Smithing is one of the five Professions of MapleStory. Players who have learned Mining and wish to pursue Smithing can talk to Gere in Ardentmill to become a Blacksmith.

Blacksmiths use gems, plates, and Abrasives to craft armor over level 28 (with the exception of Work Gloves), Ammunition, and weapons, including weapons not normally dropped by enemies in the game. Once Blacksmiths reach Master Craftsman rank, they are able to craft Master Craftsman's Cubes / Hard Cubes and Magic Whetstones, which are consumed for the Weapon Tempering skill. Upon reaching Meister rank, Blacksmiths can craft Meister's Cubes / Solid Cubes and Meister weapons, and are able to use the Advanced Weapon Tempering skill.

Additionally, Blacksmiths can extract up to 30 Equipment items at once to receive Item Crystals or Philosopher's Stones, or fuse 2 of the same Equipment at once.

Weapon Tempering

• Type: Active
• Maximum Level: 1

Utilize your skill as a Smithing Craftsman to sharpen your equipped weapon with a Magic Whetstone. Not affected by buff duration bonuses. Cannot be used if 2 or more Alchemy potions that don't have a Meso, EXP, or Drop Rate Increase effect are active, or if the skills Advanced Weapon Tempering, Accessory Enhancement, or Advanced Accessory Enhancement are active.
Level	Consumes 1 Magic Whetstone, Duration: 40 min, Critical Damage: +#indieCD%, Buff vanishes when weapon and secondary weapon are unequipped or switched
1	Consumes 1 Magic Whetstone, Duration: 40 min, Critical Damage: +3%, Buff vanishes when weapon and secondary weapon are unequipped or switched

Advanced Weapon Tempering

• Type: Active
• Maximum Level: 1

Utilize your expertise as a Smithing Meister to maximize the sharpness of your equipped weapon with a Magic Whetstone. Not affected by buff duration bonuses. Cannot be used if 2 or more Alchemy potions that don't have a Meso, EXP, or Drop Rate Increase effect are active, or if the buffs Weapon Tempering, Accessory Enhancement, or Advanced Accessory Enhancement are active.
Level	Consumes 2 Magic Whetstones, Duration: 40 min, Critical Damage: +#indieCD%, Buff vanishes when weapon and secondary weapon are unequipped or switched
1	Consumes 2 Magic Whetstones, Duration: 40 min, Critical Damage: +5%, Buff vanishes when weapon and secondary weapon are unequipped or switched
