Shanghai Wai-Tan was the original version of The Far East's Shanghai region, as part of ChinaMS's World Tour and based on the Bund in Shanghai of China. The area was accessible via Spinel in various towns. It featured weaker versions of the farm animals found in the Shanghai Yu Garden area. In addition, ChinaMS and TaiwanMS had a variant of Player vs. Player (PvP) where two players would compete against each other to finish various missions, such as killing monsters faster or completing a jump quest faster. Most of the monsters were stronger variants of common Maple World monsters, with a few exclusive monsters present as well (though the monsters did not have proper names).

It was in all servers of the game except GlobalMS. In 2015, ChinaMS revamped its World Tour region into the current version of The Far East, turning Shanghai into a night-themed setting and adding ghost and jiangshi mobs, in addition to stronger versions of the farm animals. This version has replaced Shanghai Wai-Tan in ChinaMS, MapleSEA, and JapanMS, while also being added to GlobalMS.
