Episode 1
| This article contains information no longer in-game, and are thus historical records of MapleStory. |
Episode 1 was a GlobalMS-original questline to optimize leveling for players achieving their 1st and 2nd Job Advancements. Players could talk to the respective statue of the class they wanted to advance to first, teleporting them to the appropriate 1st Job Instructor. Afterward, players could complete a questline culminating in entering a Demon's Doorway to defeat one of five demons plaguing Victoria Island based on their class: Warriors would defeat Andras; Magicians would defeat Marbas; Bowmen would defeat Amdusias; Thieves would defeat Valefor; and Pirates would defeat Crocell, with each of these rewarding a job-specific hat based on the demon in question. Afterward, a second questline was available to defeat the leader of these demons, Astaroth, which could be fought in a party of 3 players of any class.
Initially, this questline was only open to Explorers up to Level 30, but it was later expanded to include all classes up to Level 40. After the Big Bang Update, most of the questlines were removed, with only the quests to hunt the demons for the job-specific hats, and the quest to fight Astaroth, remaining. Eventually, the level restriction was removed, and the party size was reduced to 1.
It was in GlobalMS, MapleSEA, ChinaMS, and TaiwanMS, but it was eventually removed from all servers.

Trivia
- The bosses Andras, Marbas, Amdusias, Valefor, Crocell, and Astaroth are derived from the Ars Goetia, the first of 17 sections in the 17th-century grimoire The Lesser Key of Solomon, a compilation of literature inspired by the Key of Solomon. The Ars Goetia mentions 72 demons, 6 of which were used for this questline.
- The Battle Square version of PVP contained Level 130 Equipment that was also named after demons from the Ars Goetia: Agares for Warriors; Eligos for Magicians; Ipos for Bowmen; Halphas for Thieves; and Vepar for Pirates.
- Upon release, the Pirate questline had an item called Dirty Treasure Map which could not be discarded, even after completing the questline. This was later fixed by allowing players to give the map to the NPC Jack in the Nautilus.
- In ChinaMS, a separate NPC was used for this named Elderly Man.
