Versal is a distant world that was home to the Antellion, an infinite energy source that transcends space and time, as well as the Grandmasters who defended it.

Story (Post-Remaster)

The lore regarding Versal was remastered in the Masteria Through Time Update.

Long ago, a powerful object known as the Antellion was created through the sacrifice of Versal's greatest heroes. Through the power of the Antellion, the Versalian Grandmasters traveled across space and time, aiding as many people as they could. The power of the Antellion was shared equally amongst the Versalians, with their strongest warrior being chosen as its guardian. However, the equal distribution of power resulted in its dilution, and as a result, many coveted the Antellion and sought to claim it for themselves. Christopher Crimsonheart was the last guardian of the Antellion, renowned for his strength and wisdom. Crimsonheart and his wife, Glona, had adopted many Versalian children who had nowhere else to go, including Subani and Naricain. One day, while Crimsonheart was away, thieves attempted to steal the Antellion and Glona gave her life to protect it. Furious at Crimsonheart for not having been there to protect her, Naricain ran away from home and sought to claim the Antellion for himself, hoping to use its power to force obedience from all Versalians in order to prevent the chaotic tragedies which had claimed his mother's life. After Naricain managed to steal a fragment of the Antellion, Crimsonheart took Subani, the Grandmasters, and the best Versalian warriors to Maple World, where they built Crimsonwood Keep on the continent of Krakia in order to safeguard the Antellion. Eventually, Naricain discovered the location of the Antellion and traveled to Maple World. Before he could carry out his plan to face Crimsonheart, Naricain encountered Dr. Jang, who had been manipulated by the Antellion of the present into believing that Naricain would be sealed away by Subani after killing Crimsonheart.

Simultaneously, Grandmaster Lukan and a traveler, who had also been tricked by the Antellion into believing the same, traveled back in time, hoping to warn Crimsonheart. Dr. Jang worked together with Naricain and created a substance called Naricain's Blood, which corrupted the native Krakians and many of the Keep soldiers. A great war then took place between Crimsonheart and the Grandmasters against Naricain and his forces. With the traveler's help, Naricain was sealed away and Dr. Jang was killed. In the aftermath of the battle, Crimsonheart decided that he would sacrifice his life to destroy the Antellion. Before he did so, he ordered Grandmaster Numenal to return to Versal in order to lead the Versalians and raise his foster children. Numenal returned back to Versal, but without the Antellion's sustaining light, Versal quickly headed towards collapse, resulting in endless nights and barren lands. Despite Numenal's best efforts in rallying the citizens in creating a substitute for the Antellion, Versal soon fell into chaos at the hands of a band of anarchists that called themselves the followers of Naricain. As war took hold of their planet, most Versalians decided to leave their ruined husk of a world, instead becoming an itinerant race that drifted through dimensions like nomads, their home lost, perhaps for all time. Meanwhile, Versal fell into the hands of the followers of Naricain, who then plotted to travel to Masteria, where they hoped to revive Naricain.

Story (Pre-Remaster)

Versal is a mirror dimension to Maple World, complete with backwards writing and mechanics. For instance, one citizen of Versal was known as Elpam Gorlab, whose name is "Maple Balrog" spelled backwards. Furthermore, he claims that Balrogs are gentle, noble creatures, while Crushmom, Versal's version of Mushmom, is the most dangerous monster on Versal. Elpam wears a special cologne that smells like old cheese, which he claims is a popular brand on Versal, contrary to what most people on Maple World would consider. Long ago, the Versalians used to grow their crops by worshipping the sun. As the monsters attempted to eat their crops, the Versalians made a deal with Crushmom, offering a portion of their crops in exchange for protection from the other monsters. Because of this, they were able to have a huge surplus of crops, and as a result, they stopped worshipping the sun, causing it to grow weaker. Eventually, Crushmom grew unsatisfied with receiving its usual share of crops when the Versalians had so much more, and so it threatened to devour them if they didn’t increase their tribute. It continued asking for more and more, and its hunger eventually grew to the point that nothing would satisfy it, and so it devoured the sun itself, causing the skies to grow dark. As the Versalians’ crops withered and the monsters, once held at bay by Crushmom, began to attack, a group of brave hunters fought Crushmom and forced it to regurgitate what was left of the sun. However, because of its time being digested, the sun shone much weaker than it used to. The villagers then resumed their worship of the sun, causing it to shine for 99 days in a year, which eventually dwindled down to 30. These days of light would become celebrated as Versalmas.

In Masterian folklore, it was said that there was once a powerful demon known as Naricain, who was sealed away by a powerful magician of light named Subani. It was also said that Subani and Naricain would one day battle again. In reality, Naricain and his followers managed to seize control of Versal, with only a band of resistance fighters opposing him. With the help of a man known as the Alchemist, Naricain attempted to conquer Crimsonwood Keep on the continent of Masteria in Maple World, where Christopher Crimsonheart and his Grandmasters safeguarded a powerful relic known as the Antellion. The Alchemist corrupted the native Krakians living in Masteria, resulting in a ten-year war that the Grandmasters ultimately lost. Naricain then used his power to transport Masteria to Versal. Over the next millennium, Naricain and the Alchemist studied Masteria in order to learn as much as they could for their plans. However, before they could finish their research, Subani struck a deal with a man named Icebyrd Slimm, and as a result, he teleported Masteria back to Maple World. Furious, the Alchemist returned to Maple World, where he worked under the guise of Dr. Krakia, in order to return Masteria back to Versal. Meanwhile, powerful Versalian warriors known as the Twisted Masters plotted to build an invasion army by training their soldiers in the ways of the ancient Keep guilds in order to invade New Leaf City and gain access to Crimsonheart's gravestone, where a great secret remained hidden. Thanks to the efforts of a traveler, however, the Twisted Masters were defeated and their plans were uncovered. The traveler eventually managed to defeat the Alchemist and freed the ancient Grandmaster Rafael, who sent the traveler to Versal. There, they encountered the Versalian resistance against Naricain before being sent back by Subani. The traveler also learned that Naricain sought to transport Masteria back to Versal in order to use it as a staging ground for a larger invasion army, which would then be teleported back to Maple World in order to conquer the entire realm. Hoping to stop Naricain, the traveler worked with Rafael to reach Crimsonheart's grave, which was actually a portal that led to his last known location, in order to convince him to lead an all-out assault on Versal.
