Steam Community Market
| This article contains information on content / features that were removed before being fully completed, thus serving as a historical record of MapleStory. |
The Steam Community Market is a dedicated marketplace within the Steam platform, where players can trade items using their Steam Wallet. During its beta stage availability in MapleStory, players in both Interactive / Non-Reboot Worlds and Heroic / Reboot Worlds were able to connect their Steam account and access their Steam Inventory. Players could then exchange items between their in-game inventory and Steam Inventory by talking to the NPC Oswell at the Free Market. Before listing an item on the Steam Community Market, a player had to buy Oswell's Scissors of Karma from the Cash Shop and use it on the desired item. Once the player moved the item to their Steam Inventory, the player was able to sell it on the Steam Community Market and receive funds into their Steam Wallet directly. Other players who purchased the item could receive it, regardless of world or region.
It was available in GlobalMS as of the v.258 Patch on March 19, 2025, and could be accessed until May 15, 2025. With this change, Oswell’s Scissors of Karma was no longer usable and items could no longer be register in their Steam Inventory (with refunds distributed accordingly). As of the v.262 Patch on August 27, 2025, the Steam Community Market integration was shut down entirely.

Trivia
- Oswell is likely a parody of Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of the video game company Valve Corporation (and by extension Steam).
