The Apostles are the most powerful leaders of Gerand Darmoor's army, carrying out the God-King's will to create a "true paradise" on Grandis.

Organization

Not much is known about the Apostles, although it is speculated that there are twelve members in its ranks. Much like the Commanders of the Black Mage, they aid Gerand Darmoor in seizing control of Grandis. Their headquarters are located in the Aboris Royal Palace on the planet Grandis. With the exception of Kaling, who is not part of the Central Army, the Knights of the Einherjar, or any other combatant organization under the High Flora, as well as Ressa and Ymir, of whom little is known, all the Apostles have an adjutant that serves as their second-in-command within the structure of their respective organizations. The Apostles exist outside the High Flora chain of command, allowing even non-Flora Apostles to issue commands to Flora soldiers, despite being members of a 'lower' race.

Havoc is a pure-blood demon from Tynerum who, through unknown means, came into service of Darmoor. He is known as the First Apostle and holds the title of Apostle of Lightning, referring to the devastating red lightning strikes he can unleash to strategically eliminate enemies on the battlefield. Unlike many demons, he does not have wings in his normal form, manifesting them only when he channels his power, which also turns his skin into the typical ashen hue of normal demons.

Limbo is a General of the Central Army who took part in the Flora Civil War and led the campaign on the Western Front as Brigadier General by wiping out the native population of Verdel. He is a Partial Specter, possessing the ability to change between his High Flora form and Specter form at will. He has great interest in the Abyssal Source and was greatly pleased to know that his former subordinate, Ark, survived the Specter ritual. In the present day, Limbo has become a General of the Central Army and led the invasion of Carcion, where he attempted to reach the Source by absorbing the power of the Ancient God Keira, though his attempts were foiled by the Adversary.

Ypsilon is the Lord of Erimos and a God of the High Flora. He also poses as a psychiatrist named Dr. Y who secretly leads an assassin company called the Drakas in Toolen City. Ypsilon has the ability to extract abstract concepts and absorb them into his body, as well as to move them from within himself into another object. With his powers, he has been seen to have extract memories, loyalty, life force, magic, Malice, and sustained damage. With his powers, he has extracted Malice, the power the Ancient God, Satiras, from Kain and Luska in order to weaponize it. He has also resurrected Luska from near-death by extracting the damage that would have led to her death.

Reina is the lord of the snowy mountains - one of the six High Flora territories in Grandis - and a God of the High Flora. Deeply devoted to her people, and with her people equally devoted to her, Reina killed her blood relative, the former lord of the snowy mountains, in a Syaman duel and took his place, taking on the position of lord and the castle rank of God. Under Darmoor, Reina seeks to join with the Central Army to conquer more territory and find a way to lead her subjects out of the cold and barren mountains. Reina uses overwhelming ice powers against her enemies, as well as a special crystal given to her by Darmoor, which contains divine power. In order to use that power, Reina uses the life force of her captured enemies. Following Kaling's death, Reina led the Battleship Arteria to attack Ereve, where she kidnapped Empress Cygnus and drained her unawakened Transcendent powers into a draining crystal for Darmoor.

Baldrix is the Captain of the Knights of the Einherjar and a close confidante of Gerand Darmoor. Centuries ago, Baldrix served Darmoor's father, the God-King of the High Flora, though his true loyalties lay solely with Prince Darmoor, who was the only one to acknowledge him amongst the ridicule of the other High Flora. After the coup to overthrow the God-King, Baldrix served under Darmoor at the end of the Flora Civil War and accepted the position of Captain, with Veronica serving as his Vice Captain. As one of Darmoor's most trusted confidantes, Baldrix was reborn under Darmoor after accepting the power of the gods through a draining crystal which destroyed his mortal body, turning him into an entity of blue flames. After the convergence of Maple World and Grandis, Baldrix undertook missions to capture the power of the Ancient Gods, leading the Knights of the Einherjar to Tallahart, where he assessed the Adversary's condition as a Vessel and allowed them to absorb the power of the gods within the city, revealing to them that Darmoor was intending to conduct a great culling to purge all those who were unworthy to exist in his true paradise.

Ressa is the messenger of Darmoor who conveys the God-King's will directly to the other Apostles. Although little information is known about him, Ressa is said to have been a great man who had risen up through the ranks into Darmoor's inner circle. During the Twilight Eve Festival, Ressa and Melange observed the Alliance's mission to revive Chronica, with their presence causing a disguised Will to immediately retreat. Later, during the Morning Star Banquet, Ressa summoned the Apostles and conveyed Darmoor's orders to carry out the great culling. As the banquet took place, Ressa seemingly saw through the Adversary's disguise, which the Ancient God Gob had claimed would fool anyone but a Transcendent. Ressa also came into conflict with Veronica, who taunted him for his status as a human, though Avril broke up the fight before it could escalate.

Ymir is a an Ancient God who serves as Darmoor's head researcher, leading the six traitorous elders of Grandis in conducting specialized research for Darmoor. Although little is known about her, Ymir appears to have extraordinary strength in illusion magic, which she combines with the mytocrystal magic of the Flora to conduct experiments pertaining to Darmoor's great culling. Ymir has a divine halo similar to that of Noctis, a goddess of illusions, and appears to have an alter ego called Malefic Star that dwells in a tower deep beneath the stormy seas of southern Grandis.

Kaling was a former researcher and a defective Vessel created in Odium. Kaling created the Four Perils during the war against the Ancient Gods in order to have them consume monsters and amass great power, which she would then fuse in order to create a powerful Adversary. After being sealed away, Kaling returned and joined Gerand Darmoor in order to gain his help in finishing her experiment. However, when Kaling failed to obtain Taotie from Hoyoung, Darmoor secretly gave up on her and planned for her to be killed for his own goals. He deliberately gave Kaling part of his Transcendent powers and sent her to Shangri-La, where Kaling and her three Perils were defeated by the Adversary, after which the World Heart, which they had obtained in Odium, drained Kaling and her Perils of their power, resulting in her death.

Possible Apostles

Magnus has directly received power from Darmoor and has been trusted enough to be sent as the first spy to Maple World, where he convinced the Black Mage of his loyalty in order to serve him before returning back to Darmoor. Furthermore, he appears to command a legion of Specters, which have the power to destroy Ancient Gods, possibly alluding to Magnus being at the forefront of Darmoor's true plans with the Specter army.

Melange appears to be highly intelligent and skilled, having been sent by Darmoor to infiltrate the advance party for the Arcane River expedition. He has an unnaturally high level of knowledge of the Transcendents, and he appears to have command over several unique spells, such as the one that forced the Adversary, Elwin, and Lily to obey his commands. He was also tasked with recovering Aeona and the Genesis Crux - which he called the "seed of the new world" - which appears to be part of Darmoor's true goals and something that only someone with enough skill and trustworthiness could achieve. During the Twilight Eve Festival, Melange was dispatched alongside Ressa to observe the ritual to summon Chronica, though the exact nature of their relationship remains unknown.

Given that two Apostles are also lords of their respective territories, it is possible that some of the remaining lords of the six High Flora territories are also Apostles.

History

Origins

Though it is unknown when the Apostles were formed, it is likely that they were formed at least as early as the end of the Flora Civil War when Gerand Darmoor became the Transcendent of Life and seized the Verdant Flora capital of Aboris.

Fall of High Mountain

Several years before the fusion of Maple World and Grandis, Gerand Darmoor sent Havoc to destroy High Mountain, the home of the Celestials who had settled there after the fall of the Ancient Gods. As the Celestials attempted to flee with the Holy Sword Azor, Chief Knight Gilmore attempted to buy time to escape by ordering his subordinates, Seren and Roland, to destroy the bridge, thus cutting them off from both Havoc and the rest of their company. As Roland and Gilmore began fighting over the command, Seren attempted to break the battle, reminding them that Havoc was closing in.

Just then, their swords began crackling with red lightning as Havoc found them. He unleashed a torrent of lightning, knocking Seren unconscious. When she awoke, she found that the bridge had been destroyed and realized that the other Celestials had been killed. She then took Azor, along with all swords of her fallen comrades, and trekked halfway across the planet to Cernium, where she became the Guardian of the Holy Sword. Unbeknownst to Seren, Gilmore soon allied with Havoc and volunteered for experiments that would transform him into a special Specter and thus become the Chosen One. However, Havoc was plainly aware that Gilmore looked down on the High Flora and planned to betray them as soon as he regained his powers as a Celestial, which had been lost when the Sun God Mitra disappeared.

The Drakas

As the lord of Erimos, Ypsilon ruled his city and used the High Flora army to raid Kain and Luska's village. He then enslaved them and forced them to join the Drakas, after which he used Luska as a puppet leader while posing as Dr. Y in order to research their power of Malice, as well as to steal the memories of the Drakas members, which he held as collateral in order to force them to work for him. By extracting the power of Malice, Dr. Y gave the Drakas members Malice Stones in order to gain an edge in battle.

Eventually, the Drakas overthrew Luska after realizing that they would never be given their memories back. Luska was severely wounded in the battle and Kain regained his memories, after which he left for Maple World. As extracting death itself would kill him, Dr. Y used his power to extract the damage that would have led to Luska's death, allowing him to resurrect her.

Attacking Vulpes

Shortly before the expedition to the Arcane River, an unknown Apostle - speculated to be Reina - was commanded to flood Fox Valley on Vulpes, thus wiping out the Pointy-Ear Fox Anima living in the nearby village. The Apostle blocked the vision of Sino the Fox God, the protector of the Fox Anima, forcing her into an unnatural slumber before creating a devastating storm that began flooding the land. However, thanks to the actions of an Anima child named Maru and a passing traveler, Sino was awoken and used her powers to immediately stop the storm. She then discovered the sigil of the Apostle's crystal, which contained divine power, and decided to speak with the elders in Shangri-La about what had happened.

Battle of Cernium

Soon after, Gerand Darmoor, who had been masquerading as a turncoat High Flora named Aaron in Cernium, gave orders to Havoc to attack the city before disappearing from Aboris completely while awaiting the arrival of the Adversary. Havoc took the Flora army and began working with Ebonstar, a group of heretics who sought to overthrow the city's religious order, to break open the city gates. The Adversary and the Glory Guard, who had been sent by the Alliance to aid Cernium, worked alongside the Order of Mitra to repel the invaders. Havoc was particularly cautious of the Adversary, who had enough power to destroy a Transcendent, and attempted to negotiate with Prince Carlisle to exchange Gilmore, the Chosen One, in exchange for the Adversary. However, Carlisle refused and instead sent the Glory Guard to infiltrate the High Flora encampment and recover Gilmore.

After learning that Gilmore had allied himself with Havoc, the people of Cernium worked together to defend the city from Havoc, who began to unleash his devastating red lightning. Before Gilmore could take the Holy Sword Azor, however, Seren struck him down and was revealed as the true Chosen One. Wielding the divine power of Azor, Seren took to the skies and began battling Havoc.

Seren easily managed to defeat him, causing him to crash from the sky. Without his lightning attacks, the knights of Cernium were able to turn the tides and successfully repel the High Flora army. Some time after the battle, Hawkeye and the Thunder Breakers began investigating to determine Havoc's status. Because they couldn't find his body, Hawkeye believed that Havoc was still alive.

Twilight Eve Festival

Shortly after the Angler Company mission to Karote, Ressa was dispatched alongside Melange to investigate the sudden resurgence in Chronica's power. In the remote village of Evernia, Ressa and Melange observed the townspeople's attempts to summon Chronica, with Ressa choosing not to get involved after seeing a young boy named Kael, who appeared to have an unknown tie to the Transcendent of Time.

Invasion of Odium

Soon after the mission to Karote, Kaling was sent to reinforce the Angler Company's invasion of Odium, where she discovered that Hundun, the most powerful of the Four Perils, had been fused with the World Heart and was being used as the power source for the laboratory. She then got into a fight with Laha Angler, who claimed that the Angler Company had been promised anything to do with the Adversary research, which directly conflicted with Kaling's claim to the Four Perils.

During their battle, the Adversary was given the World Heart by Hundun, who perished soon after it left his body. Tai Yu then took the Adversary to Shangri-La. The Angler Father then killed Laha in order to appease Kaling and maintain his relationship with Darmoor and his Apostles, after which Kaling vowed to reclaim the World Heart and finish her research.

Invasion of Shangri-La

Following the invasion of Odium, Darmoor gave part of his Transcendent powers to Kaling and revived a deceased Hundun. With the help of several elders who had sided with Darmoor, Kaling broke into Shangri-La and unleashed her Perils. The Adversary then fought Kaling, who fused with Hundun, Qiongqi, and Taowu. After they defeated Kaling, the World Heart reacted to the Transcendent powers inside Kaling and drained her of her monsters and her power, resulting in her death. Meanwhile, the traitorous elders - after kidnapping Baekyeon and Ara - regrouped with Darmoor and came to serve the Apostle Ymir, who conducted an experiment on Baekyeon to assess the efficacy of her solution for conducting Darmoor's great culling.

Raids on Maple World and Grandis

During the Angler Company's invasion of Odium and Kaling's invasion of Shangri-La, Darmoor began his plan to take the power of the Ancient Gods and the Transcendents, ordering his Apostles to move out of the shadows and target the awakening gods across Maple World and Grandis. Commanding the Battleship Arteria, Reina led the High Flora army to invade Maple World. With the Alliance spread thin to defend against the unexpected attack, Reina sieged Ereve with Arteria, whose powerful lasers destroyed Ereve's protective shield. After the Adversary and their allies returned back to Maple World, they began facing Reina's forces in order to defend Ereve. After drawing the Alliance into one spot, Reina kidnapped Cygnus and brought her aboard Arteria, where she began using a draining crystal to take Cygnus's Transcendent powers. The Alliance mounted a rescue party and infiltrated Arteria, where the Adversary fought against Reina. Though Reina struggled against the Adversary, she ultimately managed to defeat them, though Cygnus sacrificed herself in order to save their life. Following the incident, Reina - who had lost the captured prisoners that she used to channel the crystal's power - used her own life force to escape. Having accomplished her mission, Reina led the High Flora army back to Grandis, with Cygnus remaining in a coma after barely surviving, leaving the Alliance without a leader.

Soon after, Limbo led a fleet of battleships to Carcion, where the High Flora worked with several traitorous elders of Grandis to seize control of the area with the Specter army. There, Limbo attempted to take the power of the Ancient God Keira, while the elders began conducting Adversary and Specter experiments with the Anima of Carcion. Though Limbo managed to absorb Keira's power into himself and recreate a space deep within the Abyssal Source, he was defeated by the Adversary and the World Heart. Following this, Havoc - after his disappearance in Cernium - arrived to save Limbo on Darmoor's orders, using a draining crystal to absorb Keira's powers. With most of the gods having been targeted by the Apostles, Baldrix led the Knights of the Einherjar to Tallahart in order to take the power within the Grave of the Gods, though after the Adversary arrived to stop them, he allowed them to claim the power of the gods to help restore the World Heart, after which Darmoor began the next phase of his plan to conduct a great culling of living things, purging all those but those he deemed to be "noble lives". In order to do so, Darmoor ordered Ressa to gather all available Apostles to the Morning Star Banquet, where Ressa delivered Darmoor's instructions to the Apostles regarding their next mission.
