Dark Knight is an Explorer Warrior. Their second job is Spearman, their third job is Berserker, and their fourth job is Dark Knight. Upon completing the 2nd Job Advancement at Level 30, an Explorer Warrior can choose to become a Spearman.

Trivia

• Until the RED Update, Dark Knight's 3rd job was called Dragon Knight, and it had many dragon-like skills and aesthetics. It is the only Explorer class to receive a name change for one of its sub-jobs.
  • While the reasons remain unknown, the name might've changed to prevent confusion with Kaiser, which is also a dragon-themed class.
• The official artworks of 2012 and MapleStory M appears to use the level 90 armor set (specifically, the currently-unobtainable Blue Commodore, Blue Commodore Pants and a blueish-colored version of the War Greave) and the level 100 Polearm Zedbug. The current official artwork (post-Destiny) appears to use a darker variant of the aforementioned armor pieces, alongside an unique weapon that does not exist ingame, but looks like a combination of Zedbug and Briser/Timeless Spear.
• Some aspects of this class are based upon Norse mythology and probably on popular Anime.
  • Gungnir was the mythical spear of the god Odin, head of the Norse gods.
  • Berserkers were Norse warriors which were dedicated to serve Odin and were said to have fought in a trance-like fury.
    • A pre-RED 4th job skill was also named "Berserk".
  • A 5th job skill, Spear of Darkness, is probably based upon Gáe Bolg from Fate: Stay Night anime. In real life, Gáe Bulg is a mythical spear from the Irish mythology with a very similar backstory to the one of Gungnir.
• The signature summon, Evil Eye, is based upon the Beholder, the one-eyed monster from Dungeons and Dragons. In GMS, this skill's name was changed from Beholder to Evil Eye during RED patch, most likely to avoid copyright issues with TSR, Inc., the publisher of DnD. However it still retains its name in most overseas versions including KMS.
• If another Explorer in the same world has not advanced to 4th job yet, completing additional quests is required to advance to 3rd and 4th jobs.
