Edelstein's teddy bear--or rather, a part-time worker in a teddy bear costume. Despite taking on the responsibility of giving hopes and dreams to children, the person inside the suit seems rational and realistic.
When I observed him, I had this odd sense of familiarity, as though he may have worked part-time at Fantasy Theme World as well. Apparently, he's constantly pestered by people who want to see the face behind the bear head. When it comes to that sort of thing, bribing him with food works best, or so I've heard.
I can't help but wonder if I ought to see if it works. Be advised, though; good adventurer probably ought not follow my example.
― Chronicler Harper
The Mechanic instructor of the Resistance, a secret organization formed to liberate Edelstein. His job as a teddy bear mascot was merely an identity assumed as cover, though he continues to wear the bear costume.
According to passing Resistance members, he still uses it as a disguise during missions. While the costume may be cute on the outside, the man inside it is said to be a cold, city-raised mechanic.
Though his demeanor is typically rational, he displays a curious tendency toward self-praise. Perhaps it's a cultivated part of his mysterious persona. Unlike the other four instructors, who appear to share close personal ties, he seems slightly out of place.
― Chronicler Harper

Checky is the Mechanic instructor for the Resistance and the town mascot of Edelstein.

Story

Forming the Resistance

Checky was the town mascot of Edelstein who had close ties with the local children. Though many of the children were obsessed with knowing who Checky was behind his mask, Checky consistently maintained his story that his mask was filled with nothing but hopes and dreams, even going so far as to wear a second mask underneath his first. After the Black Wings invaded Edelstein and seized control of the city and its resources, the headmaster of the local school - Ferdi - founded the Resistance, with Checky and four others - Claudine, Elex, Brighton, and Belle - becoming key figures in the movement. Checky became the Mechanic instructor, training recruits to construct and wield powerful mechanical suits in battle.

The Black Witch

Over time, the Resistance grew in numbers and soon decided that it was time to take back their city. They reached out to the Cygnus Knights, proposing a joint operation to remove the Black Wings from power. However, due to the interference of a Black Wings officer named Eleanor the Black Witch, the Cygnus Knights were forced to remain in Ereve in order to handle the threat. As a result, the Resistance went into battle expecting reinforcements that never arrived. The failed attack resulted in heavy casualties, and the Resistance was forced underground once again. Believing that the Cygnus Knights had betrayed them by going back on their word, the Resistance vowed that they would take back their city alone, and this event sparked heavy animosity between the two. In order to further sow discord amongst them, the Black Wings intercepted the Cygnus Knights' attempts at communication, leading the Resistance to believe that the Cygnus Knights had completely cut themselves off from Edelstein.

A Knight from Ereve

In order to investigate the Black Wings, a Cygnus Knight was dispatched alongside 10 Boogies, where they faced heavy antagonism from the citizens of Edelstein. While helping 10 Boogies recover her belongings which the children of Edelstein had stolen, the Knight spoke with Checky, Brighton, Elex, and Belle, all of whom immediately recognized them as a Cygnus Knight and rebuffed them. After the Knight saved several local children from the Black Wings, however, Checky rushed to the scene and told the Knight that though he was grateful, it still wouldn't change their image in the eyes of the townspeople. Nevertheless, he gave the Knight a note and told them to read it somewhere in private. The Knight opened the note and read instructions for them to wait for a call at an abandoned phone booth in Edelstein Park, where they spoke with Claudine.

Soon after, Claudine led the Resistance leaders to save the Knight, who had been lured into a trap by Baroq and Francis. After reaching safety, the Knight told the Resistance what they had overheard from the Black Wings. Elex was pleased with the information, as it not only confirmed that Gelimer's experiments were related to resurrection, but that there was a schism within the Black Wings as well. However, Checky and the others were less pleased by how the Knight had obtained that information, admonishing them for their reckless behavior, as the Black Wings would retaliate by cracking down on the citizens of Edelstein. Though Claudine agreed with the others, she also noted that the Knight had obtained valuable information. As the other Resistance leaders headed back to base, Claudine stayed behind to let the Knight know that she had merely owed them personally a favor, not the Cygnus Knights, and that they were now even. Before she left, she also told them that she had learned that the Black Wings were the ones who had been blocking communication between the Resistance and the Cygnus Knights. However, she added that she had only investigated in order to correct the facts, and that the Resistance had no intention of reconciliating with the Cygnus Knights. She then told them to report back to Ereve that the Cygnus Knights would never earn their trust.

Ancient Research

After learning that the Black Wings were after a research journal that detailed the powers of the Ancient Gods, Claudine led Checky and the other Resistance leaders to recover the book at Helios Library. On their way back to Edelstein, however, the Cygnus Knight who had met with them previously chased after them, as they had been tasked with recovering it by Neinheart. At Ludibrium Station, the Knight asked them to hand the book over, but Claudine refused to give it up, claiming that the Cygnus Knights would only hide the book away, rather than use it against the Black Wings. However, the Knight refused to give up, explaining that it was their mission to bring the book back to Ereve. As tensions grew higher, Black Wings henchmen suddenly arrived to seize the book. The group switched focus to fighting the Black Wings henchmen. During the battle, Claudine was injured, and just as more enemies closed in, the Knight's Chief Knight and a legion of Cygnus Knights arrived to reinforce them. As the Resistance and the Cygnus Knights began squabbling over the book, Claudine unexpectedly ordered the others to retreat and gave the book to the Knight, claiming that it would be safer in Ereve than in Edelstein, which the Black Wings had made their base. She added that she now knew that the Knight was powerful and admitted that the Resistance wouldn't have been able to protect the book without their help. She told the Knight that, as the Resistance still didn't trust them, they would be keeping watch from afar.

The New Agent

A young citizen from Edelstein, after accidentally stumbling across Gelimer's laboratory in the Verne Mine, was saved alongside one of Gelimer's test subjects, Vita, by a Resistance agent named J. Following the incident, Claudine and the other leaders were informed about the citizen's actions, for which they decided to monitor them from afar. At the behest of Headmaster Ferdi, the citizen decided to help the residents of Edelstein and soon met with Checky, , who asked them to put up a flyer at the town billboard, as it would be too suspicious for him to do so himself. Checky then asked them what would happen if people couldn't exchange information, to which the citizen replied that they would live as puppets without ever realizing it. After helping the townspeople, the citizen returned to Ferdi, who gave them a special invitation. Upon opening it, the citizen was transported to the Secret Plaza of the Resistance. There, they were surprised to see the familiar faces of Checky and all the other townspeople whom they had helped. Claudine explained that while they pretended to be ordinary and meek in public, all of them fought secretly in the Resistance. After speaking with each of the different leaders and learning about their specializations, the citizen chose their path and became an official member of the Resistance.

As the Resistance member grew stronger, Ferdi summoned them to the Secret Plaza, where Checky assigned them a special mission to steal a report from a Black Wings agent, which contained information gathered from the outside world. The Resistance member went to the Edelstein Airport, where they were surprised to find Schiller. After defeating him, they brought the report to Checky, who was impressed by their skills. Checky explained that he felt that it was important that the Resistance member face Schiller again, not only to get revenge, but also to see how much they had improved. Having proven their talent, Checky decided to teach them more advanced skills.

Some time later, Ferdi contacted the Resistance member and explained that Checky had a special mission for them. Back at the Secret Plaza, Checky explained that the mission would require them to leave town and head to the Power Plant inside the Verne Mine. He explained that both the Power Plant and the Verne Mine rightfully belonged to the citizens of Edelstein, but the Black Wings had taken them both over and built an Energy Conducting Device to divert power away from the city for their own purposes. For their mission, the Resistance member was to infiltrate the Verne Mine alone and destroy the Energy Conducting Device without affecting the Power Plant. Checky explained that the Power Plant was essential for the livelihood of the citizens, and that its destruction would wipe out all of Edelstein. He added that the Black Wings had successfully taken over the town by holding the people hostage with their own Power Plant, threatening to blow up the city if they didn't comply with the Black Wings' orders. Because of this, the Council President had no choice but to give the Black Wings full control of Edelstein. After accepting the mission, the Resistance member used a Black Wings hat to infiltrate the mine and successfully destroy the Energy Conducting Device. Pleased by their accomplishment, Checky rewarded them by teaching them more advanced techniques.

Demon Awakening

In the Verne Mine, the Resistance agent J saved the Demon, whose strength had been drained by the Black Wings as they sapped the energy inside his protective egg for Gelimer's experiments. After the Demon awoke at the Secret Plaza, he overheard J telling the Resistance leaders about his discovery of the Energy Conducting Device, which he described as being similar to the one in the Power Plant, except that it had been connected to the egg. He explained that the Demon was extremely powerful, and that he wouldn't have brought him back to the Secret Plaza if the Demon hadn't already expended the last of his strength. Elex wondered whether the Demon was one of Gelimer's test subjects, which would make him a victim of the Black Wings, just like Vita. J went to check on the Demon in the infirmary and found him awake. He then escorted the Demon to meet with the Resistance leaders, who began questioning him about his organization, his background, and the wings on his back. The Demon explained that he was a former Commander of the Black Mage and that he had been born with his wings, as his father was a pure-blood demon.

Claudine was shocked and asked the Demon how he could be a former Commander when the Black Mage had been sealed for centuries. This, in turn, shocked the Demon, who realized that not only had the Heroes succeeded in defeating his former master, but quite a large amount of time had passed since then. Claudine asked the Demon why he had betrayed the Black Mage, but the Demon merely told her that it was a personal matter. He then asked Claudine who the Resistance and the Black Wings were, to which she explained that the Resistance was an organization formed to drive the Black Wings, a group trying to revive the Black Mage, out of Edelstein. The Demon was pleased to know that the Black Mage may yet return, as it meant that he could finally get his revenge. Just then, Headmaster Ferdi appeared and asked him to join the Resistance, as they both had a common enemy. After considering it, the Demon decided to accept their offer and thanked them for rescuing him.

The Xenoroid

After learning about Gelimer's secret research laboratory outside the Verne Mine, Claudine, Belle, and Brighton infiltrated the facility in order to investigate. Though Gelimer was relieved that Orchid hadn't discovered the facility, he was still irritated that the Resistance had found it. However, he decided to use the situation as an opportunity to conduct a field test for Xenon - the Resistance leaders' childhood friends who had been kidnapped decades ago and turned into a cyborg. Gelimer dropped down a cage to capture the Resistance and sent Xenon to eliminate them. However, Claudine managed to push Brighton and Belle away before the cage dropped down on her. Xenon then arrived to eliminate the Resistance, but the sight of his old friends began triggering his latent memories, causing his head to throb in pain. Just as Gelimer and his other Xenoroid, Beryl, arrived, Brighton and Belle retreated in order to formulate a rescue plan. Gelimer then ordered Xenon to guard Claudine while he and Beryl chased down the others. Perplexed by the strange memories in his head, Xenon decided to visit Claudine in her prison. There, he encountered his friend, Roo-D, a rabbit-fox hybrid Xenoroid, who asked him whether he had remembered anything from his past. In order to jog his memories, she gave him Claudine's dagger, believing that it held the key to his memories. While she kept a watch for Gelimer's return, Xenon asked Claudine about the dagger, explaining that it almost felt familiar to him.

As Claudine wondered whether Xenon could be her old childhood friend, Roo-D returned and warned them that Gelimer was coming back. She told Xenon that the only way for him to regain his memories was to escape with Claudine before Gelimer erased the last vestiges of his memories. She explained that long ago, she had made a promise to keep him safe during a time before Gelimer had taken away his memories. In order to protect him, Roo-D had hidden her true nature from Gelimer by acting like one of his loyal underlings. Choosing to betray Gelimer, Xenon broke Claudine out of her cell and began to escape. Just then, Beryl appeared and turned on Xenon after witnessing his betrayal. Though Xenon managed to defeat her, Gelimer arrived and activated his control circuit in order to freeze him in place. However, Xenon's strong will to recover his memories helped him override the circuit, allowing him to resist his programming and slowly walk away. Just as Gelimer ordered Beryl to destroy Xenon, Checky and the other Resistance leaders arrived and helped them escape.

Back at the Resistance base, the leaders were in disagreement about what to do with Xenon and Roo-D. As Checky and Brighton believed them to be Black Wings agents sent to infiltrate the Resistance, Roo-D offered to remove Xenon's control circuit as a show of good faith, although she warned them that it would weaken him to the point of near-death. Nevertheless, Xenon told Roo-D to proceed, as he didn't want to be a danger to those around him. Roo-D removed the control circuit, which severely weakened Xenon, but left him immune to Gelimer's control. Claudine then welcomed him into the Resistance and suggested that he speak with the other Resistance leaders in order to gain their trust. Xenon met with Checky, who asked him to complete Headmaster Ferdi's basic training program in order to see if it would jog his memories. Although he was still unable to remember anything, Checky nevertheless welcomed him into the Resistance.

Soon after, Xenon - forced to leave Edelstein after Beryl began tracking him - worked with the researchers of Veritas in order to install Pulse Disruptors across Maple World to prevent himself from being tracked. He then reunited with his friends, including Claudine's younger sister, Ulrika, whom he owed a souvenir for delivering a message to Claudine and told him that, as compensation, she wanted Jr. Necki Skins. Xenon went to Kerning City and collected the skins for Ulrika, who planned to use them to force Checky to take his costume off. Soon after, Xenon decided to give his friends gifts to show his appreciation. While thinking of what to get Checky, Xenon spoke with Edwin, who suggested bringing him a teddy bear, as Checky wore a bear costume. He told Xenon to use Dirty Bandages, Ribs, and Horse Skulls from the Excavation Site in order to construct it. Even though he was hesitant about the materials, the bear came out quite nicely. He brought it to Checky, who told him that it would make a much better present for Elex. Checky then swapped the book that Xenon had gotten for Elex in exchange for the teddy bear, making them both much happier with their gifts.

Birth of an Alliance

Some time later, Claudine called the Resistance member to a secret meeting with the other Resistance leaders. She explained that the reason why they were gathered was because the Resistance had been invited to a Continental Conference in Ereve in order to prepare for the Black Mage's return. Brighton asked Claudine what Headmaster Ferdi thought of it, to which she explained that Ferdi had left the decision entirely to the other Resistance leaders. Though many of them were in favor of blowing off the Cygnus Knights, Claudine asked them to remember Vita, as well as the knowledge that the Black Wings founder was a Commander. Elex reminded them that they had previously decided that the so-called founder didn't exist, but Claudine assured him that Orchid definitely existed, and that she had been proven to be a Commander based on the Resistance member's intel. She reminded them that the Black Mage was an evil Transcendent who had almost destroyed Maple World hundreds of years ago, and that various Heroes had made countless sacrifices, just to barely seal him away. She then told the others that there were reports that the Black Mage had returned.

Brighton asked whether it meant that Orchid was also working for the Black Mage, to which Claudine noted that it was highly likely, as the Black Wings had taken over Edelstein and conducted cruel human experiments to create something, which made her wonder whether the Black Mage might rule Maple World once again. Brighton commented that it sounded like Claudine believed that they should join the alliance. Claudine told him that it was a difficult decision, though she added that if the Black Mage was involved, they needed all the help that they could get. Elex asked whether they could trust Cygnus, while Belle wondered whether victory was truly impossible through their own strength. Claudine admitted that the odds were against them and added that though she didn't fully trust the Cygnus Knights, she didn't want another tragedy like Vita's to befall them again. At Claudine's words, Belle recalled that Ferdi had long since been saying that the Resistance ought to join forces with the Cygnus Knights. She then took Claudine's side and asked the others whether they hated the Cygnus Knights so much that they couldn't look past their anger to fight the Black Mage. Elex agreed that though he didn't like the Knights, they needed to defeat the Black Wings. Checky added that they ought to give the Knights another chance. Brighton begrudgingly agreed, and with a unanimous vote, they agreed to attend the conference. Claudine then asked the Resistance member to deliver their response to Ereve. Cygnus greeted them in earnest and told them that she was looking forward to their attendance.

After receiving unanimous confirmations, the First Continental Conference took place, and the Maple Alliance was officially created.

Poison Gas Generator

Note: This section only takes place if the player is a Mechanic.

In Edelstein, Headmaster Ferdi summoned the Resistance member back to the Secret Plaza for an emergency meeting. There, Claudine informed them that Checky had gone missing while completing a mission, explaining that he had gone to investigate rumors of a new weapon that Gelimer was creating for the Black Wings. Claudine asked them to rescue Checky and gave them a return scroll to the Secret Plaza so that they could quickly escape. The Resistance member disguised themselves as a Black Wings member in order to gain access to the Verne Mine and make their way to Gelimer's laboratory, where they followed Checky's signal to a secret prison where he was being held. Checky explained that he had discovered that the secret weapon was a Poison Gas Generator, but when he had tried to destroy it, the poison gas had overwhelmed him, leading to his capture. At Checky's behest, the Resistance member managed to destroy the weapon and used the return scroll in order to transport themselves and Checky back to the Secret Plaza. Some time later, Checky told them that he had been impressed by their strength. Believing that they were strong enough to handle it, Checky taught them the full extent of his combat knowledge.

Black Heaven

During the Alliance operation to destroy Black Heaven, Checky was tasked with infiltrating Black Heaven through its blind spot with the Ace of the Alliance, Belle, and Brighton. As the Black Wings began invading the Lumiere, the Alliance member went to the top deck, where they rendezvoused with Belle, Brighton, and Checky for their mission. Upon arriving at their vehicles, however, they found that the Black Wings had destroyed them. Checky asked them to bring him Dented Steel Plates, Junky Bolts, and High-Efficiency Fuel from the androids in order to make the necessary repairs, as well as to make a few upgrades. The four then flew through the enemy combatants and managed to arrive at the landing point on Black Heaven. Just then, Gelimer's voice rang out to let them know that he had been expecting them. Belle, Brighton, and Checky suddenly crashed into the shields around Black Heaven, immobilizing them in place, just as several cannons shot them down. However, Pilot Irvin managed to save the trio, who used their airships to destroy Black Heaven's cannons when Claudine and the Alliance member were besieged by the enemy's firepower.

Arcane River Expedition

During the Alliance's preparations for the battle of Tenebris, Checky oversaw the construction of the Alliance airfleet. As the construction reached its end, Checky noted that things had gone faster than usual thanks to the combined efforts of everyone in Maple World, as well as Edelstein for sending the schematics for the airships in the fleet. Just then, Grendel the Really Old arrived and greeted Checky, noting that the airships were nearly complete. Checky replied that he had also heard that the enchantment of the Rue Ore was also nearly complete, and that the expedition into the Arcane River could soon begin. He added that such a mission had never before happened in the history of Maple World, and that they would soon be able to put an end to the Black Mage once and for all. However, Grendel noted that it wouldn't be easy, to which Checky asked Grendel whether he was afraid. Grendel replied that it wasn't what he had meant before looking up at the immense airship looming in the distance, wondering whether that was the White Spear. Checky confirmed that it was indeed, and that it was the flagship which Empress Cygnus would be sailing upon. He added that it wasn't just pretty on the outside, as its sturdy and powerful construction meant that it would certainly be able to deal damage to the Black Mage. After a pause, however, Grendel told Checky that it wouldn't happen, explaining that though the White Spear may be able to help them get near the Black Mage, it wouldn't be what would pierce through him. At Checky's confusion, Grendel ominously explained that defeating the Black Mage was a destiny that was already in someone else's hands.

Tenebris

As the Alliance prepared to launch the airfleet, Neinheart met with Claudine and the other Resistance leaders, who asked whether the time to embark had arrived. Neinheart confirmed her suspicions and gave her an emblem, to which she noted that they were all once again setting off into battle together for the Alliance. She added that though Edelstein had been liberated, a dark curtain still covered the world, and that their freedom was not yet complete as long as the Black Mage still lived. She then told Neinheart that though they had once been enemies, they were now part of the same Alliance, which had overcome many hardships together. Brighton then noted that an expedition that transcended dimensions was quite exciting and asked Belle whether she agreed. Belle reminded him that they weren't going to a picnic and told him to be more serious, to which Brighton replied that being lax was better than quaking in their boots. Neinheart laughed and noted that they were still the same, jokingly likening them to a pair of cockroaches. Belle quickly grew furious, while Brighton laughed awkwardly, with Checky attempting to calm Belle down. Neinheart then assured her that he was joking before asking the Resistance leaders to take care during the battle.

At Moonbridge, the Alliance discovered that the Erda monsters were being drawn to strong energy, which was likely why they were swarming around the cannon. In order to handle the threat, Neinheart proposed scattering the fleet and having each ship generate enough power to draw the monsters towards them, thereby clearing a path for the White Spear's cannon to pierce through the fog. Claudine decided to lead the charge, claiming that disruption and baiting were the Resistance's specialty. With the Nova taking the rear, Neinheart asked the Adversary to protect the Resistance ships as they drew in the monsters. The Adversary met with the Resistance leaders, who explained that Checky was planning to set off detonations to draw in the enemy. Together, they worked to set off the charges and finish off the drawing throng of monsters.

During the final assault of the White Spear to reach the Black Mage, Checky accompanied the greatest warriors of the Alliance to the Temple of Darkness. There, the Adversary and their allies confronted the Black Mage, who addressed the Alliance from the Throne of Darkness and declared that their path had always been preordained, and that they were only quickening their pace to its end. Claudine told the Black Mage that the Resistance finally stood before him, and that the people of Edelstein, who had once been oppressed, had found freedom at last. She declared that they would not allow that freedom, which had been born of countless sacrifices, to disappear in vain. Xenon agreed and noted that he still remembered his friends and brothers who had died, declaring that he would take the Black Mage down and put an end to that vicious cycle. Elex added that they needed to put an end to sacrifice for their generation, while Checky noted that they needed to create a future where their children could live happily. Brighton vowed that he would protect everyone, to which Belle added that they would deal a great blow to the Black Mage.

Aftermath

At the Secret Plaza, Claudine gave a speech to the entire Resistance, reminding them of everything that they had accomplished, from driving out the Black Wings to rebuilding the Edelstein Council. Declaring that true freedom had come at last, Claudine then presented the Resistance member, introducing them as one of the Resistance's greatest heroes.[4] After the assembly clapped for the Resistance member, Claudine told everyone that it was time to return to the city in order to celebrate, though the Resistance member and their job instructor stayed behind to talk for a moment.[5] At the town square, all the people of Edelstein cheered as fireworks lit the sky over a free Edelstein. As they all celebrated, Brighton turned to Belle and noted that the invincible M-Forcers had finally achieved victory, alluding back to when they would play M-Forcers as children. He then added that he had never thought that he would have survived long enough to celebrate their victory with her. Belle noted that when she looked back, they had all done some dangerous and often reckless things. Elsewhere, Elex and Checky wondered what Belle and Brighton were whispering about, with Checky laughing and asking whether they should whisper about something as well, causing Elex to glare at him.

Mission to Cernium

During the Alliance expedition to Cernium, Checky was chosen as a member of the Glory Guard alongside the Adversary, Edea, and Hawkeye. After they arrived at the outskirts of Cernium, Checky marveled at their surroundings and noted that Grandis was a nice place. Edea agreed and added that she had never been to Western Grandis before. She explained that though many people often referred to the continent and islands collectively as Grandis, the name actually referred to the continent on which they now stood. She added that it was called a continent because, like Maple World, it was home to many different races and nations, likening the continent of Grandis to Ossyria. Checky was surprised at Edea's words and asked whether Savage Terminal, Verdel, Pantheon, and Heliseum were also part of the continent of Grandis. Edea replied that Verdel wasn't confirmed to be part of the continent, and that it was likely the desolate moon that floated in the sky. However, she added that Pantheon was an island close to the mainland, and that the others were part of Eastern Grandis. She then explained that the High Flora had been spreading their influence across Central Grandis, though they were now pushing towards the east and west as well.

After facing the Ebonstar soldiers, Checky and Hawkeye began exploring the city. Alongside the Adversary, Checky noticed the Flame Priests creating explosions. He excitedly joined in and used his gun to create a massive explosion that left the Flame Priests awestruck. However, the explosion created Fire Spirits that fled to the top of the ramparts, and so the boy asked the Adversary to help defeat them. After taking care of the monsters, the Adversary met with Checky, who apologized for accidentally creating the Fire Spirits. The Adversary asked if he had seen Seren, to which Checky replied that she had been heading up the eastern ramparts. They told him about the Dawn Priests' request to ask the Flame Priests to quiet down, to which Checky explained that the Flame Priests had their own grievances. However, as it was a centuries-old disagreement, he doubted that they could solve it in a day. The Adversary was intrigued to know that the feud had spanned centuries, to which Checky explained that Cernium was a holy land to several faiths, all of whom had been fighting over the city for a long time, even after Mitra's Order had taken over, until Carlisle's father had finally decreed that all Orders would share the land equally, thus bringing about peace.

When Ebonstar began their attack on Cernium, Checky was briefly knocked out in the explosion created to destroy the city gates. After Hawkeye checked on him, Checky told Hawkeye that it was a relief that they had managed to stop the enemy, but Hawkeye explained that they had merely defeated the first wave, pointing to a much larger force approaching. At the eastern gates, the Adversary found a black Ebonstar emblem that Roland had dropped before realizing that Flora soldiers had breached the city gate. Checky and Hawkeye arrived with reinforcements, but Seren noted that there was no end to their numbers. Nevertheless, the Glory Guard and Cernium's knights managed to repel the enemy invasion, temporarily saving the city until the High Flora army closed in. Soon after, Seren and the Glory Guard was chosen to rescue the Chosen One, who was being held in the Flora encampment. The Glory Guard was awestruck at how immense the encampment was, with Checky asking if there were really that many High Flora soldiers. Edea explained that most of the Flora army was composed of common mercenaries, with only officers and above being High Flora. When Seren went ahead, Checky asked Edea why she hadn't stopped Seren if she knew that it was a trap, to which she replied that Seren already knew it as well, which was why she had insisted on continuing alone.

Soon after, they discovered that the Chosen One - Gilmore - had sided with the High Flora, and that he was planning to wipe out all non-believers in the city. After realizing that Seren wouldn't become the Chosen One, Edea terminated the Alliance's partnership with Cernium and prepared to return to Maple World. That night, the Glory Guard met outside the city gates, where Checky and Hawkeye were surprised to learn the reason behind Seren's refusal to become the Chosen One. Checky noted that by refusing to become the Chosen One, Seren was merely repeating a cycle of mistakes. Aaron the librarian then appeared and revealed that all of Cernium's faiths worshiped the same god, causing Checky to realize that Gilmore was wrong, as there were no non-believers in Cernium if all the different faiths ultimately worshipped Mitra. After Seren became the Chosen One, she used her powers to drive back the High Flora army. In the aftermath, however, Aaron revealed himself to be Gerand Darmoor and forced Mitra to possess Seren, with the resulting damage wounding Checky and the others, after which Darmoor shattered the Adversary's Seal Stone.

Repairs on Cosim

Some time after the mission to Karote, Checky and the other Resistance leaders met with the Adversary to discuss the repairs on Cosim. Checky asked Wendelline whether he was right in his assessment about Cosim. Wendelline confirmed that he was right, adding that Cosim needed a doctor, not a mechanic. She told the group that she had never seen anything like Cosim before, as his internal organs looked as though they had been created out of machinery and assembled together to function like human organs. However, she added that no human could possibly have survived the damage that he had sustained. Checky admitted that Resistance technology wasn't always top-of-the-line, adding that his repairs hadn't been effective. He explained that it was a miracle that Cosim was functioning at all, likening his injuries to a busted heart or crushed lungs in humans. Belle added that it also seemed that most of Cosim's injuries had been sustained in an explosion. She explained that though Cosim was supposedly a child of the Angler Company founder, she found it strange that the Company founder wouldn't take better care of his children. She noted that Cosim's damage was old, meaning that he should have had plenty of time to be repaired. Elex then suggested that it was possible that the explosion had made that impossible. Brighton agreed, adding that Cosim could have been damaged in the same explosion that had destroyed the Company headquarters.

  4. For Mechanics, a tearful Checky adamantly states that he isn't crying, and that he's just proud of them before asking why his mask is wet.
  5. For Mechanics, Checky stops the player and tells them to hang back for a bit, jokingly adding that the protagonist always arrives last. He then tells them that there's no need to look so nervous, noting he's not teaching a class before thanking them and adding that if it wasn't for them, Edelstein would never have been freed. The player replies that it was all thanks to him, and that they wouldn't have been able to do it if he hadn't been their teacher. Checky begins tearing up and tells the player that he'd done well to become a mechanic instructor before insisting once again that he's not crying, claiming that there's simply dust underneath his mask. He then tells them that they should head to the party.
