The Scroll Enhancement UI.

Scroll Enhancement is an Equipment Enhancement system allowing players to increase an Equipment item's stats based on the number of Scroll Enhancements it has available. Typically, higher level Equipment allows for more Scroll Enhancements. Almost all Scrolls will consume a Scroll Enhancement for each enhancement attempt, with the exception of Potential Scrolls and Equipment Enhancement Scrolls.

In Heroic / Reboot Worlds, Scroll Enhancements are unavailable with the exception of Scrolls that do not consume Scroll Enhancements, such as Potential Scrolls.

Overview

Equipment with Scroll Enhancements available can be upgraded with Spell Trace Scrolls or Special Scrolls to greatly increase the stats of that Equipment, with higher level Equipment typically allowing for more Scroll Enhancements and receiving higher stat increases from Spell Trace Scrolls.

Spell Trace Scrolls

Spell Trace Scrolls are a type of Scroll introduced in the You & I / Rising Heroes Update in 2014, replacing the original Usable-Item Scroll System. Spell Traces are Etc. items that are obtained through various sources in-game, such as monsters, Major Bosses, various NPC shops, Treasures, and Quests. These can be traded with other players and are sometimes given out as event rewards. Spell Traces were introduced as a way to simplify the scrolling process. These are generic and the same Spell Trace Scrolls can be used to scroll almost any piece of equipment.

Spell Trace Scrolls can apply several varieties of Spell Trace Scrolls on Equipment: 100%, 70%, 30%, and 15%. These Success Rates can be increased through various means such as the Diligence Trait and the Enhancement Mastery Guild Skill. The Spell Traces consumed and stats increased will vary depending on the level and type of equipment. Generally, higher equipment level and lower success rates will cost more spell traces but provide higher stat boosts.

Supplementary Spell Trace Scrolls

Spell Traces can also be used to apply the following Recovery / Reset Scrolls:

  • Pure Clean Slate Scroll 100%: These can restore any failed Scroll Enhancement slots on a piece of equipment.
  • Innocence Scroll 100%: These can completely reset all the Scroll Enhancements and Star Force Enhancements on a piece of Equipment, while maintaining Potential Stats, Bonus Potential Stats, Bonus Stats from Rebirth Flames, and Soul Weapon Stats.
  • Ark Innocence Scroll 100%: Similar to the above, but also maintains Star Force Enhancements.

In Heroic / Reboot Worlds, Spell Traces do not serve any function, and can be sold to an NPC shop for 5,000 Mesos each.

Spell Trace Fever

Every weekend, Spell Trace Fever occurs from Friday at 12:00 AM to Sunday at 11:59 PM Server Time, increasing the Success Rates for Spell Trace Scrolls as follows:

Normal Success Rate Spell Trace Fever Success Rate
100% 100% (unchanged)
70% 95%
30% 45%
15% 25%

In JapanMS, Spell Trace Fever only occurs on certain Sundays.

Spell Trace Fever is also available at all times for players at MVP / VIP Gold tier and above.

In addition, certain Sunny Sundays reduce the cost of Spell Trace Enhancements by 50%.

Regular Scrolls

Non-Spell Trace Scrolls, known as Regular Scrolls or Special Scrolls, are the original form of Scroll Enhancement that existed prior to Spell Trace Scrolls, and can be found in a multitude of ways in-game. Players can obtain certain scrolls as drops from monsters, buy them from certain NPCs, earn them as quest rewards, or buy them from other players. Additionally, players can obtain more powerful, limited-availability Scrolls from events.

Most Scrolls will only work on one type of Equipment. For instance, a Scroll for Two-Handed Sword for ATT 60% will only work on Two-handed Swords, and will not work on similar Equipment such as One-handed Swords or Two-handed Axes. The one exception to this is the Android Heart, which allows for any Weapon or Armor-based Scroll to be used on it. A Scroll is removed from the player's inventory after use regardless of its success or failure, and some Scrolls will cause the item to vanish upon failure. Traditional Scrolls came in success rates of 100%, 70%, 65%, 60%, 30%, 15%, and 10%, with lower success rates yielding higher stat increases. Scrolls with 70%, 65%, and 60% success rate all granted the same stat increase, but 70% success rate Scrolls came with a 50% chance for the item to completely vanish upon failure; similarly, scrolls with 30%, 15%, and 10% success rate all granted the same stat increase, but 30% success rate Scrolls came with a 50% chance for the item to vanish upon failure. Some events and content would grant Scrolls that grant the stat increase of a 10% - 30% Scroll or a 60% - 70% Scroll, but with a 100% success rate.

With the exception of some particularly powerful scrolls, this method of enhancement has been replaced with Spell Trace Scrolls.

Chaos Scrolls

Unlike regular Scrolls and Spell Traces Scrolls, Chaos Scrolls give random stat boosts to a piece of Equipment. However, certain Chaos Scrolls can decrease the power of the player's equipment.

  • Chaos Scroll: Upon success, reconfigures Equipment stats as follows (Max HP and Max MP are increased by 10x the values):
    • -5 at a 4.94% chance
    • -4 at a 2.97% chance
    • -3 at a 3.65% chance
    • -2 at a 8.0% chance
    • -1 at a 13.7% chance
    • +0 at an 18.38% chance
    • +1 at a 19.31% chance
    • +2 at a 15.87% chance
    • +3 at a 10.21% chance
    • +4 at a 1.98% chance
    • +5 at a 0.99% chance
  • Incredible Chaos Scroll: A more powerful version of the regular Chaos Scroll, Upon success, reconfigures Equipment stats as follows (Max HP and Max MP are increased by 10x the values):
    • -6 at a 4.94% chance
    • -4 at a 2.97% chance
    • -3 at a 3.65% chance
    • -2 at a 8.0% chance
    • -1 at a 13.7% chance
    • +0 at an 18.38% chance
    • +1 at a 19.31% chance
    • +2 at a 15.87% chance
    • +3 at a 10.21% chance
    • +4 at a 1.98% chance
    • +6 at a 0.99% chance
  • Chaos Scroll of Goodness: A type of Chaos Scroll that will not decrease Equipment stats. Upon success, reconfigures Equipment stats as follows (Max HP and Max MP are increased by 10x the values):
    • +0 at an 18.38% chance
    • +1 at a 33.01% chance
    • +2 at a 23.87% chance
    • +3 at a 13.87% chance
    • +4 at a 4.94% chance
    • +5 at a 5.93% chance
  • Incredible Chaos Scroll of Goodness: One of the most powerful scrolls in the game. Upon success, reconfigures Equipment stats as follows (Max HP and Max MP are increased by 10x the values):
    • +0 at an 18.38% chance
    • +1 at a 33.01% chance
    • +2 at a 23.87% chance
    • +3 at a 13.87% chance
    • +4 at a 4.94% chance
    • +6 at a 5.93% chance

Chaos Scrolls cannot add or modify any stat does not already exist on a piece of Equipment. The player must introduce a missing stat, usually Weapon Attack or Magic Attack, through other Scrolls or Bonus Stats before applying a Chaos Scroll. By using Chaos Scrolls, it is possible to obtain equipment with very high Weapon Attack or Magic Attack that would otherwise not have it.

Exclusive Scrolls

Certain Scrolls can only be used on specific Equipment items, usually granting a higher amount of stats compared to regular Scrolls. A few of the more notable ones are as follows:

Supplementary Special Scrolls

The following Special Scrolls don't directly enhance your Equipment's stats, but will either increase your success rates, protect your Equipment, or reset / recover your Equipment's Scroll Enhancements.

  • Pure Clean Slate Scrolls: Available in 1/3/5/10/20% success rates, Pure Clean Slate scrolls restore a failed upgrade slot to a piece of equipment if it succeeds. Crucial to fully scrolling a piece of equipment, Pure Clean Slate Scrolls are readily available through the Elite Boss system in the game, as well as other content such as Ursus.
  • Innocence / Perfect Innocence Scroll: These scrolls, available through in game events and sold in the Cash Shop, completely reset a piece of equipment to base stats. They restore all upgrade slots, remove all Vicious Hammers used, reset scrolled stats to 0, and remove all enhancements from a piece of gear. Usually these are used when the player decide it is time to upgrade the player's equipment without replacing it. Note that these will not reset Potentials or boss souls.
  • Lucky Day Scroll: These scrolls are extremely rare in the game. When used on an Equipment item, they increase the success rate of the next Scroll (both Spell Trace Scrolls and Non-Spell Trace Scrolls) by 10% (additive). Due to their rarity, they are not always available to use.
  • Shielding Ward: These scrolls, sold in the Cash Shop, protect the player's Equipment from vanishing if the next Scroll with a chance to vanish fails. Shielding Wards are used up regardless of whether the Scroll succeeds or fails, and only applies to the next Scroll used. Does not work on Superior Equipment or Equipment with 12 or more Star Force.
  • Guardian Scroll: These scrolls, sold in the Cash Shop, protect the player's Scroll from being used up if it fails. Guardian Scrolls will be used up regardless of whether or not the next Scroll succeeds, so they are generally reserved for the rarest of Scrolls.
  • Shield Scroll: These scrolls, sold in the Cash Shop, work like preemptive Pure Clean Slate Scrolls. If one is used on a piece of Equipment, it keeps the Scroll Enhancement count from decreasing if the next Scroll (both Spell Trace Scrolls and Non-Spell Trace Scrolls).
  • Return Scroll: These scrolls, sold in the Cash Shop, only work with Scrolls that have stat variance, such as Chaos Scrolls, Magical Scrolls, Premium Scrolls for Accessories, or Premium Scrolls for Pet Equipment. If one is used on a piece of Equipment before using a stat-varying Scroll, it will allow the player to decide whether to keep the stats from the Scroll or not. These are the most effective way to guarantee maximum stat gains from these Scrolls, but this method can be very expensive.

Increasing Success Rate

There are several ways to increase the success rate of Scroll Enhancements:

  • Lucky Day Scrolls: Increases the success rate of the next Scroll (both Spell Trace Scrolls and Non-Spell Trace Scrolls) by 10% of the base success rate (multiplicative), rounded down to the nearest 1%p, but is rare in-game.
  • Diligence: Increasing your Diligence trait will increase the success rate of Scrolls depending on its level. With Level 100 Diligence, the success rate will be increased by +10% (additive), but will not apply to certain Regular / Special Scrolls.
  • Enhancement Mastery: The Enhancement Mastery Guild Skill will increase the success rate of Scrolls by +4% (additive) at Level 4, but will not apply to certain Regular / Special Scrolls.

The following Scroll types will not be increased by Diligence or Enhancement Mastery:

Retired Systems

Hammers and Additional Scroll Enhancements

Prior to the NEXT / Post-NEXT / Post-Stargazer Update, players would have to apply special Hammers in order to increase the number of Scroll Enhancements available on an equipment item, with certain equipment such as Horntail Necklace, Mystic Horntail Necklace, Chaos Horntail Necklace, and Event Rings not being eligible for this. The types of Hammers are Golden Hammer (available from various in-game content and events), Vicious' Hammer (available in the Cash Shop), and Platinum Hammer (available from various in-game content and events; ChinaMS and TaiwanMS only). The rules for each server were as follows:

  • In KoreaMS, players could apply either 1 Golden Hammer or 1 Vicious' Hammer on eligible equipment items.
  • In GlobalMS and JapanMS, players could apply either 2 Golden Hammers or 2 Vicious' Hammers on eligible equipment items.
  • In MapleSEA, players could apply either 2 Vicious' Hammers, or 1 Golden Hammer first, followed by 1 Vicious' Hammer on eligible equipment items.
  • In ChinaMS and TaiwanMS, players could apply 1 Golden Hammer, 1 Vicious' Hammer, and 5 Platinum Hammers on eligible equipment items, with the Platinum Hammer's success rate decreasing for each additional slot:
    • 0→1: 50%
    • 1→2: 25%
    • 2→3: 10%
    • 3→4: 5%
    • 4→5: 2%

With the release of the post-NEXT / Stargazer Update, Golden Hammers have been phased out, and most equipment had its Scroll Enhancement slots increased by 1; GlobalMS had its slots increased by 2 instead of 1. Consuming Golden Hammers will allow players to instead receive Spell Traces proportional to the prior success rate of the Hammer; in JapanMS, players will receive a Vicious' Hammer instead of Spell Traces. Certain servers still have Scroll Enhancement Count increases available via Vicious' Hammer or Platinum Hammer. The rules for each server are as follows:

  • In JapanMS and MapleSEA, players can apply 1 Vicious' Hammer on eligible equipment items.
  • In ChinaMS and TaiwanMS, players can apply 1 Vicious' Hammer and 5 Platinum Hammers on eligible equipment items, with the Platinum Hammer's success rate decreasing for each additional slot:
    • 0→1: 50%
    • 1→2: 25%
    • 2→3: 10%
    • 3→4: 5%
    • 4→5: 2%
