The Drakas are a hitman company based in Toolen City. Led secretly by Dr. Y, the Drakas gained control over the city by using powerful Malice Stones and recruited members by stealing their memories and forcing them to work in order to get them back. Though the Drakas were nearly destroyed in an uprising by its own members, the company continues working in the shadows.

History

Founding

The Drakas were founded many years ago by Ypsilon, the Lord of Erimos and an Apostle of Gerand Darmoor. Through his ability to extract abstract concepts, Ypsilon extracted the memories of those who defaulted on their debts to the company, which he held hostage in the form of Memory Stones. In order to get their memories back, the defaulters were forcibly conscripted to work as assassins.

Hoping to seize the dormant power of the Ancient God, Satiras the Devil Dragon, Ypsilon led the High Flora army to attack a village, where he kidnapped two children named Luska and Kain. As the descendants of the once-feared Black Nova cult, the two children held the dormant power of Malice, which had been granted to the Black Nova by Satiras.

Malice Stones

After kidnapping the children, Ypsilon groomed Luska into becoming the Drakas boss in Toolen City. Meanwhile, he disguised himself as a psychiatrist named Dr. Y, which allowed him to extract the memories of company employees under the pretense of giving them psychiatric care in their work as assassins. In order to enslave the employees forever, Luska had Dr. Y implant false happy memories into them, which would motivate them to work harder, though their memories would be routinely wiped in order to continue making them believe that they had only been working for a short duration. All Drakas agents were also given a choker, which marked their locations at all times.

In his supporting role, Dr. Y was free to conduct his research on Malice and used Kain as the original template to create Malice Stones, which could be given to agents as powerful weapons in their work. Just like with the other employees, Dr. Y would routinely wipe Kain's memories so that Luska could keep tabs on him and freely converse with him without worrying about him learning that she was his sister. On one such occasion, Luska openly celebrated Kain's birthday during a private dinner before having Dr. Y extract the memory of the event. Meanwhile, Dr. Y would continue his research on Kain and his Malice under the guise of standard psychiatric evaluations that all employees received.

Taking Control

With the power of Malice Stones, the Drakas quickly began seizing control of Toolen City. Their activities soon put them at odds with the Biters, a local gang that often attempted to defy the Drakas and their rules. Eventually, the Drakas confronted the Biters, with a Regulator Sergeant warning them to vacate from the public facilities that they were illegally occupying.

Kudan, the leader of the Biters, refused to comply and ordered his goons to throw a party. Suddenly, the lights went out and Drakas agents arrived to wipe out the Biters. Kudan was the only one who managed to escape, but suddenly, Kain arrived to intercept him. After a skirmish, Kain returned to the other agents' location. Just then, he was contacted by Luska, who congratulated him on his work and invited him to dinner.

Following this incident, the Kudan and his thugs were forced underground and escaped to the west side of Toolen City, which was thick with fog that made breathing difficult. Nevertheless, Kudan remained determined to overthrow the Drakas and secretly began researching about Malice Stones, hoping to use their power to take back control of the city.

With the Drakas taking control of the city, many people in Toolen City began respecting them for restoring peace to their turbulent streets. Though Toolen City had its own community council that served as the municipality, the Drakas were seen as the true authority in the city, using their military power to enforce order throughout the area.

Drakas Uprising

Despite Dr. Y removing the memories of the Drakas agents, several hitman slowly began growing suspicious over whether they would truly be allowed to leave. One Drakas member named Tirag came to realize that if the company was ruthless enough to steal its members' memories in order to turn them into living weapons, then there was no way that they would ever let those weapons go. Because of this, Tirag hoped to overthrow Luska and seize control of the company for himself.

Tirag began covertly recruiting Drakas agents to his side, enticing them with the offer of taking control of the Drakas and using the Malice Stones to profit off the conflict that was broiling in Western Grandis, with the High Flora waging a war against the other races. Knowing that Kudan was interested in Malice Stones, Tirag and his allies began taking notes on everything that they knew about them, which they hoped to trade with Kudan in exchange for his support.

Soon after, the uprising hired a Suspicious Crow to deliver their notebook containing information on Malice Stones to Kudan. However, Kain encountered the crow while searching for two missing Anima children, who had been stolen an important Memory Stone from Dr. Y's office. After Kain cornered the crow, the crow used a Malice Stone to escape, dropping the notebook in the process. Several members of the uprising - including Guyu, Illin, and Vias - watched Kain hand the notebook to the Regulator Sergeant, realizing that the situation had turned for the worse.

Hoping to recover the notebook, Tirag cornered Kain at his locker and attempted to recruit him to the uprising, though Kain flatly denied him and explained that he had already turned in the notebook that Tirag was looking for. Furious, Tirag hoped to eliminate Kain as an obstacle by implicating him as a traitor.

Meanwhile, Kain began suspecting that his memories were being stolen. Upon meeting the Anima siblings, he learned that they had been hired by Kudan to recover the original Malice Stone, and that the Memory Stone which they had stolen contained his memories. Hoping to make a deal with them, Kain offered to help them break into Dr. Y's office in exchange for the Memory Stone.

The three then broke into Dr. Y's office, where Kain managed to obtain Dr Y's notes on Malice Stones. As security began converging on their location, Kain took the research notes and told them to tell Kudan that he would return and trade the notes for the Memory Stone. Around the same time, Tirag put his plan into motion in order to frame Kain. He ordered Guyu to steal a number of Malice Stones while Kain broke into Dr. Y's office, hoping to use the timing of their operations to suggest that Kain - who had arrived on the scene last - was the thief.

Just then, however, Luska arrived and immediately attacked Guyu, who dropped the Malice Stones that he had stolen. Kain then took the opportunity to plant the key card that he had stolen from Luska's office onto Guyu, thereby clearing any evidence of his involvement in the break-in. After Guyu was taken into custody, Tirag met with his allies and revealed to them that he had seen a choker around Luska's neck, which suggested that she, too, was a prisoner of the Drakas.

The Insurrection

Soon after, Kain met with Kudan and attempted to exchange Dr. Y's notes for the Memory Stone. Just then, however, a Drakas sting arrived to ambush Kudan, who immediately assumed that Kain had set him up. In the chaos, the Memory Stone shattered and filled everyone's minds with one of Kain's memories, in which Luska had invited him to a birthday dinner. Through the memory, they leaned that Luska would routinely steal the memories of the Drakas, and that she had planted false memories in their heads to motivate them.

Upon realizing the truth, all of the Drakas grew furious and joined Tirag's uprising against Luska. The uprising quickly made its way to Drakas headquarters, where the remaining Regulators attempted to defend Luska from the insurrectionists. Meanwhile, Kain also learned that he was the original template for the Malice Stones. Hoping to learn the truth, he began chasing after Luska as well.

As the uprising continued, the insurrectionists seized control of the operations room and placed bounties on both Luska and Kain. Tirag then began leading Illin and Vias to Luska's suite, though Illin refused to follow Tirag any further, believing that he only cared about being at the top. After she left, Tirag told Vias to become the new Drakas leader, as he himself was satisfied with only being the muscle.

Soon after, Tirag and his allies faced off against Luska, who managed to defeat them all, though she was heavily injured in the process. Kain then arrived on the roof and fought Luska, who was able to easily defeat him, despite her injuries. However, Luska soon collapsed as Kain regained the rest of his memories through the Memory Stones, allowing him to realize that Luska was his sister. With her dying breath, Luska told Kain to live his life freely, with both their chokers falling off as Luska closed her eyes.

From the Shadows

Following the insurrection, the Drakas organization nearly went extinct, with the community council taking back control of Toolen City. Soon after, Kain traveled to Savage Terminal, where Gen - the leader of Savage Terminal's Shadowdealers branch - greeted him as the 'master Drakas', explaining that he was referring to the fact that Kain was the last Drakas member left. Kain then decided to travel to Maple World in order to become stronger and contextualize his newfound memories.

Meanwhile, Dr. Y returned back to the Drakas headquarters, where he and a Regulator found Luska, who was still barely alive. The Regulator asked Dr. Y whether he would be able to extract death, to which Dr. Y explained that while he could extract memories or Malice or anything else, extracting death itself would be too much for him. Instead, Dr. Y turned to Luska and extracted the damage which would have led to her death, allowing him to resurrect her.

Soon after, Illin contacted Kain and asked him to meet her atop the rooftop of the Drakas headquarters. There, she explained that her choker was still stuck onto her neck, preventing her from returning back to her hometown, despite having regained her memories of it, as she was afraid that the Drakas remnants would track her down.

She then revealed to Kain that he had given her a note containing the coordinates of his own hometown before he had lost his memories for the first time. In exchange for the coordinates, Kain gave Illin an introduction to the Shadowdealers, whom she hoped could help her remove her choker in exchange for a plethora of valuable information that she possessed. Illin then began working with Gen to remove the choker. As Illin continued working for the Shadowdealers, she soon came to learn that the Drakas were still active, and that the were tracking her location, which made it difficult for her to rendezvous with Gen.

Reunion with Kain

Soon after, Dr. Y contacted Gen anonymously and informed him that he could remove Illin's choker. Though Gen believed it to a trap, Illin rushed to the rooftop of the Drakas headquarters in order to meet the source. Gen dispatched Kain to go after Illin, where Kain found Illin dead on the roof. To his shock, he also found Luska, whom he believed to have died, and learned that her memories had been taken by Dr. Y, who used her reunion with Kain as a condition check.

Aftermath

Shortly after the death of the Black Mage, at the Drakas headquarters, Dr. Y asked Luska how she was feeling. Luska replied that there were no issues, to which Dr. Y added that he was sure that she had heard the news about Kain's role in defeating the Black Mage. Luska explained that Kain was no threat to her, as her Malice was stronger than anything. Satisfied by her answer, Dr. Y told her that it was time to move on with the next phase of their plan.

Organization

Location

The Drakas are a company that specializes in assassination. Based in Toolen City, the Drakas have a working relationship with the city government, which depends on the Drakas to enforce order. Despite the violent nature of the organization, many citizens in Toolen City respect the Drakas for keeping the peace.

Before their collapse, the Drakas held power on the east side of the city, while those who sought to flee from them chose to hide on the east side, where the thick fog around the area, which made breathing difficult, would hide them from anyone who came looking for them. As the Drakas did not have a presence on the east side, Kudan used it as an opportunity to rebuild the Biters and uncover the secrets behind Malice.

Hierarchy

The Drakas are led by a single boss, with Regulators that serve as officers to direct and lead their hitmen. The Drakas' primary operations are to perform assassinations. Using the money from successful missions, the Drakas will recruit new members by buying out non-performing loans from money lenders, thereby taking the assets of any who default on their debts. In this way, defaulters are forcibly conscripted into joining the Drakas, which erase the memories of their members and hold them as collateral until those debts have been cleared.

Unbeknownst to most members, however, the Drakas had no intention of releasing their assets, for which they would frequently continue taking memories from their agents and placing fabricated memories to motivate them to work harder in order to get them back. Upon this information being leaked, nearly the entirety of the Drakas organization rose up against the Drakas leadership, resulting in its collapse and near-extinction.

Drakas agents are each equipped with a choker that tracks their position at all times, ensuring that no agent can desert the company. The chokers are impossible to remove by any member, with the only known instances of the chokers being removed - from Kain and Luska - likely being a result of Dr. Y removing them in order to further study the siblings and see their Malice grow upon regaining their freedom.

The Drakas boss is the highest authority in the organization, tasked with overseeing the growth of the company and ensuring the compliance of all members. Although Luska served publicly as the Drakas leader, Dr. Y remained the true power behind the organization, having enslaved Luska as a puppet ruler in his place.

In order to help her maintain stability, Luska employed Regulators to manage units and issue commands on the field. Regulators would oversee members on their missions, track their positions with their chokers, and ensure the success of their operations. Regulators carefully managed the distribution of Malice Stones, the primary source of strength for the Drakas, in order to prevent them from falling into outside hands. Regulators would also assign point values to missions, which members would undertake with the intention of making their quota in order to escape their indentured servitude.
