that the Forest Master's name was Gaia and called out to her, causing Gaia to transform back to her normal size in her manifestation form. Lynn tearfully hugged Gaia, who smiled and asked Lynn to call out her name again. As Lynn did, Gaia returned her embrace and assured her that she was here by her side. Lynn immediately began to apologize for being too late, to which Gaia told her that there was no need to be sorry, as she was grateful for everything. To everyone's shock, however, Gaia suddenly began shrinking and collapsing in exhaustion. A surprised Lynn wondered why the Eternal Rest brand on Gaia hadn't disappeared, despite having called her name, and whether it could be because of Hypnos' curse.
She once again hugged Gaia tightly and begged her not to close her eyes, noting that it wasn't fair that someone as pure as Gaia would meet such a fate. Upon seeing Lynn's good heart, Paeon came close to her and apologized for not believing in her before, explaining that because he had missed the versions of her that he'd grown close to in his past lives, he hadn't wanted to acknowledge anyone else. However, he admitted that no matter what Lynn looked like, she was still his – and everyone else's – Forest Child. Lynn then asked Paeon why he was speaking in such a way, to which he explained that it was because he needed to take responsibility. Lynn and the other Spirit Guides immediately begged Paeon not to sacrifice himself, to which Paeon merely smiled and told them not to give him such a look, adding that the power that he had gained from Gaia ought to be returned back to her. He explained that he was going to disappear someday no matter what, and that he would simply be leaving a bit earlier this way. As Paeon's body began fading away, he noted that Lynn's past life had once given him his name, which meant ‘cure'. He explained that at the time, he hadn't understood why it represented him, though he now realized that his role was to heal and protect the forest through sacrifice. As Lynn and the others continued begging him to stop, Paeon asked Lynn to remember what she was protecting, and to tell Gaia that he was sorry. With Paeon disappearing completely, a mournful Lynn declared that she wanted to protect with her own strength and will. In that instant, Lynn's determination allowed her to fully awaken as the Forest Child, causing her immense power to restore both Paeon and Gaia, who both returned to their original manifestation forms.
As Lynn awakened, she recalled the rest of her memory with her past life passing away by Gaia's side, in which Lynn's past life continued asking her question to Gaia – whether Gaia would find her in her next life, joking that she was growing worried over everything in her old age. Gaia promised Lynn's past life that she would, and that the Spirit Guides would surely find Lynn's next incarnation if Gaia herself couldn't, calling Lynn's past life ‘child' as she did. Lynn's past life laughed that she was still a child to Gaia at her age, to which Gaia noted that Lynn's past life would always be her – and the forest's – child. Lynn's past life then smiled and told Gaia that she was glad to be the Forest Child, just as she closed her eyes and passed away, with Gaia shedding a tear as the memory ended, with Hypnos' voice cutting through. Hypnos declared that the ignorance of being bound by mere memory was always the same. He then proclaimed that now that he had stepped foot into the Dark Forest, everything had become meaningless. Arriving at the Samsara Spring at last, Hypnos – a black and purple deer with bramble-like horns – spoke aloud to Gaia and told her that it was time to put an end to their relationship once and for all before unleashing purple flames that burned down the Great Tree at the center of the spring. Though Lynn was unable to remember much about Hypnos besides his name, she was nevertheless able to feel the immense malevolence inside him, causing her to recall that Hypnos had once attacked the Samsara Spring in the past in order to destroy Gaia, and that she and the other Spirit Guides had stopped him.
Vowing that she would protect everyone once again, Lynn warned Hypnos to stay away from Gaia, to which Hypnos disdainfully told Lynn to keep his name out of her filthy mouth, noting that the eyes of her current incarnation held the same disgusting look after so many ages. However, he explained that he had, at last, come to realize that the source of her rebirth was never in the spring, but rather, it was in the tree. He then declared that he would destroy it completely in order to break the reincarnation cycle and punish Gaia for disrupting his rule of order. Lynn and the Spirit Guides then engaged in a fierce battle against Hypnos and managed to defeat him. Despite their victory, however, they were shocked to find that Gaia had begun to disappear with the destruction of the Great Tree. As she began to fade, Gaia smiled and noted that they still couldn't remember the first time they had met, as awakening didn't fully restore all their memories. However, she told them that when they had first met, their bright eyes and strong faith had brought light to the Dark Forest, allowing the life within to breathe freely by becoming the forest's key. Gaia then turned to Lynn and explained that though humans couldn't go on forever, she didn't regret a moment of waiting to see Lynn's incarnations over and over again. She then told Lynn that her past life's choice to abandon her and the Spirit Guides wasn't Lynn's choice, which meant that she didn't blame her for any of it. She reminded Lynn that without her, the forest's power would have grown stagnant and corrupted, and that it may have withered away long ago. She then smiled and reminded Lynn that they were destined to meet again in the future, which was enough for her. However, Lynn tearfully claimed that she wouldn't accept it, as there had to be a way for her to change things. Gaia gently replied that it was simply their destiny, as not even all their power gathered together could bring back the reincarnation cycle now that it had been severed permanently.
Penni told Gaia not to feel sorry, joking that he had gotten sick of living forever anyway. Addressing him as the Sky Guardian, Gaia asked Penni to continue flying freely with the life that remained to him, to which Penni agreed without hesitation. Gaia then told the Spirit Guides that she seemed to have nothing but apologies for them, though Paeon told her not to say sorry. Gaia turned to Paeon and asked him whether he remembered asking her once why he was the Life Guardian with so much blood on his fangs, adding that it was justice that he carried out to protect the life in the forest. Gaia then turned to Pan, calling him her friend, sharing a simple exchange of looks until Pan's tearful face began to smile. As Gaia began to fade away completely, Lynn mournfully asked her what she should do if she were to miss Gaia in the future, to which Gaia told her that even if her body were to disappear, her soul would be with them forever. Nuzzling Lynn with her nose, she asked Lynn to dry her tears, promising that they would meet again someday in the distant future. With that, Gaia disappeared, with her life force scattering away. Though Lynn wished to mourn Gaia, she told herself not to cry, noting that Gaia had wanted her to be happy. In the aftermath of Gaia's death, Penni noted that they all still had work to do if they were going to make the most of their last life together. Upon hearing Penni's words, Lynn realized that even if she were to regain some memories of her past lives, she would likely never regain them all back. Nevertheless, she realized that she no longer felt regret about what she couldn't remember, as she only felt relief about saving the forest and grief over losing Gaia. Together, she and the other Spirit Guides smiled and decided that they would live freely and do something good with the life that Gaia had given them, nothing that this was not the end, but a new beginning.
Temple of Time
While exploring the Temple of Time, Lynn's memories were drained by Dodo. After being told by the Memory Keeper to return to where her adventure began, Lynn wondered where the Memory Keeper was referring to, and whether it was at her hut or the Samsara Spring. However, Pan told Lynn that there was no need to return to the Eternal Forest, as he was right there with her. Penni agreed and noted that the Spirit Guide who had started on her adventure together with her was standing by her, which meant that she didn't need to go to the Eternal Forest to recall the start of her journey. Lynn realized that they were right and began recalling how Pan had been beside her, holding her hand when she had been afraid of entering the forest, and how he now felt just like home to her.
Final Quest
As Lynn reached her full potential, Paeon felt a breath of spring at the Samsara Spring and asked Lynn to follow him there. There, Lynn noted that she could feel a warm wind. As they began looking around, Lynn unconsciously felt the familiar sensation of Gaia, though she found no one there when she turned around in surprise. Believing that she must have been mistake, Lynn decided to move on when, all of a sudden, a blue-green lotus flower appeared with its petals closed. Lynn and the others immediately recognized the lotus as the same one where Gaia had slumbered, causing them to realize that Gaia's soul truly was amongst them. Though Lynn was happy to know that Gaia was with them, she nevertheless felt sorrow upon realizing how much she missed her.
Fifth Job Advancement
Upon entering the Erda Flow and meeting with the Goddess of Maple World, the Goddess asks the player what it is that they cherish most in the world. Lynn gets to choose between the Spirit Guides or the Eternal Forest.
Black Heaven
On the day of the operation, Lynn was about to board with the other Spirit Guides when she stopped and paused. Pan asked Lynn whether something was wrong, with Paeon reassuring Lynn that everything would be fine with them at her side. Lynn teasingly asked Paeon to repeat what he had said, to which Penni noted that Lynn had already heard perfectly, after which, Lynn thanked Paeon for his kind words. Lynn then noted to herself that there were many more things for her to protect, and that it didn't feel like a burden to her at all, as she would do whatever it took to help restore peace and stability to everyone's lives. Realizing that the Spirit Guides would always be her side, she happily declared that it was time for them to go, to which the Spirit Guides smiled before following her aboard the Lumiere.
Vanishing Journey
After the player defeats Arma, Kao will speak to the player while being carried through the cave. Kao asks Lynn if she remembers when she had awakened with the power of the Seal Stone. Kao recalls her own life, and how she had shouldered the responsibility to save another dimension instead of her own.[2] Though she hadn't shown it, Kao notes that it must have weighted on herself, and for good reason, as it was someone else's world and not her own. However, Kao adds that she had taken her responsibilities seriously, and though she wants to say that her heart had been true, she finds that she's not sure anymore. She then wonders whether there's someone better than her who can actually save the world. Kao then supposes that she had lost her worthiness the moment that her faith had wavered.

Labyrinth of Suffering (Pre-Remaster)
After Cygnus tells Neinheart that she will lead the fleet into Tenebris in the Adversary's place, Lynn gets exclusive dialogue, in which she notes to herself that she can sense the Empress' resolve and will. She then thinks to herself that together with the Spirit Guides, she'll be able to protect Maple World, promising that she'll do it.
When the player first meets with Azalin - Hilla disguised as a Night Walker - she notes that Lynn has done many great things throughout her journey and wonders whether it's because she had lived in the forest her whole life, and had only just come out from that ‘ivory tower' to the wider world not long ago. She then asks Lynn whether she's so reckless that she's willing to sacrifice herself, to which Lynn wonders what she's trying to say. Azalin then asks if she's touched a nerve before saying that she had merely been thinking out loud.
After the Adversary collapses into despair as a result of Hilla's machinations, they pass out in a void of darkness within their own mind. As their morale and strength threaten to diminish completely, the mysterious divine light speaks to them in the form of someone close to them and provides them motivation to continue. For Lynn, the voice of Gaia addresses Lynn as the one who has reached the end of samsara and become the last Forest Child. She asks Lynn why she risks her life to save others when her time left in the world is limited. Lynn tells her that the wider world of Maple World is where she had first set foot with Penni's help, and that she can still clearly remember the way that the breeze had first ruffled her hair. She explains that Maple World is now a place full of precious memories and precious people, and that she wants to protect them all. Gaia pauses and notes that there are many places that still need Lynn's help and asks her what she would say to that. After a pause, Lynn begins to say hopelessly that everyone – all the people who had put their faith her – are already dead. She realizes that the tragedy will just keep repeating itself, and that there's nothing she can do about it. Lynn then blames herself for being powerless, to which Gaia tells her that it may not be the case before entreating Lynn to open her eyes, calling them the eyes that everybody loves to see. She notes that Lynn's path is one that she has chosen for herself, and that her path is true. Upon hearing this, Lynn immediately recognizes the voice as belonging to Gaia. As she regains her determination, she feels a warm light inside of her created from the wishes of all the people whom she protected. As she basks in the warmth, she recalls that it is the same feeling from Black Heaven. Feeling the presence of all her loved ones with them, Lynn regains consciousness as the Seal Stone activates from her powerful determination. As she does, Gaia calls to Lynn as ‘child', telling her that it's time to wake up, as everything had just been a nightmare.

Limina (Pre-Remaster)
When the Adversary faces the Black Mage, he tells them that their path has always been preordained. In response to his words, Lynn vows that she'll transcend the destiny that the Black Mage has created. This dialogue is identical to what all other classes say, and unlike other classes, Lynn does not receive any additional exclusive dialogue after this part.
In the final act of Limina, the Adversary (your character) dies after defeating the Black Mage. The Adversary wakes up in the Erda Flow, serving as the afterlife, where the White Mage thanks you for putting an end to the battle. After the conversation, he gives you a unique title based on your class; the title he gives to Lynn is "Conqueror of Destiny".
After the battle of Tenebris, the Adversary will meet with Neinheart and several members of the Alliance, which is dependent on the player's class. Unlike other classes, Lynn does not receive any exclusive dialogue in this section, and instead, Cygnus will directly give her the Defying Destiny medal.
Aftermath
After the battle with the Black Mage, Lynn and the Spirit Guides returned home to the Eternal Forest, where they visited the Samsara Spring. There, Paeon told Pan and Penni that he wanted to speak privately to Lynn and asked for a moment of privacy. After Pan and Penni left, Paeon turned to Lynn and told her that long ago, he had once asked Gaia whether she felt wronged about being tied down the forest, and whether her destiny felt like a punishment. However, he revealed that Gaia had instead given him a happy, genuine smile to show him that she truly accepted all of it. Because of this, he explained that he wouldn't regret anything either – even the fact that they had no more reincarnations left. He then laughed and noted that everything seemed to have changed, as even destiny now had a different meaning for them. After a pause, he thanked Lynn for everything that she had done. Lynn was surprised at Paeon's words and noted to herself that though she had much that she wanted to say, it was hard for her to form the words, as she wanted to be sincere enough to match the ones that Paeon had said to her. Thinking more about it, Lynn realized that just as Paeon had said, samsara could be seen as a destiny of punishment to the Forest Children. However, she then decided that none of mattered anymore, as it was all in the past. She noted to herself that even if it were to happen again and again, she would accept it no matter what, as long as the Spirit Guides were by her side. After a pause, Lynn smiled and gave Paeon a sincere thanks, to which Paeon grinned back. In the distance, Gaia's soul happily watched Lynn and Paeon find peace at last.
Convergence
Lynn gets exclusive dialogue during the White Mage's explanation about the Ancient Gods. When the White Mage talks about how the will of the world sought to eradicate the chaos of the Ancient Gods, Lynn notes to herself that the White Mage's explanation has made her think of something. The White Mage continues on by explaining how the will of the world's chains of law had suppressed the Ancient Gods and their creations, to which Lynn begins thinking on the word ‘Ancient God'. When the White Mage talks about the possibility of the Ancient Gods reawakening and creating an unpredictable future, Lynn – thinking about the Ancient Gods – realizes that Hypnos is an Ancient God as well.
