The symbol of the Primacy

The Primacy is a Grandis-based militia formed to oppose Gerand Darmoor and the High Flora.

History

From the Shadows

Though very little is known about the Primacy, rumors about the organization and its existence had been spreading for several years before the convergence of Maple World and Grandis. The Primacy was founded as a paramilitary organization of soldiers and common people who opposed the rule of the High Flora, banding together between the borders of nations and races. Over the years, whispers about the resistance movement grew, with many considering the Primacy to be saviors of Grandis and usurpers of freedom who pointed their blades at "the bloodied throne" of the High Flora. With few resources and numbers, the Primacy primarily engaged in guerilla strikes against remote High Flora outposts, rather than striking at the heart of the High Flora nation. Despite facing the largest race on Grandis and the Transcendent of Life himself, the Primacy's reputation for their tenacity and boldness grew as news of their successful operations spread across Grandis. Because of this reputation, many across Grandis hoped to join the Primacy's ranks and aid them in the fight to reclaim Grandis' freedom. One instance of this was Kelly, a mechanic from Hotel Arcus who chased down rumor after rumor to track down the Primacy after the pestilence spread from the High Flora war resulted in the death of her friend Rusty's father. Additionally, the lost prince of Ristonia - Jerome - left to seek out the Primacy in order to join forces with them against the High Flora.

Alliance with an Ancient God

As news about the Primacy's reputation grew, an Ancient God named Gob sought out the militia after Gerand Darmoor attacked him and stole most of his divine power. Having seen the Primacy's abilities first-hand, Gob struck a deal with the Primacy, allowing them to use his hideout inside the dimensional frog Tyrnog in exchange for the Primacy serving as his bodyguards from Darmoor and his Apostles. As a result of this alliance, the Primacy - under the leadership of Captain Iker - obtained a secure base and the advanced technology of Gob, whose abilities as an Ancient God granted them powerful weapons against the High Flora. Together with Iker, the sniper Ailene, the information analyst Khafdi, and the mechanic Kelly served as part of an elite strike team that led the Primacy's operations against their enemies, often aided by Gob. Nevertheless, Gob considered the Primacy to be wild and extreme, with its members often disregarding him even within his own hideout. With Gob's aid, however, the Primacy continued carrying out their operations against the High Flora. One one such occasion, the Primacy tracked down Cosim, a member of the Angler Company and a child of the Company founder, while he was harvesting energy for his father in the Arcus desert. From a distance, Ailene shot Cosim, though Gob would go on to repair and aid him afterwards.

The Place Where the World Starts Again

After Darmoor and his Apostles began conducting raids across Maple World and Grandis to steal the power of the Ancient Gods, many in the realm began looking to the Primacy as saviors who would rally in opposition to the High Flora attacks on their homes. With the Primacy coming out of the shadows, Seren - soon after restoring the Holy Sword Azor in High Mountain - came across the Primacy during her travels and notified Carlisle that she had made contact with them. Seren then sent a coded message to Carlisle, in which she asked the Adversary to meet with the Primacy at "the place where the world starts again".

Attack on the Hideout

During one of the Primacy's routine guerrilla strikes on a remote High Flora outpost, a suspected information leak resulted in the High Flora learning about the Primacy's attack in advance. As a result, the Apostle Baldrix arrived with the High Flora army to ambush the Primacy, resulting in severe casualties to their numbers. Though the Primacy opened a dimensional portal to retreat back to Gob's hideout, Baldrix - using his powerful magic - opened his own portal to chase after the Primacy. However, the limited size of the portal allowed the Primacy to repel the High Flora, though the attack nevertheless damaged the dimensional machine powering the base, causing portals to randomly appear across Maple World and Grandis. In order to find allies to assist them, Gob and Kelly used their mechanical skills to limit the radius of the portals' appearances to a specific radius, allowing the Adversary and the Maple Alliance to enter one of the portals and assist them with repairs. Together, the Alliance worked alongside Gob and Kelly to fix the dimensional machine, though the Primacy - distrustful of the Alliance - monitored them from afar, refusing to directly involve themselves with a foreign group. Soon after the completion of repairs, the Primacy prepared to head for their next mission at Tallahart, the Grave of the Gods.

Grave of the Gods

At Tallahart, the Primacy arrived to find that Hawkeye was struggling against the magical monsters created by Baldrix, which rejuvenated upon being defeated. Using special bullets created by Gob, Ailene was able to neutralize the monsters before Iker ordered Hawkeye to lead them to the Adversary within the city. Inside, the Primacy met with the Adversary and ordered them to surrender the power of the gods, revealing that they wished to use that power to create weapons against the High Flora. With neither the Adversary nor the Primacy backing down, Hawkeye brokered an agreement to lend the Adversary's support to the Primacy for their operations against the High Flora, with the Primacy agreeing to help the Alliance against the Knights of the Einherjar who were sieging Tallahart under Baldrix. Together, the Primacy and Hawkeye covered the Adversary as they absorbed the power of the Ancient Gods within Tallahart inside the World Heart, leading to a confrontation against Baldrix, whom the Primacy hoped to get vengeance against after his massacre. After the Adversary forced Baldrix to retreat and claimed the full power of Tallahart, the Primacy decided to leave, though they reminded the Adversary about their earlier promise to help them with the power of the gods.

Organization

Location

The Primacy's hideout currently exists within a pocket dimension created by the Ancient God Gob. Because of the secure nature of the dimension, access is heavily restricted to only Gob, the Primacy, and those whom they allow to enter. Nevertheless, the Apostle Baldrix was able to use his magic to create a portal inside the hideout, though the Primacy was able to repel his army and secure the base once again. Despite this, however, most of the Primacy is rarely at base, as its members are scattered across Grandis on missions, leaving Kelly, Gob, and other non-combatants as the only full-time residents at headquarters.

Members

As a paramilitary organization, the Primacy is composed of ordinary people and mercenaries banded together against the High Flora. Though many in its ranks are soldiers, there are a number of non-combatants who assist the Primacy in other ways, such as mechanics and information agents. Due to the clandestine nature of the Primacy, joining the organization is quite difficult, often requiring one to chase down rumors and leads for months in order to find the Primacy's agents and enlist. The Primacy is currently led by Captain Iker, a soldier who hails from one of Grandis' moons. Together with his strike team - Ailene the sniper, Khafdi the information agent, and Kelly the mechanic - Iker's squad serves as the lead and vanguard of the Primacy's operations. Ailene is a sniper who serves as the second-in-command to Iker, whose irate personality often results in misunderstandings and conflicts with others, leaving Khafdi to mediate. Khafdi is a masked soldier who specializes in gathering classified information from the High Flora's Central Army. Several hints from exclusive dialogue with Flora classes suggests that Khafdi is a High Flora turncoat who hides his face in order to keep his true identity secret from his allies. Kelly is a mechanic from Hotel Arcus who serves as the engineering expert, building specialized weapons for her team and teleporting them in and out of the field.

Currently, the Primacy's only ally is Gob, who has established an arrangement with them to give them his hideout in exchange for their protection against Darmoor. However, following the battle at Tallahart, the Primacy has reluctantly forged an unofficial understanding with the Maple Alliance and the Adversary to unite against their common foe.

Trivia

  • There are several hints regarding the Primacy in various storylines:
    • In the Hotel Arcus side quests, it is revealed that Kelly - Rusty's friend from Hotel Arcus - had left in search of those who stood against the High Flora, with Kelly stating that she was seeking "them" out, implied to be the Primacy. This is confirmed in the Extradimensional Visitor and Tallahart storylines, which reveals that Kelly now serves as a mechanic for the Primacy.
    • In Adele's Aftermath cutscene, Jerome reveals to Adele that he is following rumors of a new resistance group which has formed in opposition to the High Flora.
      • Given the confirmation of Kelly's involvement with the Primacy, it is highly likely that Jerome will also appear alongside the Primacy in future storylines.
