Sanctuary is an area in Grandis's Savage Terminal satellite / moon. It is a pocket dimension that serves as a safe haven for the Verdant Flora, having hidden here for centuries after the Flora Civil War. The Verdant Flora, having abandoned the High Flora's caste system, based their societal structure on function and purpose rather than power, with it consisting of Seekers, Guardians, and Engineers. In this society, Engineers serve as the equivalent of Commoners in the High Flora's caste system due to their lack of magic. The Crystal Academy is where Verdant Flora students learn about magic within crystals and creating pocket dimensions. Illium, an Engineer, is accepted into the Crystal Academy by the Guardian Agate after inadvertently showing dormant magical abilities, as she realizes Illium was destined to be the Chosen One that would wield the Elder Crystal and save the Verdant Flora. Illium characters start here upon creation, with their introductory questline centered around being accepted into the Crystal Academy and being trained as the future Chosen One; Illium characters cannot obtain EXP from monsters outside of Sanctuary until they complete the quest [Illium] One Look Back. However, the Sanctuary is destroyed after Darius, a Guardian who looks down upon Illium for his lack of magic, betrays the Verdant Flora and allows the Specter army to enter the Sanctuary. Agate sacrifices herself to allow Illium to escape, with Illium awakening as the Chosen One that helps the students of the Verdant Flora to escape the Sanctuary.

This region can only be accessed by Illium characters by foot via a hidden portal at Hedgehog Prickleyard 3 in Savage Terminal; it is only accessible during Illium's questline. It is divided into 4 sections: Village Outskirts, Crystal Forest, Radiant Forest, and Crystal Academy. Upon completing Illium's questline, the only map that remains accessible is the Hideout that exists within a pocket dimension.
