V Matrix System

V Matrix is a system for characters who have advanced to their 5th Job Advancement, making use of Nodes (known as Cores in non-GMS servers) to allow them to obtain new skills, enhance specific skills, or raise the power of those skills through Node enhancements.[1]

System

Every job in the game will receive the V Matrix system upon advancing to 5th Job. This system will allow the player to customize their skills so that the player can choose what skills to work on. Previously, the player would start with 12 slots at Level 200, and gain an additional slot every 5 levels or 2 additional slots every 10 levels until Level 260. Beginning in the Milestone Update, the player starts with 12 slots at Level 200, and has a maximum of 30 slots at Level 260. Up to 500 skills can be stored at a time within the UI.

Each slot will be taken up by one of the following types of Nodes:

  • Skill Node: Grants a special skill for all jobs, or certain groups of jobs. This skill can reach up to Level 25 without Matrix Points.
  • Boost Node: Grants a node that boosts the final damage for 3 skills of a job by varying amounts based on the job and skill (meaning the skills will only belong to 1 job). These can reach up to Level 25 on a single node without Matrix Points, but can be combined with another Boost Node to reach up to Level 50. This is possible by placing a set of 3 skills twice in the V Matrix without overlapping their primary skills. The primary skill is on the bottom left of the Boost Node icon, and is listed first in the skill description.
    • On top of final damage, these give additional boosts at Level 20 and Level 40. Most Boost Nodes give either Mob Count +1, +5% Critical Rate, or +10% Damage against normal monsters at Level 20, and +20% Ignored Enemy Defense at Level 40.
    • A trinode is a set of 3 Boost Nodes.
  • Special Node: Grants a special buff after achieving certain conditions (such as attacking a certain number of times or using a Rune). These nodes only last 7 days (168 hours / 1 week) and can be extended for 30 days using Node Shards.

For Boost Nodes, it is recommended to obtain trinodes for skills that are specifically used for damage before leveling them up. For Skill Nodes, it is recommended to level them using Node Shards and Experience Nodestones. For Special Nodes, it costs less Node Shards to craft a new Special Node each week compared to extending.

You can obtain nodes by opening Nodestones, which are obtained from monsters in Arcane River onwards (tradable), or from events (untradeable). If the limit of 500 nodes is reached, existing nodes must be combined or disassembled before more Nodestones can be opened. The chance of obtaining each type of node are as follows based on TMS rates: https://tw.beanfun.com/beanfuncommon/EventAD_Mobile/EventAD.aspx?EventADID=9556

  • Skill Node: 19.05% (4 in 21)
  • Boost Node: 76.19% (16 in 21)
  • Special Node: 4.76% (1 in 21)

Among Skill Nodes, there is a slightly higher chance of obtaining either of the 4 job specific skills compared to other skills.

  • Job Specific Skill: 26.875%
  • Shared Skill (those your current job can use): 73.125%

Some Nodestones only open specific skills:

Enhancing Nodes

Any Skill Node or Boost Node can be enhanced up to Level 25 in a single node. To enhance a Skill Node, the player must obtain an identical node to the skill the player want to enhance; for example, for Howling Gale, the player must have a Howling Gale node. To enhance a Boost Node, the top skill on the trio must be identical to one that the player want to use to enhance the skill (for example, if the player has a node with Song of Heaven, Trifling Wind III, and Storm Bringer (in order), the player can use any node that has Song of Heaven as the top skill to enhance it.)

To enhance a node, the player can open the V Matrix UI and right click the desired node to enhance it. The player can obtain Nodestones from any monster in the Arcane River and Western Grandis regions, as well as from other players or in special events.

Disassembling and Crafting Nodes

Nodes can be crafted based on their needs (mostly for enhancing), as well as disassembled if not needed. To disassemble a node, right click a node in the V Matrix UI. The player will receive Node Shards based on the type of node. With these shards, the player can craft a node of their choice, or a Nodestone for 35 shards. The amounts are as follows:

  • Boost Node: 10 Node Shards (Disassemble) / 70 Node Shards (Craft 1 top skill) / 500 Node Shards (Craft 3 specific skills)
  • Skill Node: 40 Node Shards (Disassemble) / 140 Node Shards (Craft)
  • Special Node: 50 Node Shards (D) / 250 Node Shards (C) / up to 864 Node Shards (extend up to 30 days)

The Boost Node the player crafts will be based on the top skill that the player is trying to upgrade. Note that the Special Node will also last 7 days.

Beginning in the Milestone Update, the player can craft customized boost nodes, where all 3 skills can be chosen, for 500 node shards.

Matrix Points

For every level the player gains past 200, the player will obtain 1 Matrix Point until Level 220, then 2 Matrix Points until Level 260, which can be used to level a node slot of their choice by up to 5 additional levels. This will also allow the player to level each individual node up to Level 30 (giving a total of Level 60 between 2 Boost Nodes).

Reorganization

In MapleStory: Crown Update, opening Nodestones gives V Points. It costs 2 V Points to create a Nodestone that is transferable within world.

Nodestone Type V Points
Nodestone 1
Amazing Nodestone, Samsara Nodestone 2
Experience Nodestone 3
Mirror World Nodestone after obtaining True Arachnid Reflection 5
Mitra's Nodestone after obtaining Solar Crest 15

V Skills are categorized into Class-Specific Skill Nodes, Boost Nodes, Shared Skill Nodes, and Special Nodes.

Class-Specific Skill Nodes are the 4 skills specific to a job. Historically, they were released as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th V Skills. Some jobs have more skills branching off from these 4. Their maximum Level is 30, and they must be Level 25 to unlock their corresponding HEXA Boost Nodes.

Boost Nodes enhance 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and Hyper Skills that deal damage. The Final Damage Increase, Level 20 Effect, and Level 40 Effect stack with corresponding Hyper Passive Skills and HEXA Matrix enhancements when the specific skill is used. Their maximum Level is 60, and they must be Level 40 to unlock their corresponding HEXA Mastery Nodes.

Shared Skill Nodes are shared between all jobs, as well as jobs within the same class, faction, and other unconventional categories. Their maximum Level is 30.

A Special Node is activated when it is assigned to the special slot and its specific condition is met. This activation is indicated by a flash of light and a V icon above the player and within the Buff UI. Only one Special Node can be active at any time. It costs 14 V Points to unlock an expired Special Node for 168 hours (1 week). It costs up to 48 V Points (1.6 Points per day, rounded up), to extend the Node for up to 30 days.

It costs 10 million Mesos to reset V Point allocation. Up to 9,999 points can be stored. Since resetting recycles points, unlocking and extending Special Nodes is the only way to deplete them.

V Skill Level after Resetting Total V Points to Maximum Level
Class-Specific Skill Node 1 186
Boost Node 0 80
Shared Skill Nodes 0 193
True Arachnid Reflection, Solar Crest 1 186

Quest

Call of the Erdas

Once the player reaches Level 200, the Memory Keeper will contact the player to see if they are ready to attempt the 5th Job Advancement. He will allow the player to access The Erda Flow, which tells the player that the Black Mage is trying to harness the energy of the Erda.

Blessings of the Goddess

After returning to the Memory Keeper, he tells the player to receive the blessings of the goddesses of Maple World, Grandis, and Tynerum, accessible through Horizon Portals in certain maps. Each of the goddesses will give the player a test to see if they are worthy of passing, and rewards the player with an Arcane Stone. The tests are as follows:

Record of Power

Once the player completes the tests of each goddess, the player will have an Arcane Stone from each one. The Memory Keeper will grant the player the 5th Job Advancement, all 4 of their main Skill Nodes based on their job, and 5 regular Nodestone. The Memory Keeper will tell the player that they can fill up each Arcane Stone with 500,000,000 (500 million) EXP. The player can only fill up one stone at a time. For each stone the player fill, the player will be given a Goddess EXP Potion, granting the player an additional 500,000,000 EXP each as a reward for filling up each stone.

Finally, the Memory Keeper will teach the player about Arcane Power, which is needed to damage enemies in the area created by the Black Mage with the Erda's power, Arcane River. First, he will have the player defeat 1 Happy Erda without any Arcane Power (dealing 10% damage due to the lack of Arcane Power) to show the player how tough the enemies are. He will then lend the player a plain Arcane Symbol that cannot level up, but will be acceptable for the time being as the player help Kao out in the first area, Vanishing Journey.
