However, such weapons do not accept a new wielder easily. Only those who pass the spirit's trials can earn the right to join such weapons in battle.
Maha, of course, is no exception. At present, it accepts no wielder other than Aran, and even Aran would tell you that the weapon can be stubborn at times.”
- ― Chronicler Ael
Maha is both the spirit of of Aran's polearm and the name of her weapon itself.
Story
Maker and Master
Maha was created centuries ago by Sir Blacksmith, the greatest blacksmith in Maple World. Despite Maha's exquisite craftsmanship, Sir Blacksmith found that Maha was so sharp that it could even damage its user. He kept Maha in storage for many years in his shop in Mu Lung until Aran arrived, hoping to claim the finest polearm in existence. After Aran proved herself, Sir Blacksmith bestowed Maha to Aran. At some point, Aran obtained a Red Jade from a Yeti named Tititi, which further amplified Maha's power. After Aran joined the Heroes to stop the Black Mage, she used Maha throughout the war. At one point, Aran placed a whetstone that she used to sharpen Maha in a time capsule that the Heroes buried at the Lion King's Castle.
Saving Aran
At the final battle in the Temple of Time, the Black Mage cursed the Heroes to be frozen in ice as he was sealed away. In Leafre, Aran fell unconscious as the curse slowly began taking over. Around this time, a member of the Silent Crusade traveled back in time in order to stop Arkarium and encountered Maha and an unconscious Aran. Maha asked the Crusader to help recover his broken pieces so that he could teleport Aran to Rien, where he hoped that its cold climate would help slow down the curse. With the Crusader's help, Maha teleported his master to Rien, where she became fully frozen.
Return of the Hero
Over the centuries, Maha remained awake while Aran remained frozen in slumber. As the absence from his master grew too much for him, seeds of darkness were planted in his heart. Centuries later, Aran awoke from the curse, weakened and without her memories. Maha attempted to get Aran's attention, but his master was unable to see his presence in her weakened state. As Aran grew stronger, she was soon able to see Maha's presence, though she could not recognize him. After regaining her memory of obtaining him from the Mirror Cave, a pleased Maha bestowed some of her old power onto her. Soon after, a Thief Crow stole the Red Jade on Maha, who attempted to get Aran's attention again. Though Aran was unable to recover the gem from the Thief Crow, she was able to obtain one from the Red Jade from her memory in the Mirror Cave, after which Maha bestowed more of her old power. Soon after, Maha felt the seeds of darkness inside him growing stronger, causing him to grow berserk. After Aran was able to defeat him, Maha regained his senses and thanked her for her help. He explained that since she had proven herself to be strong enough to contain him, it was an indication that he could safely restore her full power. He then bestowed all her old skills and explained that she would return to full power once she fully mastered them. After Aran mastered her full powers, Maha gave her his blessing. He also awakened Ryko, her Silver Wolf companion, claiming that hers was the strongest wolf in history, even stronger than the one she had ridden centuries ago.
Heroes of Maple
During the events of Heroes of Maple, Damien branded Maha with his mark of corruption when he crossed blades with Aran, which weakened his power. Though Aran was able to repair him, the mark persisted and allowed Damien to track the Heroes to Earth, where he stole the Transcendence Stone.

Trivia
- Maha is the first spirit-possessed weapon in the story, followed by Zero's weapons - Lapis and Lazuli, and Damien's Sword of Destruction, which holds the spirits of all the half-blood demons sacrificed to the blade.
- Prior to the Aran Remaster in the Milestone / Chaser / The Dark Ride Update, two of Aran's 5th job skills - Maha's Fury and Maha's Carnage - would allow Aran to wield the full power of Maha. Maha's Fury transformed the player's weapon into Maha, signifying that she has returned to full power, such that she can wield him in combat again.
- As of the Aran Remaster, only Maha's Carnage still exists in-game.
