Naricain, also known as the Archdemon, is a powerful Versalian sorcerer who was sealed away by his father, Christopher Crimsonheart, after attempting to claim the Antellion.

Story (Post-Remaster)

Naricain's storyline was remastered in the Masteria Through Time Update.

Life on Versal

Naricain was an orphan on Versal who was the second to be adopted by Crimsonheart, the guardian of the Antellion, and his wife, Glona. Naricain grew extremely close to his older brother, Subani, and the two boys would later discover that they were also able to speak with each other through their dreams. Whereas Subani was timid and shy, Naricain was outspoken and talented. Like his other siblings, Naricain was trained by Crimsonheart as his potential successor as the guardian of the Antellion. Crimsonheart was often away on missions to other worlds, and as a result, he was unable to always be there for his family. On many such occasions, thieves would often attempt to steal the Antellion, though the actions of Glona or the Grandmasters, or sometimes even the timely return of Crimsonheart, would prevent disaster. These incidents motivated Naricain to work harder than anyone else, as he sought to protect his mother from harm. However, on one such occasion, thieves had overpowered Grandmaster Lukan, who ordered Glona and a terrified Subani to run. However, Glona refused to allow the Antellion to fall into the wrong hands, and so she expended her life force to cast a powerful barrier spell that prevented the thieves from entering. Naricain then arrived and found that his mother had passed away. Furious, he unleased powerful dark magic to kill the thieves before turning on Subani, berating him for having sat cowering while their mother gave her life. After Crimsonheart returned, Naricain blamed him for the death of his mother and ran away from home. Over time, Naricain grew in power and ambition, hoping to seize the Antellion in order to forcibly dominate Versal and create peace. At one point, Naricain succeeded in stealing a fragment of the Antellion, which had never been done in the history of Versal. Realizing that his son would stop at nothing to claim the Antellion, Crimsonheart took Subani, the four Grandmasters, and the best warriors of Versal and led them to Maple World, where they established Crimsonwood Keep on the continent of Krakia in order to protect the Antellion.

The Time Portal

In order to discover where Crimsonheart had gone, Naricain returned home and confronted his siblings, Millard and Henne. After he threatened to kill Henne, Millard reluctantly revealed that Crimsonheart had taken the Antellion to Maple World. Naricain then used his fragment of the Antellion to travel to Krakia, where he planned to confront his father. Before he could proceed with his plan, however, Dr. Jang appeared and claimed that she had traveled back in time at the behest of his future self in order to warn him that Subani and the Grandmasters would seal him away and destroy the Antellion after he would kill his father. Enamored by her beauty and intelligence, Naricain agreed to work with her in order to find a better way to claim the Antellion. Dr. Jang then created a substance known as Naricain's Blood, which she used to corrupt the native Krakians and many Keep soldiers in order to create an army to invade the Keep. Soon after, Naricain was contacted by Subani through their dreams. Subani asked to meet with him in order to negotiate. Upon reuniting with his estranged brother, Subani entreated him to turn back, promising that he would be forgiven if he truly repented. Though Naricain truly wanted to reconcile with Subani, he unleashed dark magic upon his brother and killed him, as he had been told by Dr. Jang that Subani would seal him away. Naricain then entered the Keep and claimed the Antellion amidst the battle. However, Crimsonheart soon arrived and began fighting his son, taking the Antellion back. A traveler who had also come back in time fought and killed Dr. Jang with the help of Lukan, after which they joined Crimsonheart in battle. Upon learning that the woman he loved had been killed, Naricain's fury exploded as he prepared to kill them all. However, the traveler managed to create a diversion that allowed Crimsonheart to seal him away into a dimension beyond space and time.

Followers of Naricain

Following Naricain's defeat, Crimsonheart sent Grandmaster Numenal back to Versal in order to lead its people. He then sacrificed his life to destroy the Antellion, as he believed that it was too dangerous to allow it to remain when many others besides Naricain coveted it. However, the destruction of the Antellion resulted in great instability on Versal. Amidst the chaos, a band of anarchists who called themselves the followers of Naricain hoped to revive their master, believing that his ideals of maintaining absolute control would restore their broken world. A millennium later, the continent of Krakia, which had been sunk to the bottom of the ocean after the Antellion's destruction, resurfaced and was rediscovered by a man named Icebyrd Slimm, who renamed it Masteria and build New Leaf City atop it. In the Phantom Forest of Masteria, a powerful monster known only as the Phantom of Naricain haunted the woods, theorized to have been created by the fusion of many lesser spirits. The followers of Naricain eventually traveled to New Leaf City, where they seized control of Crimsonwood Keep in order to access the Dimensional Gate and revive Naricain, They were also able to take the last fragment of the Antellion from Lukan, who had been tasked by Crimsonheart to safeguard it. They then managed to open the gateway to another dimension and summoned the Phantom of Naricain, though it is unknown whether they truly managed to revive Naricain or whether they simply summoned the monster that roamed the Phantom Forest. Regardless, their plans were interrupted by the arrival of the knights of Afinas, who successfully rescued Lukan and his allies, though they were unable to recover the Antellion fragment.

Story (Pre-Remaster)

In the original Masteria storyline, Naricain was a powerful demon of darkness who, according to legend, was sealed away by a powerful magician of light known as Subani. It was said that Naricain was responsible for creating the Dark Scrolls, just as Subani had created the White Scrolls. According to a prophecy found in the Yeti Sphinx Chamber of New Leaf City, it was said that the act which had created the Dark Scrolls was not the final battle between Subani and Naricain. Despite the legend of him being sealed away, Naricain and his followers managed to seize control of Versal. Naricain also teleported the continent of Masteria to Versal a thousand years ago, hoping to uncover the location of the Antellion. Before they could succeed, however, Subani struck a deal with Icebyrd Slimm and teleported Masteria back to Maple World, along with the Twisted Masters who had been occupying Crimsonwood Keep. The Twisted Masters began training their Versalians soldiers in the ways of the old Keep guilds in order to invade New Leaf City and access Crimsonheart's gravestone, which contained the key to accessing the Antellion. The Twisted Masters were eventually defeated by a traveler, who also defeated the Alchemist, a mysterious man who had allied himself with Naricain and manipulated many of the events of Masteria, such as the war against the Keep. The traveler briefly managed to visit Versal, where they were shocked to find that Naricain had a complete hold over it. After returning to Maple World, they began the quest of finding Crimsonheart in order to have him lead an assault to liberate Versal from Naricain.
