Story

FriendStory: Prologue

After Elwin, Lily's older brother, inadvertently opened a dimensional rift between Maple World and Friends World, the dark energies of Maple World began corrupting the other world. From the rift, a student from Friends World stumbled into Maple World and a traveler from Maple World began masquerading as them while the student explored the unfamiliar world.

As the traveler began discovering strange monsters on Friends World, Grendel the Really Old intervened and explained that the traveler would need to stop the corruption of Friends World by defeating the monsters. He then introduced Lily and told the traveler that she and Elwin would help them.

FriendStory: Cygnus and the New Kid

While the traveler was cleaning up Shinsoo International School, Lily appeared before them in cat form on the school roof, where she explained that monsters known as Motes were causing the dirt around the school. The traveler entered a portal and defeated the Motes inside, after which they brought back Bizarre Dust Balls to Lily, who explained that a gathering of Motes usually preceded the appearance of larger Troublemaker monsters.

Lily began studying the Bizarre Dust Balls and met the traveler at Sunset Lot, who asked her whether they had seen Cygnus. She told them that she had seen Cygnus pass by a moment ago, and that she had also finished studying the Bizarre Dust Balls and had learned that Motes were created by dark emotions such as hate, jealousy, and envy.

She revealed that the Motes grew larger as those dark emotions were at their peak, which transformed them into Troublemakers. She also suspected that someone’s dark feelings towards Cygnus were creating the Motes and asked them to eliminate the monsters before they spread further. After the traveler helped clear out the Motes and save Cygnus, Lily congratulated them in the Closet House and told them to stay close to Cygnus, as there seemed to be a connection between relationships in Maple World and Friends World.

FriendStory: Orchid and the Stalker

While chasing after Orchid, the traveler encountered Lily in cat form at the Drizzling Strolling Path. Lily warned them that Orchid's dark emotions were calling in Motes and asked them to defeat the monsters before a Troublemaker appeared. After the traveler quelled Orchid's feelings, Lily met them the next day and explained that their actions had kept any Troublemakers from manifesting.

FriendStory: Cassandra's Tales of Totally Shocking Stuff

At the Old Shinsoo International School building, the traveler encountered Lily and Elwin in their animal forms, who told them that more Motes had gathered around the old building. After the traveler defeated them, they returned the next day in order to investigate stories about Ericsson the security guard, who was allegedly conducting a demon ritual.

Elwin called the student after hearing baby cries in the building, though he ran away in fear by the time that they arrived. Lily and the traveler then went in alone and fought through the Motes before reaching the roof, where they learned that Cassandra had been faking evidence in order to substantiate her stories.

Soon after, Cassandra's Fan appeared and revealed that she had been attacking students who hadn't believed Cassandra in order to defend her honor. As the group confronted her, Cassandra's Fan's feelings spawned a Troublemaker that the traveler defeated. Lily then used her manipulation magic to erase memories of the Troublemaker from Cassandra's Fan.

FriendStory: Students in Crisis

When the White Mage began working as a student teacher, many students began falling in love with him and chaos began overtaking the school. After the traveler discovered Ephenia, the president of the Pale Student Teacher Lovers, bullying one of her members, they met with Lily on the school roof, who told them that Ephenia frequently bullied the members of her club, and that she was worried that everything that was happening was leading to something major, like a final battle.

After the White Mage's time as a student teacher came to an end, the original student whom the traveler was covering for decided that they wanted to return back to Friends World. In order to complete the switch, Lily explained that she needed to remove the traveler from the memories of all the students. When they asked about the Troublemakers, Lily told them that the Magician Association would take over protecting the other world, as they had safer ways of keeping watch over the border between worlds.

Lily allowed the traveler to call one person to say goodbye to before she erased everyone’s memories. After the call, Lily went to the school entrance and cast the spell to wipe everyone’s memories. She then headed back to Maple World with Elwin and told the traveler to come back once they were ready.

Before the traveler could return, they were contacted by the White Mage, who asked them to meet him. Though the traveler recognized that he seemed familiar, they were inexplicably unable to recall who he was. After the White Mage revealed that he was the one who had unlocked the barrier between their worlds for Elwin to open, the traveler returned back to the Closet House and told everything to Grendel and his apprentices.

Grendel realized that there were shared elements between Maple World and the other world, and that the people of Friends World would soon face a similar evil to the one on Maple World. Lily asked whether they had the right to interfere in the problems of another world, to which Grendel replied that it was their responsibility to do so when the dark energies on Friends World had been invited in from Maple World. At Grendel's request, Lily restored the memories of the traveler in everyone's minds so that the traveler could continue to protect them as a student.

FriendStory: Damien and the Spirit of Rock

During the battle of the bands, the traveler encountered Lily at the Drizzling Strolling Path while chasing after Boogie. Lily told them that several students had been possessed by Motes, after which the traveler freed them. At the concert, Lily and Elwin used their magic to blind the audience when Damien's emotions inadvertently summoned a Troublemaker, allowing the traveler to defeat it.

Convergence: Fusion of Worlds

After the battle of Tenebris, Lily and Elwin grew increasingly worried as Grendel grew obsessed over Gloom's core fragment, which had allowed him to sympathize with the Black Mage after seeing the countless futures that led to despair. Grendel visited Will, who was being held captive in Ereve, and confronted him about the Black Mage's plans. Will gave Grendel a second core fragment, which allowed him to view the Black Mage's thoughts.

Soon after Grendel disappeared, Neinheart summoned Lily and Elwin, who accompanied the Adversary in order to follow Grendel. They first followed Grendel to Lachelein, where they learned through watching Grendel that the Black Mage had intended to lose from the beginning. Soon after, they ran into Protective Mask, who revealed that Lucid had created him to save her from her nightmare. He then entered Lucid's nightmare and rescued her, revealing himself as a projection of Mercedes.

The group then continued on to Morass, where they saw Grendel speaking to an echo of the White Mage. The Adversary was surprised to see the White Mage, as Tana’s memories of Trueffet were set after the White Mage had already fallen. Lily pointed out that Transcendents weren’t bound by time and space like they were, meaning that the Black Mage’s return to his original form before he died could have influenced moments in the past.

After Grendel left, the White Mage appeared before them and revealed that the Transcendents had been created as slaves to maintain order, as well as to jail the Ancient Gods. As the group continued following Grendel, Lily began explaining the principles of the universe to the Adversary, who was confused about the role of the Transcendents in maintaining order. She gave them a situation in which two identical marbles were put in a box, which was then shaken. Based on the dimensions of the box, the shape and weight of the marbles, and the force and direction of the shake, she explained that it was possible to predict the path that the marbles would follow.

However, she then changed the situation to add more marbles with different sizes and weights, which would make it much harder to predict the trajectory of the original two marbles. In that regard, Lily equated the Transcendents as having removed the countless variables introduced by the Ancient Gods from the equation in order to make the future predictable and manipulable, and explained that the mere existence of the Transcendents was what maintained order.

The group then continued through the Morass, which had taken the form of the Black Mage's memories of watching the Adversary in Esfera from afar. As they continued through, they encountered an echo of Melange picking up Will's book of prophecy. Though they attempted to stop him, to their surprise, the echo of Melange grew self-aware and used his power to freeze the group before forcing them to continue on their way. Lily expressed her shock that Melange knew that he was in the Morass, and the fact that he had used magic that she had never seen before.

Eventually, the group encountered Grendel at the barrier between Maple World and Grandis. Grendel then revealed that the absence of the Transcendents meant that the two worlds were nearly one. He then shattered the paper-thin dimensional barrier between worlds, allowing Maple World and Grandis to fuse into one, just as they had originally been.
