Trivia
- New Leaf City's town contains parodies of various real-life landmarks.
- The city itself is named after New York City, with the term "New Leaf" referring to both the Maple Leaf and the expression "turning over a new leaf", which means starting over with a different attitude or perspective on life while putting one's past behind them.
- The Bigger Ben clocktower where the MesoGears is located: a parody of Big Ben (London, England)
- The Yetinx, a sphinx modeled after a Yeti: a parody of the Great Sphinx of Giza (Giza, Egypt)
- A parody of Mount Rushmore (Keystone, South Dakota, United States) in the background featuring Grendel the Really Old, Athena Pierce, Dances with Balrog, and the Dark Lord
- A parody of the Hollywood Sign (Hollywood, Los Angeles, California) in the background with the letters MAPLESTORY
- A parody of the Statue of Liberty (New York City, New York, United States) in the background modeled after a Mushmom
- A parody of the Moai Statues (Easter Island, Chile) in the foreground with Slimes on their heads
- The Affluent Tower: a parody of the Eiffel Tower (Paris, France)
- Prior to the MapleStory: Glory Update, this area was also accessed via a subway station that was a parody of New York City Subway stations (New York City, New York, United States)
- Prior to the MapleStory: Glory Update in December 2019, this area had a different storyline, map assets, and monsters. It was introduced in July 2007 as part of the v.40 Update.
- In March 2012, NLC became the focus of a new expansion where it was invaded by aliens, which destroyed the city and the surrounding Krakian Jungle and simplified a lot of the maps, with the MesoGears becoming inaccessible. However, this update was reverted in February 2014 due to it being unpopular, restoring NLC to its former state, reopening the MesoGears, and keeping the Alien Base as an expansion[2].
- In March 2016, the area became the focus of the Masteria Through Time Blockbuster, which retconned a lot of the lore of Masteria.
